Rating: Summary: A highly enjoyable Read Review: Well never has a book caused such dissent amongst its readers :o) I thought this novel was exellent..the story grabbed me by the scruff of the neck and would not let go. I am not a fantasy fan and have only read Tolkein before of this genre. Maybe Goodkind does borrow from other works but i cannot comment on that. All i know is that it was good entertainment. If you want intellectual debate on society....don't read fantasy !! I have read a lot of reviews here and to be honest am sick of the pseudo-intellectual comments from people who won't even give their name. If seems that when Goodkind tries something new in the S&M vein he is slated..make your minds up ! I feel most people will enjoy this book a great deal. If however you are trying to prove your vast fantasy knowledge by highlighting similarities don't read it.You can just copy out a review like many people appeared to have done..i get the feeling plagarism is happening with the low scoring reviews. Don't forget what books are for....fun !!! Thanks
Rating: Summary: Finishing strong Review: Well, as I started this book, I was dissapointed. The plot was easy to read and it was overly melodramatic. Fortunately, there were still several hundred pages left, most of which I felt redeemed the less than spectacular start. The charcters were not flat. Each had certain characteristics that remained constant throughout the novel. The ramblings of Zed and the questions of Richard difined their characters and gave a certain spice to the novel. Although it was a fairly traditional fantasy setting, I felt it still had a uniqueness about it. After the world and characters were filled out, the novel took on a new meaning. Perhaps there could have been a better way to drag us into Terry Goodkind's fantasy world, but in the end, you get there.
Rating: Summary: The BEST book I have ever read, and I have read alotta books Review: I could not believe how good this book is! I found myself up late at night and ignoring all my teachers to find out what happens next. Terry Goodkind is by far the best author ever. All I can say is if you like reading fantasy, Read this book!Action-packed, strong, descriptive writing that keeps the excitement going no matter what's going on. This man has a gift, and knows how to use it.
Rating: Summary: REAL ATTENTION GRABBER!! Review: This book grabbed my attention and wouldn't let go! I have read a lot of fantasy works and I don't think that this book really copies anything. Terry Goodkind doesn't waste words like a lot of authors. This is one of the best books I've ever read. I like all the round characters. You can almost get to know them. This was a great book!
Rating: Summary: Riveting, an Epic modern fantasy with lots of spice. Review: 'Wizard's first rule was given to me as a present. I could not put it down. I sat on my bed for almost three days just reading. The excitement and thrill of the chase by the quad is as tangible as the pursuit of the Hobbits in 'Lord of the Rings' I cannot, of course compare the two writers, but Terry Goodkind is well on his way to becoming as well loved and widely read as Tolkien. I have read the last three books and I felt that they took me on a wild and exciting ride through this wonderful world that was created by Goodkind. I did, however, like the slightly perverse eroticism in the later books. 'Wizard's First Rule' can stand on it's own as a complete novel, in which everybody lives happily ever after. But the grand continuation is welcome because I felt disappointed when I had finished it that when I found out that there were more books I rushed to order them. In short. A fine quartet of books with high adventure and fun.
Rating: Summary: A book definitly worth reading Review: Wizard's First Rule is a good book. Although it doesn't really catch your attention that fast, it's wonderfully descriptive and exciting. I just couldn't put the book down! It's definitly a book worth reading if you're into fantasy.
Rating: Summary: Wizard's First Rule Review: Wizard's First Rule is a well-written book with great action scenes, good intrigue, and beautiful character development. Although the beginning of the book was slow-going, I couldn't put the book down afterwards. I would recommend this book, the first in the Sword of Truth series to anyone.
Rating: Summary: Down to Earth fantasy. Review: I have never read a book that held my attention like this one. The combination of fantasy and realism is unmatched by any other fantasy book, in my opinion. Being a writer myself, I find this book to be the beginning of a very good adventure, and an adventure in itself.
Rating: Summary: Throw out the rest, here is the best. Review: Break out the Thesaurus, Roget never had a word for this one. From the start, Goodkind delivers a fast paced and compelling story line that will have you calling in sick for a couple of days. Strong characters and unique perspectives will keep you coming back for more. If you are starving for fantasy fiction, feast on this!
Rating: Summary: Ellison "I was fifty pages in and I just found the story" Review: If you don't know the quote, it ends with "FIFTY PAGES IN AND YOU DIDN'T KNOW WHAT IT WAS ABOUT! You should be writing, you should be planting trees, at least do the world some favor" or pretty close to it. Goodkind writes like Ronald Reagan giving a unprepared speech, a moronic tumble of words with no concept of structured plot or definite rules, except for one wierd S&M bit that you don't quite get where it came from. Don't read it. Don't support trash like this. Educate others. Buy some Ellison, some Williams, some JORDAN FOR GODSAKE IF YOU WANT IT TO GO ON AND ON but don't support mind numbing pieces of trash like this. Look at it this way: if Lost In Space didn't insult your intelligence, this book is for you. If you are a member of Homo Sapiens (that's one of them thinkin' type for those few who aren't) it isn't.
