Rating: Summary: Frighteningly Bad Review: I'm not sure which is worse: this pathetic excuse for a novel, or the college English professor who wants to make it part of his school's curriculum. Rarely have I had the misfortune of stumbling upon such a poorly written, hopelessly unoriginal and strikingly un-interesting fantasy novel. Readers who like this novel should try Terry Brooks, too. Neither he nor Goodkind has any handle on how to write a decent novel.Thank goodness I don't have to go to that English professor's college. Yikes.
Rating: Summary: A great book that kept me on the edge of my seat Review: I thought this was an excelent book. It is the type of book that keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. I just coudn't put it down. It has been a long time since I have read a bood this good. I look forward to reading his other books. I am right now in the middle of "Stone of Tears", which is also a great book from this author
Rating: Summary: Absolutely superior! Review: I am the freshman English Professor at a college. I also teach a course in Fantasy/Science Fiction. A student recommended this novel to me. I read it...in one night- from app. 6pm to 5am. Yes, I stayed awake the entire night reading. I have been reading and teaching the past 30 years, and I have never encountered a better fantasy novel. Tolkien's works are pretty good (incredible for the time); Jordan's series is near perfect but a little verbose; Eddings's works are decent; Brooks is worthy of the title author. However, no single novel is as good. If I were to have my way, this masterpiece would be part of the freshman curriculum along with The Grapes of Wrath, Catcher in the Rye, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, etc. I am serious; Wizard's First Rule is on par with these outstanding pieces of literature. I do understand how one could not like it, but, to me, WFR is amazing. I recommend it with the strongest implorations. A must read for anyone who is literate.
Rating: Summary: Best fantasy novel ever!!!!!!!! Review: This is undeniably the best fantasy book I have ever read. Robert Jordan's series is better, I think, but no single book is better. I have read all of the books in the Sword of Truth. I have read all 800+ pages of WFR at least 4 times. This book offers basically nothing new. Seriously, Confessors are a neat and gars are pretty cool. I loved the Mord Sith. However, this book sticks to a traditional formula with many traditional facets. Yet, I have read it four times? YES, you see, it is the way he presents the story. (The story is good; I have read better.) I have never seen an author make the reader connect so to the characters. I feel that Richard is my lifelong friend; Kahlan, my older sister; Chase, my older brother. I have known and loved these people my entire life. I was so proud of Richard in the end; I felt so sorry for Kahlan, regarding the *thing* she could never obtain. I have this book in six languages, hardback, paperback, signed, anyway you can think of. I love this book. It is most definitely the BEST fantasy novel ever written.
Rating: Summary: Very Good Review: While the ending was a little bit too happy for me, and you just want to smack the Seeker for not figuring things out earlier in the story, this was a very worthwhile book and a great introduction to a series.
Rating: Summary: If The World Could Only Be So Perfect Review: This Book is absolutely Perfect. Goodkind Took My Imagination and put it to heavy, and exciting work. I've read Wizards First Rule 7x's. This book is going to be for my children and there children. I think everyone should read it. Stone of Tears almost as good as the First, but still excellent. Blood of the fold great plot, good fighting, overall quite excellent as well. Temple of the winds Is also an excellent read.My opinion about fantasy books changed with this book. The others books that I Have read (The Hobbit, Dragon Lance Chronicles And Legends) were to detailed and slow at getting to the point but Goodkind gets right into the plot. I recommend the entire series, And I applaud Terry Goodkind for the excellent Escape into my imagination... What About A movie?
Rating: Summary: The BEST BOOK EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Review: Wizard's First Rule is one of the, if not the, best books ever made. It is very long, but every page is addicting. Plus, you never know what's going to happen. Yes, some parts in this book is sick. And there's plenty of gore. Teenagers and up should get this book. Kids in elementary school may throw up a couple of times. I've read plenty of books (Every Narnia book, The Lord of the Rings, the hobbit, about 15 star wars books, and about 40 other books, and this one is the best book I've ever read. I can't wait to get the sequal. GET THIS BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: There is just one thing bugging me... Review: I thought fire was banned in the midlands. than how come Mother Confeser has four fire places and they are always fired up for her arrival to aydindril? Am I wrong about fire being banned? I remember Kahlan saying something about not being in front of a fire in a long time, and she was worried about michael banning it in Westland. Other than that it's a very good book
Rating: Summary: Amazing. There is no other book quite like this one! Review: This is one of the best books I have ever read. Excellent. One of the things which makes this book so good is the fact that it does not go by the stereotypical fighter/mage/cleric/...etc archetypes that a lot of fantacy dwells on. I love the magic and character types this book contains. Confessors, Seekers, even the wizards are unique! Also, never before has a book made me start paying close attention to every detail so that I might figure out the clues to answer the next small mystery. Though this book is long, it keeps you enthralled down to the last word. Even if this is the only book you get from the series, it is a must have for Fantacy readers!!
