Rating: Summary: You didn't read it??????????????? Review: Truly one of the most enjoyable and heart-wrenching novels I have ever read. If only HE would write the next book sooner!!
Rating: Summary: If you liked The Wheel of Time, you'll like this! Review: I admit that I'm no expert on the subject of literature but I know what I like and I like this. Although it is difficult after just finishing "Crown of Swords" to stop mentally making the comparisons between Jordan's world and Goodkind's, I still found the book enjoyable. I find though that you are left into the dark about much in Goodkinds world. Maybe it is only because this book doesn't have glossary in the back. Personnally I think that it is a great book. If you are looking for a exciting series to read, take peek at this one. And even though the book is said to be written in Jordan's shadow, it excells to hieghts that the Wheel of Time may never touch.
Rating: Summary: This is by far the best book i have ever read Review: i hail this book as the best book i have ever read and i am glad to have read it. i was swept away by the charactors within this book and emotionally moved by several of them. the plot was completly unpredictable and never failed to throw me a curve right when i was starting to guess at the next chapters events. Mr. Goodkind has writen an excelent book and i look forward to reading up on the fate of Richard and Khallen . just as a messure so all you other bookworms can know because of how intrigued by this book i was i read it in 5 days and failed 2 final exam's for it.
Rating: Summary: Best of the series. Review: I read the entire Sword of truth series, and Wizard's First Rule is easily the best. I loved Darken Rahl because he was such a great villan. Though I think Raistlin is a better evil wizard, Darken's twisted ways I found rather amusing. This was a great fantasy book, because it had everything I usually look for: 1)Romance: Richard and Kahlan 2)Action: If you think there si no action in this book, get your head checked. 3)Big scary fortress: People's Palace. I look for more than that, but these all played big factors in my decision. Read this, but, I'm sorry to say, don't trouble yourself with the rest of the series, unless you make this your Bible.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely horrible! Review: First off, the writing was so bad I could barely stumble through the prose. The plot was predictable, but worse than that, it was incredibly derivative. I couldn't find a single element in it that had not been used somewhere else, by a better writer, in a better fantasy series than this one. The violence was over-the-top, unnecessary, and gratuitous. The characters were both predictable and one-dimensional. I cannot think of a single positive thing to say about this book. Don't read it. PLEASE. For your own sake.
Rating: Summary: Light reading. Mediocre. Review: Original, it's not. Is there any popular fantasy story this guy HASN'T borrowed from? It's a fun read, kinda like a long John Grisham book: those pages keep turning, but there's no depth. NONE. I'm not a reader of highbrow literature, but I like a story to have interesting characterization, something resembling an original plot, etc. WIZARD'S FIRST RULE is an exercise in mediocrity. If you've read much fantasy, there won't be much of anything new to find here. (Also, the prose itself is nothing special; it seems stilted, even childish.) It's good if you want to pass the time on a quiet summer afternoon or three, but don't expect anything special.
Rating: Summary: One of the best fantasy books in years Review: Goodkind set himself up to join the ranks of Jordan and Tolkien with this thrilling debut. Great characters, exciting plot, and plenty of hard hitting action make this the best read in the fantasy market in years. Kudos, Terry!
Rating: Summary: Finally a fantasy series worthy to be called Tolkienlike Review: Though I am only 13 I have read many fantasy series and this is the only one that I think shares many qualities with Tolkiens best work. Goodkind's characters are mysterious, lovable, and hateable. Richard Cypher is the essence of good in this world while Darken Rahl is the demon that lives in everyones soul. As you read the book you grow and learn with the characters. This book is witty with superb effects that are used excellently by Goodkind. He brings a joy to his writing that makes you yearn for more. This book is riveting it will grab your attention right away and hold it throughout the book. I remember that when I first started the book I could literally not fall asleep until I finished it. In fact to make sure that I had grasped all the hidden meanings I read it twice and found it intrigueing. Goodkinds novel is nothing short of awe-inspiring!
Rating: Summary: A magnificent book, no less brilliant the second time around Review: I have just finished re-reading Wizards First Rule and found it to be just as enjoyable, perhaps more so, on a second reading. The intricasy of the plot and the realism of the characters draws you into the story as you cant help but want answers to all the questions posed at the beginning of the book. In answering these questions Terry Goodkind has created an entirely believable world with new sights and wonders at every turn. A great read for all, I can't wait to re-read the others in the series before the 5th book arrives.
Rating: Summary: This book was mediocre at best Review: I will not waste my time by delving into the inadequecies of this book compared to other current fantasy authors (ie. Fiest, Hawke, Weis). But, I simply must let it be known to the world of literature that, in my opinion, this book is mediocre at best. Stereotypical characters, constantly under or over developed details, little backstory, and pathetically written emotions were all common in this novel. About the only thing I believe Goodkind was sucessful with in this novel was the sense of fear instilled by the forces of evil into the reader's mind, but, this alone did not save the book from falling below par in the field of today's fantasy writings.
