Summary: Think of it this way...
Review: Read the reviews of this book. See the patterns of people who hate the book showing a far better grasp of english than those who like it. Unscientific? Yes. True? Definately. Relevant? Simply put... if your a moron then you will enjoy it. If the brain cells in your noggin do more than rattle around once in a while save yourself from something that will only cause you pain. And no, I have not read the book. I just know. If you have to ask how then read up you talking monkeys.

Summary: Good book but needs more sructure.
Review: One of the best books I've ever read. It has an excellent cast of characters, a wonderful setting, and magical mishaps with no end. My only complaint is that it lacked structure. One moment Richard is heading home with his magical box, the next he has been captured by an artist and tortured by a "Mord-Sith". Good author and, with a little time, can take his place with the likes of Jordan, Eddings, and Tolkien.

Summary: The Greatest Book in the Entire World!!!!!
Review: I have read the entire series of the Sword of Truth. This book will stay with you forever. After Terry Goodkind finishes with the Series, I will read them, all over again. You are missing out if you do not read this. Adventure, magic, love, recover, mytics, giants, demons and the Great, Darken Rahl.

Summary: Nothing original. Predictable story. Horrible characters.
Review: I read a lot of fantasy. Pretty much everything out there. For some reason, I held off on Wizard's First Rule (and the books that follow) for five years following it's first release. I should have trusted my instincts and just not read it.

The characters in the story are achingly one-dimensional. You have your large, dim-witted (yet brilliant when it serves the plot) hero whose father has been horribly murdered. The witchy woman who aches for him in every paragraph, yet cannot make him hers..because of..the magic. The spry old wizard. The finger-licking villain (he licks his dang fingertips at least once a page, ruining any effect the habit might have). The Gollum-esque human mutated into something else. Haven't we all heard this far too many times before?

The story, as well, is quite pathetic. The plot consists of the heroic team going to one location, finding out some stuff/getting help against the finger-lickin' good villain, then hearing of some other place/person/group of people who will help them - usually in the second to last or last page of the chapter. Sure enough, they go trotting off to the next location, perhaps encountering something nasty on the way.

I am even more stunned by how unrealistic the characters act. Richard, the hero, goes to his house to discover it's been destroyed - just like his father's! In fact, he makes out the dim shape of a man sitting, waiting for him, in his living room. Probably the same fellow who horribly whacked his old man. Does he *do anything* about it?! No! He and his new friend (The woman who aches for him so terribly...) have a nice night out in the woods, then go visit the powerful wizard who is (not really) in hiding. WHAT?! WHAAAAT?!

Save yourself. Read Donaldson. Read Brust. Read George Martin. Read anything but this.

Summary: Yuck!
Review: What can I say? This book is just simply bad. A twelve-year-old could have done the writing, but the violent and sexual themes are disturbingly adult. Who is this book written for? I got the idea Goodkind just pulled ideas out of a hat as he went along, the book has a very slapped together feel. How a piece of crap like this can sell so many copies is beyond me. If you want good fantasy try Fritz Leiber, Tad Williams, Guy Gavriel Kay, Barbara Hambly, even the Wheel of Time series (which is starting to fall apart itself). Throw this garbage in the trash.

Summary: The ultimate escapist fantasy. Never boring.
Review: I could care less about the style. People complain about it. I just don't get it. Who are they comparing it to? Tony Morrison? Jordan? Shakespeare. Come one. The simple fact is that Goodkind is one of the best storytellers I can remember. I've been reading for over fifteen years. What I want to know is how all of you define good style? Isn't telling a story extremely effectively stylish? I beginning to believe that anybody that whines about the grammar should try to do this themselves. Plus he probably just had a bad editor. Every author makes mistakes. Do you really think Shakespeare wrote one draft of Hamlet? I doubt it, if even he wrote it at all. Get over it and read something extremely dumbing and boring like Wheel of Time or Lord of the Rings. One of my top three favorite fantasies which the others are A game of Thrones and Thomas Covenent: the Unbeliever.

Summary: come on you guys its not that bad!!!!
Review: to thoes of you hated this book: look if you read the book then you have to like it i mean its a great book; if you didn't like it then you are just to down to earth for this type of reading. TG went out into the woods and came up with things to wirte about in his book everything was from nature. Take for exaple blood flys he got from black flys its just a way to show you that if you don't spend all your day in front of the Tv then you can write your own book, and if you happen to go take a walk in the woods ( i hope a bear eats you!)

Summary: Great Book...read this some intresting points
Review: I was reading over the many reviews below...and I discovered that most people enjoy the engrossing story line, the character build up, and the plot. While reading over all the bad reviews I found out that one person thinks the only thing good in the book is the grammar...while the review below it says the grammar is terrible! Whats up with that? Don't compare this book to the WOT series or anything else...just sit down and read it. Another commem thing I read about was this book being original and all the ideas came from other books in the genre. This book takes those ideas and expands on them...much like Star Wars did to Dune. I don't hear anyone complaining about that?

I also heard that the WOT series takes ideas from past cultures and uses those to make the series better. Of course they said GoodKind doesn't do this. But there are many little things you may not notice. He makes reference to Spainish countries. In Spain kids cannot wear long pants until they are 13 i believe.(may be wrong, somewhere between 12 and 16) In WFR Kahlan says only certain girls of higher class can have long hair. Therefore I think the arguement stated above means nothing. DOn't listen to those crappy reviews because if you compare this book to others you will hate it. It is commem for peoples' favorite to be the 1st book they read in the genre. People who read WOT say bad things since they cannot admit the improvements in this book. GO get it, be happy and read!

Please email if you feel differently...love to talk about the book!

Summary: A New Master of Fantasy
Review: In this first episode of his Sword of Truth series, Terry Goodkind establishes himself among the top flight of fantasy authors today. He spins a yarn so powerful it is impossible not to get caught up in the trials and tribulations of the characters. From the first scene to the last, it will grip you tight and not let go. A must read for any fantasy enthusiast.
