Summary: excellent
Review: This book was really good and had alot of graphical things in it. It was an excellent book if you like the more graphical side to things. I do.

Summary: Great story, amazing narrative. Best fantasy in ages.
Review: This is one novel that had been hooked from the start. Innocent happenings in the opening sequences ripple into amazing discoveries later, each artfully revealed at the best possible moment. Richard's slow evolution from a humble woods-guide to a historical keystone is captivating, and his tragic love for the unreachable Khalan Amnell make for a story that'll have you immersed for hours. Outstanding.

Summary: Falls short of even the low industry standard...
Review: Although this is not the worst pulp fantasy i have ever been subjected to, it is close. Goodkind's poorly realized, childish world-building is further accentuated by his one-dimensional, inane characters, terrible dialogue and half-baked plot line. Any redeeming qualities within the story were swept away in the flood of trite drivel that this waste of time consists of. Avoid at all costs, and try something imaginitive, like Tad Wiliams or George R.R. Martin.

Summary: Despite it's flaws, a really addicting read.
Review: Goodkind has that rare ability to be able to tell a story well. It doesn't matter so much what the story is about, just how it is told that makes Goodkind a popular author. Much like the way Stephen King can draw you into his books, Goodkind gives you that page-turning addiction when reading his books.

I thought the story in this book was not that original or innovative. It doesn't have the descriptive grandeur and intricacy of Gene Wolf's Book of the Sun books, but this lack of wild imagination doesn't matter because it's well told and very fun to read. It doesn't have the staying power of the Wolf's book or Ursula K. Leguin's Earthsee books, but it is sure of the most entertaining books I've read. A good way to pass the time. My only criticism is that this first book is a bit unwieldy and the story flow is bit rough. There are momemts in the storyline that get awkward and seem just thrown in. However I'm reading the second book in the series and it is more polished and even more addicting. Goodkind storytelling ability rises a few more notches in the second book.

Summary: I disliked the book in most ways, but it did have some good.
Review: When i first picked up this book, i was fairly excited - the plot line looked good, and the writing style exciting, but the more I read, the less i liked it. It took me more than 200 pages to get to the point where I didn't want to throw it down and walk away from it. The writing style was not smooth, there were sudden changes in the character that came out of nowhere with no character delvelopement, and, at times, the writing seemed amost childish. The plot did turn out quite well, and I am willing to give the author a break because it is one of his first books. The potential that the book had is the reason that I have gone on and read his other books. He has improved in his writing with them. I only wish that he had spent more time making this book worth the read.

Summary: best Goodkind ever.
Review: The story was very good in the fact that it WAS a fantisy book and not of this world. The traditions of the charicters really griped me like Kalian's. Her story realy kept the story alive in me.

Summary: YES, TRULLY A VERY FINE BOOK - THE BEST OF THE BEST
Review: This is the first (and probably the best... its hard to say for sure) book from Terry Goodkind's trully amazing series. I just loved this book soo much, its ain't funny!

I'm reading the series AGAIN (the the nth time!) and its still just as amazing. Goodkind manages to include all this *other stuff* most fantasy writers don't... he talks about pain, suffering, etc., which most writers don't like to describe. THis alone takes him to the next level and surpasses Jordan! I don't mind Jordan's series, but its too long and has WAY TOO MANY characters (thats the real killer for him... too many ppl!)

Goodkind just writes better and even involves other issues, like gov't and political views (thsi si coming from the 5th book) which remains still interesting for the reader. Besides Endings, ive never seen a fanasy writter involve political issues and keep the book still good! :_)

Lets all praise Terry GOodkind... thx

Summary: More than your average fantasy
Review: Reading other reviews, I would have to agree with a few who said that it seemed like just another ho-hum fantasy book - you know, "naive farm-type boy goes on an adventure out far from his home, realizing that there's a whole other dangerous world that he never knew about, and also finding out he's more important than he realized - usually finding out he's the MOST important person in the world." Well, this book didn't disappoint there. In fact, it was pretty disappointing at first, from a story-line standpoint. I thought things happened too fast at the beginning - very little development. It started to get interesting and then WHAM! Denna comes in. It was such a turnaround in my interest and in the story - both were completely unexpected. It made me hungry for the next books. Goodkind is a great storyteller - his characters are complex and interesting. I like that he has strong women characters, also. I also like the fact that he has complex mysteries that develop and resolve nicely. The only thing that I don't like about his books are the endings - they all are too good. Give us some cliffhangers! Otherwise, whole-hearted applause for THE SWORD OF TRUTH!

Summary: Poor character development, unbelievable interactions
Review: I found Richard Cypher's character unbelievable. The fact that he was written to have lived his life (up until the story) as a level headed, easy-going and likeable man makes it difficult to swallow such a profound change in personality taking place in such a short time. Also the interaction between characters shows errors of pace. Realistic adult interactions show that friendship and love develop over time. It seemed Richard and Kahlan were melting each other's hearts within several hours of meeting. This is the type of development and interaction that I would expect to see in a young readers' book. The storyline is actually decent, although his style is a little distracting; it does not flow smoothly.
