Rating: Summary: Mr. Goodkind is the man! Review: I believe mr. terry goodkind, a man with obvious potential, rose from the depths of talent to create an adventurous and enchanting novel that took me by surprise. his characters and the world around them are composed masterfully. almost each chapter has excitement to keep the reader in constant alertness from drowsing away. the outcome of the story brought wows and awes to my mind. in addition, fights in the book ran imaginary details so no drip of blood goes unnoticed- yeah baby. well, wizard's first rule was and still is a very good read so do not miss out.
Rating: Summary: Great read from beginning to end Review: All i look for is a good read..some of this reviews are way to critical..its hard to find a good book to dive into. this was certainly one of them. everybody needs to chill out and enjoy it instead of hammering it to death.
Rating: Summary: not unique but quite enthralling. Review: This book was the best book i have ever read. although long and an obvious star wars clone, it was amazingly well written and fantastic. i did not like the little yoda like creature, addie, but in later books, she becomes much more, so that makes it okay. all in all, a fantastic book.
Rating: Summary: awesome Review: i just finished reading this on a vacation and could not wait to get home to start the second, very well written, although appears large, moved much faster than i had expected for the size
Rating: Summary: Sub-Tolkein-esque sequel generator Review: I've had this book lying around for a while now, and only brought myself to read it recently. Perhaps I've a little premonition in me somewhere, 'cos it turned out that I was right to be wary. From the start I found the principal characters irritating, and this was not helped by the sheer predictability of the storyline. Well-written it may be, but Tolkein-esque is almost too gentle a word for the plot.I won't go into all the "spot the Tolkein reference" passages, but if I were Gollum, I would be phoning my lawyers. There were several nice ideas scattered about through the book, but I found myself constantly put-off by the whinging of the principals, and their interminable agonising over their actions. All this, coupled with an ending that just seemed to materialise out of the need for a trilogy, means that I won't be following this one up, I'm afraid.
Rating: Summary: WOW.. WHAT A BOOK! Review: I rarely find a book that keeps me up 10 hours straight reading at night (well, I haven't, except for "The Stone of Tears," book 2 in the series). This is definately worth the $6-8, and the 700 (or maybe 800)+ pages that you have to find the time to read. I think that this book is the BEST book I have EVER read, and I can't believe that he did such a good job on the sequel!
Rating: Summary: Compelling. Review: I have always been a strong advocate of epic fantasies and it's respective authors, but have rarely went outside the scope of Mr. Bob Salvatore and cohort Ed Greenwood. What can I say, I'm a sucker for Forgotten Realms fantasy. My mother had picked this book up at a Buck a Book store some time ago, and my first impulse was "This book's gonna suck hard, hardcover for $1!" My ignorance shrouded the true nature of this book however (being printed many years ago was rightful cause of that low pricing). After reading it, I must say that I am pleased with the content within those $1 walls, and now I wish I could find the sequels for that price =) I've always been a big fan of the rather redundant and repetitious main evil character, and Darken Rahl wasn't one to dissapoint. Even moreso I've been a fan of 'Godly Heroes', those main characters that fail to die when they should. Overall, I must say that this book was one of the best I've read in the fantasy genre. I just hope that in the sequel, the Keeper lives up to his reputation as the incarnation of malice Zedd and company have built him up to be. :)
Rating: Summary: A Great Book that Keeps the Reader Wanting More Review: Wizards First Rule was the start of a great series that is keeping me trying to find more books. I don't appreciate certain people trashing the novel. It deserves to be a national bestseller. Mr. Goodkind and Mr. Jordan are great writters. I applaud them for their efforts.
Rating: Summary: First Rule, First Review: Well I have just completed the book after reading a short story by Goodkind, which in itself lead me to this great book. I feel the detail and emotion put into the book only amplified the wonder and need to read it. You feel worried and sad for the hero, a Richard Cypher, woods guide turn world savior, as well as hopeful and in awe. There is a sense being there, feeling the action and living the adventure. As the book goes on and plots twist and a given foresight develops, you find yourself reading not only for the act itself but to see what comes next to fulfill the suspense of the story. Not only is there a serious plot that includes many favorites of the genre, such as a sword bearing hero, a wizard guide, mysterious foe, who is set to rule the world, and a variety of creatures, but Goodkind includes humor that catches the reader and a probe into the mind of the people. The book is great and a must read. I highly recommend it, and can't wait to read the next one.
Rating: Summary: A Great Book! Review: My dad gave me this book to read as a punishment. I read the whole thing in one weekend out of pure enjoyment. I recommend this book to anyone.
