Summary: Entertaining, though mind numbing
Review: I don't read a lot of fantasy (I read primarily SF), but almost everything in this book was familiar. I enjoyed reading it, but I have some complaints. First complaint: This is so similiar to Robert Jordan that one of them ought to be embarrassed (I didn't check copyright dates). The real complaint is out of nowhere, never before mentioned plot twists at the end of a novel. Several things in this book reminded me of Star Trek, where they make up an imaginary problem and an imaginary solution with no previous material to substantiate it or lead you to believe that it might be possible. A storyteller gets to make his own rules, but once you make them you have to follow them. Nothing could be less enjoyable than some of the solutions that were used. I felt cheated by them.

Summary: Wonderful, wonderful book
Review: The reason people read novels such as Wizard's First Rule is to be entertained. When I read books like this I am always happy to be sucked into a fantasy world, and am proud to see a very talented author who can pull off this immersive experience. For the reader from Austin who says that he/she is too good for this book; GO READ SOMETHING YOU LIKE. I am a college graduate from Yale, yet I don't consider myself 'too good' for this book. I also recommend (for those who aren't easily offended by good writing) the Dragonlance Chronicles and other Dragonlance books. Amazing, better than all other in my opinion.

Summary: Pathetic!
Review: I'll admit it, I only read 250 pages of this book. That's all I could stand. How can this book be compared to good SF/Fantasy writing? The characters were simple-minded fools, and the dialogue between them was excruciating. After reading the final 20 pages, I realized that the hero was betrayed by his jealous brother, the good wizard was his grandfather, his enemy was his father, and he's in love. How sweet. Sound like a B movie? No, B movies are over in 2 hours, this book drags on for over 800 pages! Don't waste your time.

Summary: Captured!
Review: I was never into books until I was 18. I started on Salvatore and I was hooked but afraid to try anyone new. A superior of mine gave me this book on my 19th b-day and I can't put it down. Since I've read other works from Eddings to Modesitt Jr to Jordan. Granted people say it's a fine line between Jordan and Goodkind, but from my experience it's all pretty much the same in any book, just diffrent chars and worlds. The startling introduction to subtractive and additive is as surprising as it is realistic. You can't have one without the other in anything! Love and hate, good and evil and so forth. I have all five books in hardcover and even if it breaks me I'll continue that precedence! I recommend this series to any sci fi reader among any others. The Mord-Sith totally caught me off guard! I would have never expected that! I know TG will continue his great work and I have no qualms about buying anything he writes! Even if he went to some cheesy Tarzan mode. BLEH!

Summary: "Excellent, Terry Goodkind's book is a hard one to put down!
Review: My husband got me into his books. We have read the whole series- up to Soul of the Fire -and I must say, we are always looking forward to his new releases. His imagination and expression are out of this world. Two thums up, way up for Terry!

Summary: Great- Goodkind has a way with Richard!
Review: This was a great read that kept me reading for hours on end. I just couldn't put it down! The in-depth style of Goodkind's writing sets a mood of great adventure and dread. The whole book was filled with indirect analogies to the real world. Through all the good, though, times arise when the vivid discriptions of the surrondings may bog down he story for those of you who want a quick read. So be forwarned: this book is NOT for the impatient reader.

Summary: A breath of fresh air to people with an active imagination
Review: Recommended this book by my Brother, I knew it would be something special and I was not disappointed. From the very beginning your are thrown into the action surrounding the lead character, Richard Cypher, a humble woodsman who finds himself involved in matters he has little or no knowledge of. Despite this he is the only person who has the ability to succeed in a perilous mission. Surrounded by superb characters of different talents, he slowly realises his own abilities and how to use them. This is an incredible book that twists and turns, keeping you enthralled and helping you imagination run wild. It caused me a few late nights (and one early morning!). Probably the best piece of advice my Brother has ever given me, I cannot wait to read the next instalment.

Summary: Blew me away! WHEW!
Review: I first bought the book out of curiosity. I've had others tell me about Terry Goodkind but I never paid it no heed...until that fateful day at the bookstore. And so there it is....the story of "Richard with the Temper" and of Confessor Kahlan pulled me into a fantasy world that's all on its own. I'm a loyal Eddings fan, but this.....this book made me a believer of Terry Goodkind. And here I thought the cover art was cool....but it is nothing compared to the world painted by words within.

Summary: Reads like a bad 'B' movie
Review: I have been accused of being 'elistist' because I said this book was an absolute waste of time. I admit it; I am too good for this book, and so is anyone on this earth who lives and breathes. We are all dumber for having read it.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A Wonderful Book
Review: This book is one of the most wonderful books ive ever read. it carecters are well defined, and memorable. The book is wonderfully crafted, and Goodkind has a wonderful knack for good fantasy.
