Summary: Excellent Read !
Review: This was the very first of many to come, fantasy novels I have read. I didn't buy this book out of my own interest, a good friend told me it was a great book and I am glad to say he was correct! If you can not handle adult content (sex, language, torture, love, truth and honor) well, no this book will not be for you. But without any of that this book would have been one I would have in my childrens bedroom and would have held no intrest to me!

The Wizards First Rule had me from the begining, putting it down only when I must. This book is about a forbidden love, the serch of the truth and to bring down the reign of A evil Wizard named Darken Rahl. The love portion of the story was about Kahlan and Richard and there heart warming and yet very hopeless love. Richard is the only real friend that Kahlan has ever met and the start of love inflames at a great risk to them both. Terry Goodkind does a great job making you feel as if you are right there wishing you could do something to change the fates! Almost every one knows that seeking the truth at times almost never seems easy. This book makes a point of showing how trust at bay is taken very lightly, and to many believe what they see and hear, and tend to forget or look past the facts. Richard must learn to believe in himself and look in his heart, his mind, his love and his hate for the facts. Now to the objective of the story, bringing down the reign of Darken Rahl. This portion of the story was well written, and had many odd turns that kept my full attention! Darken Rahl is a wizard with a whole lot of magic! His main goal is to retrieve the a box of orden so he will have the set of all three boxes of orden. Also to find a very important book on which box he should open due to the fact only one will do him any good, so he can rule the world with his evil magic. But Kahlan, Richard, Zedd and some of there friends stand in Darken Rahls way, finding the missing box first and try hiding it from him.

There is much I haven't said ... the book is over 800 pages long! But I assure you every page was well worth reading! And while I wait for the sequel: Stone of tears, to get here I may just read The wizards first rule again! This was a great book ... read it and prove me right !

Summary: A thoughtful book
Review: I loved this book, but most of the time it wasn't the characters, plot, or magic that made me stop reading and think for a moment, it was the tidbits of comparison of Goodkind's fantasy world to ours. I like books of this kind, epic fantasy, because it is an escape from our own reality. Books give us a new world to explore, to care about, and to live in. When I look back on the reading the book, I was never bothered to any extent by the violence, S&M, etc. that some people seem to be. I thought it was a rather good way to promote hating the villains and cheering on the hero and heroine. I could probably understand why people couldn't bring themselves to like this book one bit cause it was so deviant from normal fantasy themed books. Goodkind added in some of the most terrible aspects of the humanity, in this book and in later ones. Some might not be able to cope with that content, or others like me will just take it in stride, appreciate how it adds to the "realism" of the story, and enjoy the triumph of good over evil, intelligence over stupidity, and wisdom over prejudices.

This book has some scenes which are almost philisophical in nature. When it describes the first rule, "People will believe in anything if they fear it or want to believe in it". Now some have called that saying stupid, in my opinion everything has some truth in it, it is these small truths that are specked across the plotline, sometimes giving a more substantial depth to the story or just makes you think for a second. Whether if what he says is really true or not, it is an engrossing story he has put out. Each main character has been beset at some point by a personal loss, each told through character dialogue. We see more and more of the depths of Richard's friends and of Richard himself as he progresses through the story. We witness how Richard reacted to the loss of his mother by smothering his anger within, he concluded that if one was angry they will eventualy do things that they will later regret. He then comes upon how anger can be used to futher actions made with calmness. Each character has a history, and eventually their histories start to mesh and coalesch into something more tangible, a great plotline indeed.

This tirade's gonna end with just another small comparison between The sword Of truth series and the Wheel of Time series. Yes there are many coincidences between the two series that it seems like they are wrapped around a pole together. Although if you are objective, taking no sides in the argument, and look deeper you'll see that The sisters of Light and Aes Sedai aren't that similar. I would try to explain but this is getting too long. Anyone who likes Epic struggles of Good VS Evil, and are not repulsed by words that describe alot of violence, rape, killing in the fantasy world, then you should give some thought to reading this, in my opinion a masterpiece of a fantasy book.

Summary: Top shelf reading
Review: This is an extraordinary fantasy novel. This is as good as fantasy gets - if you've read and enjoyed Tolkien, Jordan, Donaldson, Brooks - this is a must-read. The narrative pulls you through at break-neck pace, unexpected twist after unexpected twist. Goodkind creates characters that truly involve the reader at the most basic level and sets them on an epic struggle of good versus evil. It's action-packed, romantic, funny, smart, heart-wrenching and, well, just fabulous. Great stuff!

Summary: Great Book
Review: I had read all of Jordan's books and liked them. I had read most of Mercades Lackay's books after picking up Winds of Fate off the shelf at random. I was so board because I could not find anything that kept me reading for more than 5 pages. Then I saw Wizard's First Rule on the shelf and decided to try it. That was close the best decision of my life. I read it in 3 days, because it was so inthralling. It has the usual fantasy ingrediants, romance, magic, different kingdoms in conflict. But it also had suprises waiting in every page. I loved it. Kahlan and Moiraine (of Jordan's Wheel of Time) have become my heroines, and I adored Rachel. Most people reveiwing Goodkind say it resembles Jordan's work. I think that Terry Goodkind has made a better first book than Jordan's Eye of the World, which I love and own. Wizard's First Rule is much more inthralling at the start and drws you in more than the Eye of the World. I, personally, love it. I rate it 6 out of 5 stars if I could. Oh, did I mention, I read it over 3 times after I finished it?

Summary: Very good opening, original
Review: I enjoyed this book immensely. I think that it had a great idea and opening for a series. I liked the originality and the book kept me up reading for hours.

I don't see a problem with realism in my fantasy books. It makes it seem more, well.......real. More often than not fantasy literature is ridiculed by movies, television, and popular opinion. Terry took this approach to add the real feeling and this ensures that the story will not be butchered in hollywood etc. For readers who do not like that kind of thing, I say - go read something else.

Worked out well and left me feeling good. You might be able to stop here if you liked as this is the best of the first three. I haven't started the fourth book yet so I will have to wait and see.

Summary: Beggining of an epic fantasy series
Review: This book begins the adventure of the Sword of Truth with a bang and it doesn't slow down in the later books, like the Wheel of Time. If you want a good fantasy read with adventure and a little romance too you will like this book. It has charecters and settings that seem real even if it is high fantasy.

Summary: Interesting...
Review: WOW! Even though I'm only eleven and it took me a full nine days to read this (Well, technically ten, I had to stay up past twelve o'clock on the last night to finish it) I think it's great. Of course it's not written for kids my age and all, but I think it rocks. I concurr with other people: I was glad that this book is what it is beacause I finish books faster than I can buy them or check them out of the library and it becoames *AGGRAVATING*. I highly reccomemnd this book...but a warning: it has a few "bad" things in it. It's worth it, though...I would say. Read this if you like fantasy...or even if you don't! Is Terry Goodkind a man or a woman? I also must praise Zedd...he's extremely FUNNY! Well, maybe not extremely, but I liked him a good deal. Read this book!

Summary: The more I think about it, the worse it gets
Review: I have read every Terry Goodkind novel, because it was good reading. The more I ponder this series, the more I hate it. It is boring fantasy with nothing original. Half of the series is a Harlequin in a fantasy cover. Then there is all the S&M - complete with leather, toys, and torture until sex prevails at the end. This is not fantasy, but some perverts way to sell a thier ideas. I also got sick of after about 4 books, it seems that Richard and Kahlan never are togeather and when they are it is a stupid, sleezy way - not a way for a heroin and hero. I think what really ruined this series for me is when I tried to compare it to George R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones - it doesn't compare.
