Summary: Interesting and fun to read
Review: This is a fun series...getting a bit long and I think an attempt to rival Robert Jordan's equally lengthy series. Nontheless, the stories are a great break from the drudgery of life. jordan can create a world full of great imagination and a captivating plot.

The characters are somewhat one-dimensional and at times the love story with Kahlan ventures into melodrama. I dont mind a good love story, but it gets a bit much sometimes.

This is not really an epic, nor is it a classic, but it is one of the better fantasy series out there. Goodkind should really end it sometime though.

Summary: AMAZING
Review: All i can say is ..... WOW. with simple prace Terry Goodkind weaves a tale of romance, magic, and wonder. He includes, of course , an excellent bad-guy and keeps you on the edge with constant adventure, mystery and heartache. I love the way he writes and, having read many different epic fantasy series, i conclude that Goodkind is definately up there with Feist, Eddings and Jordan.

Summary: Perversity of the story, destroys any entertaining value
Review: My husband and I were on a trip and we listened with anticipation to the book. I thoroughly enjoyed the story until the part where Richard's torture comes in. What kind of entertainment comes from listening to the degradation and torture of a man by such women? Although pure fantasy, what is the author's message?...what are you left with after listening to this kind of brutality? Training?...no author....just plain garbage....my vote is for the fire....sorry fellow readers...I absolutely love the story.....but not the perversity.

Summary: A great adult oriented fantasy adventure series
Review: Goodkind's Wizards first rule, is book one in a epic fantasy series that features an excellent balance of good, evil, magic and good old fashion steel. The character development in this book is excellent; you learn early just what you need to know about the three heroes and every little step of the way you learn a little more. Richard and Kahlan and the crazy old wizard Zedd fight the sadistic Darken Rahl, in an attempt to stop the world from evil.

The series centers around a sword of magic called the "Sword of Truth." The author lets you in on very few secrets about the sword in the beginning leaving you to learn about the sword as Richard does. In doing this Goodkind lets you grow with the story along with the characters as they learn new things about themselves and the sword.

The author does not spare the light of heart in this book and I definitely would not recommend this for children, although very excellently written, this series is definitely for adults. Darken Rahl's sadistic and sick behavior is described very Vividly in this book, enough to really give the reader about the sense of evil that this world faces. In addition to the violence, Goodkind introduces Mord-Sith the spitting image of your modern day BD/SM Mistress with strong sadistic and sexual overtones.

Overall I would definitely recommend this book to any adults who love fantasy adventure books

Summary: If you must read this, try borrowing it first...
Review: I borrowed this from a friend and had to put it down after struggling through about 300 pages. I believe this book is badly written, but I can see how it could appeal to the young adult male readers who like the Jordan'esk type epic stuff.

I must say that I'm very glad I borrowed this rather than buying it. If you really feel that you *must* give this book a go, then borrow it from a friend or library to see if it's your cup of tea.

If you want something that's a little more mature and well written, have a look at George R. R. Martin's Song of Ice and Fire series. It also has its share of violence and sex, but it's in context, and the story is wonderfully written.

Summary: It's a good book.
Review: You will enjoy this book, it has a lot of Tolkien in it...but I still like it.

Summary: Fantasy at its best.
Review: There is simply one word to categorize this book: AWESOME. I have just begun to read fantasy novels and this book leaves me with hopes for all the others I read to be half of this, and we will be doing just fine.

When you first pick up Wizard's First Rule you think "Good Lord, this thing is huge!"

By the time you finish it, though, you will be begging it to last longer.

If you can't think of anything else to read just get a copy of this. And no, sensitive people, it is not just a blood and guts tale, but actually one of love more than anything else.

Summary: If you know Jordan, you'll love Goodkind
Review: Anyone that has read the Wheel of Time series by the terrific author Robert Jordan will love and understand what Goodkind is getting to. Goodkind mixes his own elements of plot and characters with a bit of connection to his fantasy pretessor, Jordan. The connections between Goodkind's Sword of Truth series and Jordan's Wheel of Time series are astonishing.

Many people that havn't read Jordan don't see the connection to Goodkind. As an avid reader of both Jordan and Goodkind, I can see the resemblance and also the basis of characters such as the Mord-Sith. Goodkind bases some of his characters highly on the influence of Jordan. Goodkind's protangonist (Richard) is amazingly like Jordan's Rand.

If you intend to read Goodkind, and have knowledge of Jordan, you will find the book quite unique. The symbolic parts are estonishingly similar, however, not to the point that you can't tell which book is which. If you are like me, starting out on Goodkind, you will be drawn in, and will definately have trouble putting the book down. A great read!

Summary: Way better than Jordan
Review: Fantastic series! I'm on book 4 right now and the plots and characters continue to delight and intrigue. It's refreshing that that the "good" characters are allowed to do things typically taboo in most novels. I get such a feeling of personal satisfaction out the way they deal with troublesome situations; they don't always take the "high ground." The main characters' flaws & quirks have me laughing out loud quite a bit.

Reviewers tend to group Terry Goodkind with Robert Jordan, or as being "almost in Jordan's league." I simply HAD to comment on this. No disrespect to Mr. Jordan, but I read 2 of the Wheel of Time series based on glowing reviews and just couldn't slog through another one. Although parts of it were very good, a lot of it it didn't hold my interest enough to continue. I just didn't care. I often found myself reading another chapter simply because I didn't have anything better to read. Not so with the Sword of Truth series! A matter of personal taste, obviously, but I find myself reading it wherever I find a free moment. I actually look forward to taking the train to work now!

Of course it's not perfect, I sometimes find the characters do things that I feel are too stupid or shlocky for their character, such as a reunited couple kissing in the middle of a raging battlefield or an enemy either blatantly revealing their achilles heel (pressing the red button is the only thing that will destroy my power!) to another character, or verbalizing their entire nefarious plot to a relatively minor victim. However, I can easily overlook this in light of EVERYTHING else this wonderful series has to offer.

As for me, I was a major Tolkien-head as a kid and currently very much enjoy both Robin Hobb and George R.R. Martin's books. If you like those authors, don't miss this series! True as toasted toads.
