Review: This is the first book in a series of many. After reading this book you will be captivated to go and buy the rest and check every day to see if the next one has come out. Terry Goodkind is one of the best authors and all of his books are works of art. It has everything a good book should and much more.

Summary: Wonderful beyond Words
Review: Wizard's First Rule is wonderful. It pulls you in from the beginning, taking you quickly from place to place. Intriguing, exciting, detailed, I cannot give enough praise. I'm hooked on the Sword of Truth series. I read Wizard's First Rule, as soon as I finished I went to buy the next book, then the next. Terry Goodkind is an excellent author.

Summary: I had to make myself finish it...
Review: I read through it, hearing all the good reviews, and I could see some elements that were true fantasy archetypes.However, I felt bludgeoned by a couple things that took me completely out of my immersion. The first was the blatantly evil, blatantly Communist regime. The second was the society of Sado-masochists. I don't see an entire society based on this core concept as one that will last long. These elements, to me, were written in a way that lacked any sense of subtlety. The reader was not tasked with thinking about these elements in this book. I haven't read any more in this series and I won't be re-reading this one any time soon (if ever). Others may find this book to your taste, but not everyone is going to enjoy it.

Summary: better than i could have ever hoped. . .
Review: the plot is simple-or so it seems. the typical quest adventure all die hard fantasy lovers live for turns out to be not so typical. unlike jordan whose multitude of characters seem impossible to keep filed in memory between his latest no-so-great sequels, goodkind fleshes out his characters with a skill not often seen. richard and kahlan have become real people to me and everyone else who has met them. the people they have met along the way have also. zedd is like the grandfather i never had. the adventure is nonstop. the need to know everything about goodkind's world keeps you reading. the less you think you know the better. you'll read more that way. buy all six if you plan just to buy wizards first rule (you wont even make it to the bookstore without dying of curiosity anticipation or both) WARNING: don't expect to go slow and savor the book-you'll only end up killing yourself.

Review: Thrilling, fast-paced, and amazing. This book is one of my favorites and SO awesome. I think everyone should read it, it definately deserves a 5-star rating!!

Summary: Must Read
Review: Well let me start by telling you that, of course I LOVED THIS BOOK!!I am 13 years old and I love to read the bigger the book the better because it will keep me occupied for a while and "out of other peoples hair". My mom picked this book out first and told me to read it I didn't really want to because I judge books by there cover and, yes I know stupid but what can I say, I started reading this book and I couldn't stop. I have currently read the 5 books from the Sword Of Truth novels that are out and am dying to read the 6th and I recommend to everyone who loves fantasy to read this book it's slow going in the beginning but stick in there it is totally worth it.

Review: This book has to be one of my all time favorites with regards to fantasy novels! The whole series that Terry Goodkind came up with in his first outing has left me reeling for more! Follow Richard and Kahlan through mysteries and fantastic adventures that leave your heart pounding and your hands clenched around the book hanging on every word! I would recommend this whole series as a must have for any fantasy enthusiast!

Summary: Poorly written, predictable, on of the worst I've ever read
Review: I'll be brief as other people have said the same things. The book was very predictable. Not simply like much fantasy is, but worse. I had figured out far too much too soon. e.g. it was obvious that michael had been involved in George Cypher's murder, and that he was alligned with D'Hara. Diologue between characters lacked the fine tuning that I expect from an author. Much of the dialogue was juvenille. On the positive side, the next book does appear to be tighter.

Summary: Why is this book so popular?
Review: It is a matter of taste, but I am surprised at how highly recommended this book came. The general plot is cliched and formulaic. The protagonist is oh-so virtuous, honest and loving. His friends (mostly) are too. Every five seconds someone snaps or glares at someone else only to apologize for their manner, say how they are just fighting for the good of their cause and then the tender hug. The villains are similarly hackneyed. The main enemy rejoices in dealing death and destruction in the pursuit of some ultimate power. Of course, the good guys have almost no hope of victory against a seemingly unassailable foe but somehow their love and virtue allow them to prevail against the forces of evil. Characters are introduced in a manner that pretty much tells you whether they are good or bad. Very few surprises there. The book is not horrible but it is just not that good. I had a hard time caring about the characters in the story and felt as if I was forcing myself to finish. The story is so heavily hinged upon a couple of characters that you know that they have to survive the ordeal (as there would be no story otherwise). The run-of-the-mill nature of this book is why I gave up on fantasy for so long. An especially disappointing experience after having read George R. R. Martin's "Song of Ice and Fire" series. Now there is a set of books worth reading! Of course, the person who recommended this book did not care for them. If you like a story where the heroes and villains are depicted in a black-and-white manner, and after a gauntlet of last minute victories snatched from seemingly certain defeat, if you do not want to worry overmuch as to whether or not the heroes will survive the sinister machinations of those sinister and dark villains, then this book is probably for you. If you prefer a story that is a tad more gritty and grim, where the characters just happen to be on one side or the other and not necessarily good or evil and no particular person is so important that the story would be at an end if fate was met early, then consider the above series or the "Black Company" series by Glenn Cook. As I said, it is a matter of preference.
