Rating: Summary: Goodkind, the best around. Review: I loved this book. Goodkind is in no way "BrainCandy". This book is pure perfection. I could not improve on any facet of this book. His strong character development can be equalled only by his superb story development. Goodkind is among the best fantasy authors ever. I would truly consider him on the same plateau as Tolkien and Jordan. I have my own Terry Goodkind page. Email me further inquiry
Rating: Summary: Goodkind = Brain Candy Review: I didn't like this book very much, and I'm glad I didn'tbuy it in hardcover. From all the hype I'd heard aboutWizard's First Rule and Goodkind in general, I thought it was going to be something fresh and daring--but it fell back on the same tired cliches, and the ending was worse than than anything a drunken hollywood producer could cobble together. It's preachy, boring, and the world-building is abured, so it's no wonder that it sold so well. All that bulk and no spark.
Rating: Summary: Superb - Suprising for a first published book Review: Terry Goodkind is to be commended for this work. I found the story so compelling that I had to stay up all night to finish the last third of the book
Rating: Summary: Stayed up until 4--what a fool I was! Review: The first several hundred pages of this novel are interesting--the world-building works pretty well, most characters are full, story keeps moving, etc.
However, the underlying ideology leaves much to be desired--
falls off into horrible sappiness, the magic is not thought-
through, the wizard character is hollow and overly derivative, the violence is largely gruesome and unmotivated,
sexist roles for both women and men can wear on your nerves.
Showed some promise, but left me so annoyed with myself for
finishing it that I wanted to throw it across the room (I hoped until the end it would improve).
Rating: Summary: Engaging characters, strong story, great dialogue. Review: This is one of the few fantasy novels that I have found to be a "page turner" in quite a while.
Mr. Goodkind does a wonderful job of creating a rich and complex tapestry. His dialogue is readable without being pedantic or overly flowery.
Rating: Summary: Excellent. Emotionally compellin. Not just a fantasy novel Review: This is, perhaps, the best book i have read all year. It is
rich in drama, and emotion. I can not tell you how many
times i just wanted to stop scream and cry. I did in fact
stop and scream many times, when the story simply went someplace new, and the most unexpected thing happened. There
were two moments in this and the second novel, that i had to just put it down. I could not believe that a story,
a book, anything but real life could make me feel like that.
I was heartbroken when it ended and quite impatiently await
the next. I won't bother you with a synopsis or anything, just to say
READ IT! ENJOY IT! I know you absolutely will. It is unmatched in it's genre, and surpasses so many others
outside.
Rating: Summary: A really good book! Review: Worth the time to read, but if you're like me,you won't be able to put it down.I can't tell you how good this book is!You just have to read it and hope that it grips you like it did
the rest of us!
Rating: Summary: A really good book!! Review: Wizard's First Rule is a great book!!!! And if you haven't read this or haven't read the sequal I think you'd really enjoy them.
I personally favor Stone of Tears over Wizard's First Rule.
Rating: Summary: one of the most captivating books I ever read Review: From the beginning, this book and its sequel drew me into its world and by the end I was left breathless, hoping there would be more. Not only does the story pit the forces of good against evil and provide wonderful characters for identification, the painful tribulations both in the sphere of personal hardship and love make this story intensely captivating. I have recommended it to every one of my "fantasy and science fiction reading" friend
Rating: Summary: An "all nighter" and more.. Review: This book was incredible, as is the sequel! I'm a long-time fan
of the fantasy genre among many others.
It kept me more than just entertained, I was captivated..
I read this book in less than 48 hours, and if I were Siskel
and Ebert's version of a book reviewer, well suffice it to say
"three thumbs up!" (Is three thumbs possible?)
I'm a fan of David Eddings, Tolkien, Raymond Feist, Piers Anthony,
and many others. Suffice it to say that Terry Goodkind is among
the "best of 'em"..
