Review: "You've got one life to live, live it peace...live in truth...", the great Lou Rawls once sang. But what is the truth of time? Of our lives? Of death? Ken Grimwood's book is wonderful exploration of time and the meaning of life. I didn't find it preachy or cheesy or anything other than sincere and geniune. The message of the book is a common one, but it is told with such insight and creativity that it will touch you in a new way. This is a rare book in that could possibly change the way you are living your life. While I can't credit this extraordinary novel with that, I can at least say it got me thinking about my world and my place in it. The idea of replaying your life over and over is a powerful one. What decisions would you make differently? What does it mean to us now? I don't want to say too much about the plot--it deserves to be discovered by a first time reader. The details are fantastic here. It even had insights on the terrorism issues we face today. Though written in 1986, the book is not at all dated. Whatever you make of the book, your life will touched. You will never forget the experience of Jeff Winston and how he touched you.

Many times I have thought, if I make this decision now, would I make it different if given the chance?I moved several times and lost the book, but as mentioned, I never forgot the premise of being able to replay part of your life and what would you do different. I could not remember the Title or the author and spent many hours in the library searching various themes such as reincarnation, time travel, etc. but could not locate the book. Then, in the late 90's, with the Internet, I began another search and found it on Amazon. I immediately orderred and upon receipt read again with great joy. This time I gathered even more insight into what the book was about, SECOND CHANCES. Think about it. If you could go back 25 years what would you do different? That boggles the mind. I put the book in a safe place and have just pulled off the shelf again and read for the third time. Again, a tremendous thought provoking read. This has to be one of the best books written for those that reflect on their lives, what they have accomplished, what they want to accomplish, and how to go about it. I have raised my children telling them, Each choice you make in life, no matter how small or large has a consequence. It may be good or bad, but there is always a consequence. A great book!

Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Life Changing Experience Review: I hate to admit it but I don't read as much as I should but after reading Replay in record time for me (two days) I am already looking for my next book. The story and relationships projected deep into my soul and made me take a emotional glimpse of how I live my own life. I'm astounded at the way this novel made me feel about what is really important in this brief time we spend on this planet. Choices, Relationships and Priorities. I hope that it effects others as well. We can only hope that Mr. Grimwood is creating more stories like it. I honestly didn't want it to end. Lets hope that Hollywood doesn't botch up the film version. I recomend it highly.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Absolutely the best "alternate reality" book ever published. Review: This book unlike any other encourages the reader to really examine his or her life in a totally unique situation. What would you do if you got a second, third or fourth chance to live your life over. The heartbreak of losing children, wives, fortunes made and lost and ultimately of being bored with quite literally "nothing new under the sun". Even though I read this book when it was initially released in hardcover, have read it 8-10 times since, have 2 first edition copies and numerous paperback copies, I still find the concept of replaying your life one of the most fascinating and compelling ideas ever envisioned. Hardly a week goes by when I'm not thinking of this idea. This book brings home the reality of winning the "Grand Lotto", what would you do with all that wealth, and in this case a whole new life or series of lives. An outstanding read! This is the book you've looked your whole life to find
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Excellent - far better than The Time Traveler's Wife Review: When I first started this book the author describes in detail how the central character, Jeff, first returns back in time to his life in college. There are Playboy magazines on his shelves and the guy has a girlfriend - what sleazeball has Playboys when he's in a relationship? And it seemed like there was a level of denseness in the character's thinking in how long it took him to realize that he "wasn't in Kansas" any longer Maybe this is a mandatory scene in every time travel novel - the central characters have to go through this charade of disbelief. Once I got past these scenes, however, "Replay" took off. In fact, after reading this immediately after "The Time Traveler's Wife" I was astonished by how much better this book was. Far more engrossing and just more believable. The characters are believable. They're not blinded by their "love." They sometimes make bad choices, but those choices are usually made with some common sense - not because the plot demanded it. The elements outside the characters who are living their lives over and over are absolutely believable. In one story the US government gets involved and basically imprisons the two characters because of their ability to "predict the future" so accurately. And then the book shows how the world spins out of control when the government misuses this information. Realistic. Definitely. Another realistic approach is how the author recognizes the fact that most people have loved more than one person in their lifetime. The two central characters, for example, love each other, but yet they also love (romantically) others who have entered their life. There is no contradiction. It's just reality. Most people have also had more than one relationship. It's as if the author took someone's life and expanded it by 150 years and then allowed that person to fully explore the weaknesses and strengths of each relationship. The author doesn't try to create silly rules as was the case with "Time Traveler's Wife." The characters can change things . . . or not. It's their choice. As for paradoxes, etc. they're glossed over, but handled well enough. The author has bigger fish to fry. The book has a point. Some have argued that it is trite. I disagree. Live your life to the fullest, enjoy the moments, take advantage of what you have - you only get it once. Sometimes the truest statements are the shortest statements one can make. To expect the meaning of life from the author is a bit much. The author (now apparently deceased) was not some god. He didn't write the Bible or the Koran. He wrote a very good time travel novel with a simple but eloquent point that just makes sense.
Rating: ![4 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-4-0.gif) Summary: Escape reality with "Replay" Review: Grimwood creates an interesting concept in Replay, reliving one's life over and over again. I was glued to this book after the first chapter. Replay is one of those rare books that allows a person to escape their present life, and become enthralled in the life of another, in this case Jeff as he lives and relives his life. Escaping reality and getting lost in a book is one of the main reasons I enjoy reading, if you are at all similar in this respect, give this book a try. Part of what makes this book successful in my opinion is Grimwood's superb use of imagery. He uses imagery so well that the scenes and situations become tactile and real, in a word, believable. I am a highly visual person and as such imagery is always a technique I look for in books, so well done Grimwood. Take a look at the other reviews for this book, all great, I could not agree more! If you enjoy "alternate reality" books, than you must consider Replay. Read it just to escape your own reality.
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: Absolutely great! Review: Mr. Grimwood wrote the most riveting, extraordinary trip into time I have ever encountered. Please don't miss this one - Mr. Grimwood is gone and there won't be anymore like this one - Just mesmerizing!!
Rating: ![5 stars](http://www.reviewfocus.com/images/stars-5-0.gif) Summary: This is my favorite book... Review: I have read thousands of books... In my hey day of reading, back before the nastiness set in, you know... adulthood? Where you have to work? I used to read a book a day, sometimes more... I discovered this book completely by accident... My voracious reading habits are totally to blame... This book epitomises every dream of almost every person... A chance to try to make it right... Ken Grimwood, Thank you. Some people read to learn, others read for pleasure... Me, I always read to escape, to find a place better than this planet. And This Book does that perfectly. I almost felt transported while I read this one. I don't know if Ken is an excellent writer? Or if the characters are in-depth creations... I think it could just be that the idea is perfect for my personality and the way I view fantasy writing. No matter tho... If you enjoy reading, this is your book. Second on my list would be: The Girl, the Gold Watch, and Everything... definitely a second best in my book. But Replay takes the cake... Great Read!
