Rating: Summary: Not bad at all... Review: I just read this book last night, in one sitting, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Not quite what I usually read, but I was very pleasantly surprised. I must admit, I didn't read the book before it, (to be honest, I didn't know about it) but I got in the spirit of the story very quickly. All of the characters are different, which is what makes it so good. But, I have to say, I couldn't get enough of Darkness. (or Doyle, if you prefer) Who could resist a guy like that? Those eyes, that skin, that body, his hair... All I can say is Wow!
Rating: Summary: Good Stuff! Review: Hamilton is a joy to read. The only bad part is that I finish her books in one night. If you want to be entertained, try one of her books!
Rating: Summary: Oooooh! Naked fairies! Review: I have read the first two books of Ms. Hamilton's fairy series. I love them both. Meridith is like a sexier, softer version of Anita Blake's character. Also she is not as bogged down by the (sometimes) false-seeming morality of Anita. It seems more and more silly that Anita can kill without a qualm but can't seem to get with the program about her own sexuality. No such problems with Meridith, however, as she and her cadre of guards have sex throughout the whole book. There is not just sex going on though. She still finds time to help a fellow sidhe in the fertility department and the local police whether they want it or not. I had a slight problem with how some loose ends were left hanging but I guess I'll just have to buy the next book when it comes out. (Hurry, Hurry, please Ms. Hamilton!)
Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Review: At first I was very disappointed to learn that the author was starting a new series, and not continuing with her tried-and-true Anita Blake storyline, but my fears were soon put to rest. Ms.Hamilton's novel is brilliant - Brilliant! If you've ever dreamed of being a (somewhat lewd) fairy princess, this is the book for you. Her characters sound magnificent, with wonderful descriptions of multi-colored eyes, long, beautiful hair, and glamour (magic) that lies just under the surface, always. The princess and her entourage face many interesting challenges, and overcome them all, but rarely come across as "too good to be true". This story is entrancing - a must read!
Rating: Summary: Another imaginative, can't put it down read! Review: I would definitely recommend reading the "A Kiss of Shadows" first then delve right into this keeper. The adventures of Princess Merry continue to tease and intrigue until you want to read this story from beginning to end in one sitting...It makes you want the third installment right away...Each book is its own story but leaves you wanting more so you yearn for further adventures. This series certainly lacks nothing in the sexy imagination category... Highly recommended as a stress getaway to another world!
Rating: Summary: Seelie info, lukewarm sex, and a smidge of danger Review: I just finished reading the second Merry Gentry books. I did like this one, although perhaps not as much as the first installment. The Princess and co. stayed in the City of Angeles for the duration of this book. I was happy to read more regarding the Seelie court. Also, Meredith comes to the realization that she's not just a princess...she's heir to the throne, to power. I know that Ms. Hamilton receives complaints regarding the sex in her books. Personally, I don't think that reading about hot sex, etc. is a bad thing. However, I wasn't all that impressed with what I read in TWILIGHT. The scenes with Doyle, Kitto and Galen weren't all that spectacular. Perhaps this is Ms. Hamilton's response to all the negative comments. The sex is still there, but now it's not even all that great. It was also nice to learn a little more about men in Merry's life. I wish more time had been spent on Doyle's character. Anyway, I will look forward to reading the next installment of Merry's quest for pregnancy and thus the throne.
Rating: Summary: I never visualized faeries like this Review: Merry is the heir to one of two faerie thrones. The other heir is being punished for trying to kill her. To inherit the throne, she must have a baby, and she seems to be doing her best. She is employed as a private detective and has been assigned to help find out about a series of mass killings in the Los Angeles area. She senses that it is connected with the supernatural and with the help of her bodyguards she is determined to stop it. This was a very well written novel. The author's descriptions were essential in painting word pictures of a very different society. The story line is very exciting and I look forward to the next installment of the series.
Rating: Summary: Better than Anita Blake. Review: I absolutely loved this book.I have read her other books ,but this is by far the best.
Rating: Summary: Much,Much Better!! Review: I was rather unhappy with the 1st installment but his one is head and shoulders above the 1st!!! Not so much sex and a lot more mythology. I'm actually very eager to read the next installment!! Ms. Hamilton is not so elegant as Anne Rice, not so old world but this was fun! It's not as steeped in mythology as Charles De Lint or as hip and funny as Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett but this was a good yarn and I'll definately read the next installment. Bravo!
Rating: Summary: Watch Princess Meredith pull another power out of a hat... Review: Okay, I think I have got the elements of a Laurell K. Hamilton novel down now. We have (1) a female heroine, (2) who investigates crimes, (3) which the police do not like her doing, (4) pays attention to both her wardrobe and weaponry, (5) has very detailed sex, (6) with a lot of different guys, (7) none of whom are really human, (8) which has political ramifications for the world in which she lives, (9) complicates her life by insisting on protecting those within her circle, (10) fights a terrible monster, (11) hates other people fighting her battles, and (12) manifests a new power when she most needs it to kill the terrible monster, (13) thereby reaching a new level in her continuing evolution. Those elements certainly defines Hamilton's latest novel, ________ (You can put "A Caress of Twilight" in there, as well as the previous volume in the saga of Princess Meredith of the fey, or any one of the Anita Blake novels). We certainly have to admit that Hamilton has her formula down, but this is really becoming too redundant and repetitive. At her best, as in the early Anita Blake novels, Hamilton is a superb horror writer who comes up with some of the best climaxes I have ever read in the genre. I always figured if her novels were adapted to the screen they would be rated "X", not for the sex, but for the violence. Now we not only have this formula, we also have Hamilton's annoying habit of revealing new information about the characters and their powers just as they are needed. There is no sense of anticipating what happens because the resolution of most crises involves the application of something new and hitherto unknown. In the old days, we would have dismissed a book like this as a potboiler. For those who have been becoming more and more distressed by Hamilton's apparent attempt to to be a best-selling author of soft porn, there is more sex in this tale than "A Kiss of Shadows," but the details are toned down. I think. But then please take into account that Princess Meredith is having all sex for reasons of procreation and alliance building, not lust and love. Then again, the dedication mentions that this is the first novel that Hamilton's husband has read from start to finish, and perhaps there is a connection. Of course, the titles of these books certainly emphasize the sex and sensuality and I shudder to think what might be down the road as we get beyond kisses and caresses. I leave such potential titles to your own imaginations. Have fun.
