Summary: A caress of frustration
Review: Don't get me wrong - I love LKH's writing and can't get enough of it - but having bought Caress of Twilight on its pub day and read it immediately, I was left feeling a bit empty and frustrated. Spoilt by the action-packed plots of Anita Blake, I find Merry's books sadly lacking in plot depth, and the characters are nothing like as compelling; in fact it sometimes gets difficult to tell the studs apart. While this book has its moments, overall it felt short and put together (and concluded) much too quickly. One wonders why the king went to such bizarre lengths to get rid of the troublesome film-star, when he could have surely just sent an assassin to blow up her villa.

Summary: Please Don't Hate Me For Not Loving It!!
Review: I do not know if her writing has changed or I am outgrowing her characters, but I do not feel that this lived up to LKH. This is the last hardback I purchase of hers. I loved the 1st in the series, but this one was a real let down. I really feel she gets Anita(see Anita Blake series) confused w/Merry.She seems to be rushing thru these books and not giving them the previous depth that the others had. I did not feel that her characters were as well developed as previous novel and it lost my interest about 1/2 way thru. Forced myself to finish, and like I said, will no longer eagerly await her books, or purchase hard backs. From now on I am a paperback used book store girl for LKH until she goes back to better development. I would recomend 1st book in series and Anita Blake series 1-6, lost me on those after that.

Review: A Caress of Twilight is a wonderful second installment in the Meredith Gentry series. The subplot this book is based around is good but what highlights this book is the development of the characters. In the first book I began to like the main character, Meredith Gentry. In this second book I began to see the supporting characters around her as real figures with their own roles to play in the political intrigues and plot twists of the main story. This second book makes you care about these supporting characters, not just in how they will help Meredith attain the throne but in how they will achieve their own happiness, something very rare indeed in the Unseelie Court.

Summary: Darkly sensual and evocative
Review: I was surprised to see this in the bookshop, as I had not been expecting it to be out yet. I of course bought it, I love Laurell's novels. And I found this one a very enjoyable read. I acutally think this was in some ways much better than the first, as it really allows you to see their fey world more, and also distance yourself from the Anita series. Of course after Naricissus that really was not a difficult task.
A Caress of Twilight had a lot more character development, allowing the reader to see more into the minds of Merry and her men. Especially Doyle and Frost. The sex is much tamer, which i preferred, more sensual then being explicit like A Kiss in the Shadows. If you want something which is a good read, with rich, well defined characters then this is a must.
However like all of Laurell's books, the murder/threatening plot is pushed to the back and then basically forgotten until being suddenly resolved in a chapter. I'm heartly sick of having everything neatly wrapped up in the final chapter, when just a little more detail is needed. This is her writing style however so I should not complain.
Give it a go and read it. You will enjoy it, I'm sure of it.

Review: I personally, would like to start off by saying i love the anita blake series, with the exception of the last 3 (that richard makes me so mad!) and when i read Akiss of shadows i was thrilled , i loved the book. When I heard that there was to be a sequel i became nervous, I liked the character of Merry and of course I LOVED DOYLE, who i feel even if Merry does not realize it, should be king.He is a leader, he cares for Merry and he is sexy as hell! the others are just window dressing. But i became nervous and thought about how let down i was with the Anita Blake series.
I pray that she does not continue to use the sex with the guards as a plot devise like she did with Anitas never ending powers. I mean sex in a novel does not bother me but after a while, i started skipping over the scenes to get to the plot! I too thought Sage was going to be another body in the mix, they are all interchangable, he could always be used for later.The relationships between Merry and the raven I thought was the focus but when you start randomly introducing characters it just becomes sex, not about the people or their relationships. the over all plot was wonderful it gave us a little more of the seelie court and their shining throne of hippocrates.we even got to meet merrys mother. I too began to wonder as another reviewer did how long can the having sex with Merry, whos going to be king plot device last? Well im rooting for DOYLE and I would also like to ask mrs. Hamilton to please dont push DOYLE in the back round, like she did JEAN CLAUDE, a lovely character who just seemed to fade away!

Summary: I don't agree with the negative reviews.
Review: I was surprised to see all the negative reviews. I really liked A Caress of Twilight. I agree that plot is rather weak, but I think the characters and relationships more than compensate. There is a lot of sex, but there was also a lot of sex in A Kiss of Shadows. Sex plays a significant role in fey life and that is reflected in Merry's dealings with other fey characters, whether they be sidthe or not. You can see that Merry's feelings for the men in her life are being tempered by political realities. She needs a king, not just a husband and a father for her child. Perhaps that is why Galeen has such a small role in this book compared to the first. Merry is a very different character than Anita Blake and some fans of that series may not like the Merry Gentry books. Anita is very independent, rather violent and won't let men open the door for her. Merry relies more on others, especially men, prefers to deal with things politically rather than with violence and is much less abrasive. I like both characters and think the contrasts between them help keep the series distinct. I imagine that the Anita Blake books have a greater appeal for men. The Merry Gentry books remind me more of fantasy romance novels. If you prefer action with a strong sprinkling of violence, I would suggest starting with Guilty Pleasures. If you prefer books with more of an emphasis on the relationship between characters, I would start with A Kiss of Shadows.

Summary: For god's sake Laurell, go back to Anita!!!!!
Review: Let me start off by saying that I am a big fan of Laurell K Hamilton--I have all of her Anita Blake books, and I even LOVED Kiss of Shadows. However, this book is seriously ridiculous. Hamilton has ruined the great start she had with Kiss of Shadows. I mean, Merry and Kitto? That is beyond perverse, not to mention how she disgraces Doyle in creating such a silly, insulting, and basically racist family history for him. It's so bad that it's embarassing to admit that I ever read it.

Summary: Good but not enough depth
Review: As a follow up to 'Kiss of Shadows' 'Caress of Twilight' was barely the first couple of chapters of what should have been the second book. The book was well writen and expeanded on the various characters introduced in 'Kiss of Shadows' but didn't move the plot forward. It doesn't seem to have done anything except establish a new bad guy that must be dealt with later on. It definatly wasn't long enough.

Summary: Worth reading, but did not devour!
Review: I am a big fan of the Anita Blake series and I really enjoyed the 1st book in the Meredith Gentry series. However, this book did not contain the "spark" or excitment that I am use to in her books. The last four chapters did get to that level but there were 2 big "baddies" to face and 1 is handled by a simple sentence like..."Rhys had no trouble putting the xxxxx down." (Don't want to spoil the book for anyone). Something else is that Meredith is not that much different from Anita in this book. While reading it I keep thinking about Anita (that was not a problem in the 1st book).
I see this book as a stepping stone to setting up the next book. As I understand it, this series is a 7 book series. Other than the major event at the end of the book, not sure why this was written. Don't get me wrong, it was a good enjoyable read; but below what I have come to expect from Ms. Hamilton. I was going to only give it 2 stars but then realized it is worth 3 stars.
