Rating: Summary: Left in the lurch Review: This was one of those series that keep you enthralled from page one of the first book to the last page of the third book. You can scarcely put them down for want of knowing what's going to happen to the characters that Robin Hobbs has created, introduced you to and made you fall in love with. The only catch is the hasty ending, that leaves you in utter despair for the life the the main character is left to be satisfied with. While all the people his life has effected and influenced (during his time as catalyst)have their lives made to appear in absolute harmony. I can only hope that Robin Hobbs, wakes from an all inspiring dream, invigorated to write another. Otherwise if you an avid fantasy reader who enjoys a spell-binding tale, this is defiantly a must read.
Rating: Summary: A Worthy Read With A Disappointing Ending Review: Robin Hobb takes the time to pull the reader deep into the lives of her characters. I was more invested in the characters of these books than anything I have previously read. I felt the pain and disappointment of the main character as personal attacks. I was right with him through each trial and heartache and on to eventual redemption. Professional reviewers have commented that these books were too long. I think that the investment pays off. Except. This is another of those books where you are really invested and the plot is thick and you know it's the last book and you look in horror to realize that there is only 15 pages left. Someone either got bored or ran into a deadline. I agree with a number of other reviewers. The end was sloppy and unsatisfying. After all the evolution and growth the main character goes through, the ending truly belies the magnitude of the character's strength and accomplishments.
Rating: Summary: Loved it but could there be more? Review: Ok, first of all this series has been one of the best I have ever read. The characters are entirely human complete with human flaws, even our main character and narrator, Fitz. I have gone back and reread the series several times over only to draw the same conclusion: as much as Robin Hobbs concludes the story, I don't think it's quite over. Perhaps it's just my fascination nearing obsession with Fitz and his life, but I don't think the story can quite end yet. Fitz cannot give up his life as the catalyst. Hobbs just lets Fitz off easy without the audience knowing if his and the Fool's endeavors were successful. I don't think they were and I don't think Fitz's job it quite done yet. The last of the prophecies isn't fufilled yet, so where's the Fool? There has to be more. Please. I'm begging here. It can't just end. I don't care how conclusive Hobbs makes it (and it's very conclusive, it just doesn't get more conclusive than this) the story's not played out. But still that could just be me. I immensly enjoyed the entire series.
Rating: Summary: Another fine sequel Review: it is now the third book of the series and i am stil very much attached to the characters, in this book Fitz is now a young man he has given himself the task to kill Regal and make him pay for his treachery and then promises himself to find Verity his uncle then to return to his love molly i'm now only up to page 597 at the moment i haven't finished it but i love this writteers talent a worthy book to read but to get anything read the first 2, i only wish i could meet the writer of such a great series of books for she has enspired me
Rating: Summary: One Great Series Review: Never have I read such a heart tearing tale, a tale that will never be excelled. Yeah, some books are written better, more detailed, better plots...but nothing can compare to the pure story this series presents. Love ya Robin!
Rating: Summary: Master Story Teller Review: Robin Hobb is truly a master story teller. Once you read one of his books, not only will you not be able to put it down, you will be running to the stores to buy more of his books. I definitaly recommond this book to anyone who is a true lover of fantasy.
Rating: Summary: Excellent Review: Not many books leave me thinking about it after I'm done with them. But this one left me thinking a lot. The Fitz did everything for his King like he was asked and in a way did give his life. But at the end he lost everything he cared about. The ending actually depressed me and I just about cried for the guy. Overall this book was excellent a little slow in couple of parts but the rest made up for it. Read the series and it will prove to you that you don't need a happy ending to have a great series. I think I would rank this one in the top 5 of the series I have read.
Rating: Summary: excellent, but....... Review: I first read Robin Hobb's Assassin's Apprentice on a whim, the book was on a co-worker's desk, and I asked to borrow it. This final installment wraps up the trilogy quite well, however the final book was definitely a bit too long. I look forward to other stories from robin hobbs and the world she has created
Rating: Summary: One of the best... Review: I have never written a review before, but this trilogy, ending with this book, seems to draw it from me. It is, quite simply, the best story I've read for a very long time. I've been casting about for something to interest me, and was frankly hesitant to begin with the first book of this trilogy. I ended up reading the entire trilogy in less than a week. The characters in this story seem very real and, as another reviewer pointed out, actually human, with all the proclivity for error, misunderstanding, and uncertainty that characterizes humanity. I felt Fitz' pain and suffering, as well as his joy, throughout the story. I don't understand all of his motivation, nor all of the motivations of the other characters, but how often do we understand the drives of those people around us? It only adds to the story's dark reality. Just as in reality, the strife and hardship that is faced in the story brings out the best in some and the worst in others. There is failure and triumph, life and death, courage and cowardice, pleasure and pain. Thank you, Robin.
Rating: Summary: loved it Review: I'm not usually a big fantasy fan, but the writing quality of this series sucked me in. The ending of this trilogy, in particular the last paragraph, has stayed with me since I read it months ago. Fine, fine stuff.
