Summary: A must read for Shannara fans
Review: I was so excited that Terry Brooks had returned to the Shannara series I could hardly wait for my copy to arrive. I have to admit to skimming through parts of the book after first receiving it and feeling somewhat disappointed. I thought Walker showed too much emotion and feeling for a Druid and I did not care for many of the new characters. However, I made myself start from the beginning and I have to say I couldn't put it down. In reading the book in whole, I appreciated the characters more and also the feeling of Walker still adjusting to being a Druid and his own feelings about it. I do wish, however, that more explanation could be given as to what happened to the previous characters rather than just generalizations. I must also confess to some disappointment to the use of airships. Although I know 100+ years have passed since the last Shannara books and they, too, must progress, air travel (other than by Rocs) seems to take the story more into the science fiction realm rather than maintaining the feeling of fantasy. Having said all that, however, I can hardly wait for the next book to come out and have started all over again with the very first Shannara book to refresh my memory and to make comparisons to the newest. I hope it won't be a long wait.

Summary: A Really Good Book
Review: When I read the Talismans of Shannara I found only one flaw. It ended. I read this book as soon as it hit the stores and was impressed. I thought that the book was a fine example of Terry Brooks' style and I enjoyed how it pick up soon after the time that Talismans ended. If you like the series or just enjoy a good read, get this book.

Summary: A strong return to the world of Shannara
Review: Terry Brooks, author of the bestselling Shannara seires which began in 1977 with 'The Sword of Shannara', effects a compelling return to the Four Lands with his new novel 'The Voyage of the Jerle Shanarra'. The novel begins with the discovery of a ravaged and tortured elf, aboard a tiny raft drifting in the endless swells of the Blue Divide. Clues to the indentiy of the elf, and what may have befallen him, spawn a quest which eventually draws together a diverse cast of characters led by the enigmatic Walker Boh; last of the Druids and the keeper of Allanon's trust. Without giving anything away, I can honestly say I loved the story and it is, without a doubt, classic Terry Brooks. The Four Lands breathes again in this novel, and the mantle of the Druids which Walker must bear, is a weight which brings a gravity to the proceedings I felt was somewhat lacking in the 'Scions' series of Shannara books which preceeded this new cycle of novels. Great characters, rich story-telling, and very compelling bits and threads of a much larger story are cleverly revealed throughout the course of the novel.

Review: I loved this book!! Brooks does it again. I have read most of the other Shannara books, and this one is in the top three. This book keeps you reading, and is a great fantasy for former fantasy fans, and those who want to read quality fantasy books. I definately recommend this book for anyone, especially Terry Brooks fans.

Summary: An idea whose time has come and gone--a long time ago
Review: I got this preview from Brooks' webmaster. I was excited to see if his exposure to the creativity of George Lucas might have shaken loose a sense of humor in Brooks, something he has always been severely lacking. The answer: not a chance.

Brooks has built a career by "borrowing" the creativity of others--Tolkien [Shannara], Pullman [Running with the Demon], Lucas [Star Wars] and now Robin Hobb and some of the other fae-fantasists. While the characters are certainly a little different [for which I awarded an extra star] the writing is the same clunking, lackluster prose he has always had.

Summary: Terry at his best!
Review: I loved this book! It's amazing how someone can write so many great books and still produce one like this. Walker is back, and his fued with King Allardon makes things even more interesting. The Isle Witch is an enigma that no one can figure out! New maps make this book, in my opinion, the best one Terry's ever written.

Summary: as expected
Review: Those of you familiar with the Shannara Series and Terry Brooks will not be Disappointed. Those of you not familiar with the series, I recommend starting with 'the sword rof Shannara'
