Summary: Amazing
Review: I just finished reading this book and WOW, I was blown away. This was my first Salvatore book and I liked the cover art and picked it up. I never expected the book to be as good as it was. This book includes action and it also has a great story. I found that I could really get into the characters. This book is a must read!!!

Summary: At first it seemed formulaic
Review: I mean we do start out with a Drizzt type fight, then go straight to a Cadderly/Danica style pair, and later we even meet a tall muscular Wulfgar clone.

Having said that the book is quite unique and the world, an early version of what becomes the demonwar sagas later, is reminiscent of irish fairy tales and bloody battles take place in a brutal early iron age society.

The overall tone of the book is dark, reminiscient of exile where Drizzt is traveling alone in the world above trying to find his way or the time when Wulfgar is caught by the demon lord.

But the characters are deep and memorable and the unlikely hero is unique and surprising. Dwarves in this work are like Fairy folk in irish fairy tales, hateful of humanity and mysteriously magical in their thirst for blood.

There's more far reaching elements too, when you look at the battle of religions, the oppression of peasants, the hatred for other cultures (even when they are actually more advanced).

I would urge to look past the formulaic elements to a unique and exciting work by one of our favorite authors.

Summary: Best Salvatore book to date
Review: I read a lot of Salvatore's book. I usually like them, because there are fast-paced, and filled with action. I didn't know a new book from Mr. Salvatore's was due out. I just stumbled across it at the library.

I didn't except so much from this book. But in the end, even though I was really busy at work this days, I managed to read this book in about a week.

This is in my opinion the best Salvatore book to date. It's really entertaining. Really fun to read. The characters are great. The conflicts between the 2 great churches are interesting, as is the political aspect of the universe. The world is really credible. There is no "bad guy" per say in there. Just people with their own hidden agenda. Human beings. And that's a good departure from the usual Salvatore novel

I sure hope more of the Highwayman is to come.

Summary: Not much of a fan for DW or Corona... BUT...!!!
Review: I was never much of a fan for the "Demon Wars" series after Elbryan (forgive the spelling, havn't read the series in quite a while) was killed off. I believe the last book I read was the one with the plague.
However, my wife likes the series a lot and is reading it all over again, and we happend to pick up "The Highwayman" and all I can say is... WOW!!!
I've only ever realy liked... even loved the Drizzt novels, but this new "Highwayman" novel blew my socks off. I was rooting for the Stork the entire time, hoping and waiting for him to beat his afflictions and well, I won't ruin it for those who havn't read it. All I can say is... if you haven't read it... READ IT!!! :c)

Summary: good but not great
Review: I've been a huge fan of Salvatore for a long time, but i feel like this book was pretty predictable in the general plot. To me it kind of seemed like Robin Hood with a twist. It was a great book as far as the action scenes. I don't feel that anyone can write action as well as Salvatore, but i just didn't buy the plot. A good book and a fun read but nothing mind blowing like the dark elf trilogy either.

Summary: I've read better
Review: I've grown accustom to R.A. Salvatore's ability to create life like characters such as Brother Francis, Nightbird, and Pony who are found in the DemonWars Trilogies. In "The Highwayman", the characters are mostly two dimensional, and with the exception of Prince Prydae, none of them are very interesting. Furthermore, I found certain aspects of the plot (such as how the main character teaches himself how to read a language he doesn't speak) difficult to buy into.

I also missed the narrative style that set the DemonWars saga apart from most other fantasy novels. In past books, Salvatore has employed an all knowing, sympathetic narrator who always did its best to show what both sides of a conflict were thinking, and that was almost nonexistant in "The Highwayman".

R.A. Salvadore is capable of much better work than this.

Summary: A fast-paced thrill ride
Review: In R.A. Salvatore's latest masterpiece, there is much more to appreciate than just Salvatore's awesome battle sequences and plots. The new characters that he has developed are some of the best I've read about in the fantasy genre in a long time. They have human problems, emotions, and feelings - and to top it off, Salvatore writes these conditions in such a way that you, as a reader, start identifying with them without hardly realizing it! Overall, this was a very well developed novel. It was fast paced, but it was in such a way that there were almost no points where the plots got dull and boring.

Summary: Can it get any better?
Review: It never ceases to amaze me on how well Salvatore can develop his characters. My first impression of this "Highwayman" was an aloof cheesy expectation........I was dead wrong. To my chagrin, Bob has yet to disapoint, granted it is a very quick read, but non the less a very good book.

Summary: Great Fun and adventure!
Review: Let me start by saying that I am not a complete Salvatore-o-phile. As much as I enjoyed his orginal Drizzt stories, the later ones have been done to death. There is nothing left to write that hasn't been written about the dark elf and I would recommend that Salvatore move on. Having said this, I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed the Highwayman. There is nothing new in this story, there are no deep revelations or Universe expanding messages. This book is just good, clean, swashbuckling fun. It follows the life of Bransen (the Highwayman) and his parents as they struggle with racial bigotry, bigotry towards the handicapped, and religious xenophobia. You will find no surprises in this novel, but you will cheer for a small handicapped boy as he learns to release the hero within, and see himself the way God sees him.

I had a great time and can't wait until Salvatore dishes up another helping of the Highwayman!
