Rating: Summary: Enthralling Review: Unlike many readers of this book I read Green Rider only 5 days before First Rider's Call came out in bookstores. I was elated to find that a sequel existed and even more enthralled by the book. I was impressed by the growth in all the characters especially Karigan, Zachary, Fastion, and the Captain. I also enjoyed getting to know Lil, other green riders, and the members of the black shield. Kristen Britain's writing style and stories are excellent. She has said that there will be more books in the Green Rider series; I only hope that they will come out sooner than the last one.
Rating: Summary: Excellent! Review: Kristen Britain's "First Rider's Call" is a sequel to "Green Rider", her outstanding debut novel. Reading "Green Rider" will certainly help you fully appreciate this wonderful second effort. In FRC, Karigan G'ladheon has finally given in to destiny and joined the Green Riders, a messenger/spy service. While on a delegation to the Eletian kingdom, Karigan and her companions are attacked by a mysterious spirit. With the delegation decimated, Karigan returns to Sacor City to report on the wraith and its peculiar focus on her personally. Magical accidents and attacks are soon occuring all over the kingdom and Green Rider magic itself begins to malfunction. And then things really start to go wrong when Captain Mapstone locks herself in her room. This is a truly enjoyable fantasy adventure, with strong characters and realistic solutions to problems (both magical and personal). Karigan's romantic trials are dealt with more fully in this novel, although readers are left with a cruel cliffhangers on several essential matters. These cliffhangers (including one in particular involving a certain king!) and the absence of the Berry sisters are my only real complaints about the novel, and I'm sure that will be solved in the next book. Buy this!
Rating: Summary: Fantastic book! Review: First Rider's Call, sequel to Green Rider, is really excellent. It continues the story of our favorite green rider, Karigan. After resisting the call for about a year, she finally succumbs to the wills of Lil, the first green rider. Although this book was somewhat less exciting then the first, it was definatly the better of the two. Karigan grows into a more developed charater as do those around her. The story focuses on the beginnings of the Green Riders, and the influx of magic that's effecting the surrounding land. The ending does not dispoint but is bittersweet leaving many issues unresolved. I'm personally looking forward to the next in this intriguing series.
Rating: Summary: Another Excellent Read Review: I have waited for this book for years and I am soooo glad it's finally out!!! This is another great work, just like Kristen Britain's first novel. Most of the old friends are back, and some new ones. When I picked this up it seemed like I had never left the world of Sacoridia and its amazing green riders. This book does leave a lot of ends untied, but that will make the next one so much the better. I just sincerely hope it's not another couple of years, I don't know how I'll take the wait! I really enjoyed this book and Karigan was as wonderful as ever. This book delves more into the past and is so incredibly interesting. So in short, this is another great read by Kristen Britain and it will leave you awaiting the next one with great anticipation. So if you loved Green Rider or just love science fiction fantasy books with superb heriones you must read this book!
Rating: Summary: AWESOME!!!! Review: I simply fell in love with Britains first book - Green Rider - and couldn't wait to read to sequal!! In First Rider's Call, Karigan is faced with so much evil from the past, and so much confusion happening to her in the future!! As I read through the book I couldn't help but get into character myself, especially with everyone of Britains characters!! I laughed and I cried in frustration along with Karigan and her friends!! As I finished the book, I couldn't help but wonder whether Karigan G'Ladeon's story was really through. I certainly hope not!! And I can't wait to find out if and when Britain will write the third book!! This is just too good of a story to let lie! And so much still needs to be done!! And I'm sure fans of Britain will also agree!
Rating: Summary: By far the best! Review: After reading "The Green Rider" a little over two years ago, I had not thought to find a book that could outshine it. It had such an original storyline with characters that seemed incredibly human. "First Rider's Call" certainly meets and even surpasses this high standard."First Rider's Call" continues Karigan's story two years after Green. She has finally, albeit unwilling, heeded the call and become a Green Rider. She must now contend with the harsh life being a rider demands and face the consequences of the magic unleashed two years ago. The D'yer wall lays breached and the evils of Blackveil forest are wrecking havoc on the country. No one knows how the repair the ancient wall though, because magic is a nearly forgotten art. "First Rider's Call" give some interesting, and at times startling, insight into Morhavon the Black. His rise to power and slow turn to madness is portrayed in interesting journal entries of Hadriaz el Fex. At first I was annoyed by these journal entries but as the book progressed they became more interesting and relevant to Karigan's actions. Many thought there should have been more developed between the King and Karigan but I felt the ending lent to the harsh reality that Britain has created for her characters. It lent to the set up for a hopeful third book in the Green Rider series. One I eagerly hope for. The surprising plot that never plodding or disappointed, the fantastic characters and the world created by Britain all make this book utterly fantastic. This is one not to miss so go out and read it!
Rating: Summary: ok fantasy Review: This book has a likeable heroine, but while Britain's writing is decent, it isn't good enough to totally draw me in (I must have gotten spoiled by George R. R. Martin). As a fantasy novel, it lacks originality - the idea of Green Riders reminds me of Mercedes Lackey, and no element was completely original and new. Having a historical story intertwined with the present action did add interest to the plot, but considering the length of the book I would have liked it to wrap up a bit better rather than so obviously leaving an opening for another sequel.
Rating: Summary: ready for more Review: Britain did a wonderful job in her sequel to Green Rider. Normally second books never measure up to the first, and yet Britain surpassed the first. In First Rider's Call, Karigan is older, more mature, and stronger. She fights the rider's call for several years only to give into the horn's call. What I liked about this sequel in paticular is that Britain added in a few laughs here and there to take away from the serious subject matter. Readers, get ready to find out just HOW Karigan answered the call. I loved the way the characters became more well rounded. The reader learns alot more about the king, as well as the first rider, and Karigan's orginial ancestor. There were several touching scenes (I got teary eyed during the scene where Lil said farewell of her lost green riders.) I don't want to say too much and spoil the book, but here's is just a brief on what's going on. Karigan is haunted by a ghost, Lil, the first green rider. Lil (a ghost)has been trying everything in her unearthly power to get Karigan to answer the call. Eventually, deparate to get Karigan going back to join the green riders, she blows the horn (famous horn that will summon all green riders). It works. Karigan arrives back to the city to offer her services to the king and join the green riders. Well, the king nearly falls off his thrown by the sight of her. No time for romance, because unfortunately, something is not right in the kingdom. There has been strange happenings. Karigan is sent on a mission when a powerful wraith is released from a prison. After 1000 years, it looks like the dark lord is coming back. This novel is well worth your time.
Rating: Summary: wow Review: wow! this book was amazing. when first it started talking about time travel i was alittle frightend, many books fail while exploring plots with time travel, but this author did an amazing job. I would recomend this book to anyone who loves fantasy and strong female characters
Rating: Summary: This was a good story Review: I really enjoyed this story a lot, until I got to the end. Aren't Zachary and Karigan going to end up together some how? I thought it was a horrible ending. Is Kristen Britain going to write another book?
