Summary: Roger Zelazny's crowning work
Review: A definitive and original work of fantasy, this book comprises Zelazny's ten Amber novels. Drawing elements from Celtic myth and branching out from there, to Alice in Wonderland and beyond, this work is a truly delightful read - the Amberites are a terribly Machiavellian lot but all the more entertaining for their squabbles. Filled with wry humor and a fascinating cast of characters, this book spans two generations of the Barimen clan (Corwin, and his son Merlin), each of which were initially five separate novels. The two halves of the book have a very different flavor, and I confess I enjoy the first more than the second... but they are both interesting in their own way. In any case, a unique work, and one that should delight any fantasy reader.

Summary: Enter the Shadows!!!!
Review: If you even thought you liked the aspect of Shadow and Amber you have to read this!!!!! All of them in one!

Personally.....I think Llewella should be Queen. She's cool!

Summary: On the desert island list
Review: If you had to pick the top five fantasy series ever written, Zelazny's Amber (especially the Corwin books #s 1-5) would be definitely be included. A large, ancient, and powerful royal family is competing for control of their homeland Amber, which is the center of a universe that spans all the known worlds, our own modern reality being a shadow world of Amber. Although it crosses into modern settings, the core of this story is derived from classic fantasy. The members of the royal family share unique powers and loyalties; the intersection and opposition of these elements provide plentiful material for this long series. Zelazny managed to bring many new concepts to this genre that have been copied shamelessly by many of his successors. Required reading for all lovers of fantastic literature.

Summary: Complete, at last!
Review: No more looking for old paperbacks of this great saga - in this compelation, all of the Chronicles are included, although I would not recommend reading them all at once. As a matter of fact, skip the last 4 parts. Other than that, this is Zelazny at his best offering the curious everyday wonders of the sci-fi world beyond. I recommend it for hardcore sci-fi/fantasy readers as a great introduction to Zelazny.

Summary: Fantasy at its absolute best!
Review: I found this series in 1986, in the library of my community center. They were a pair of hardcover books, which over the course of time, became extremely worn from reading them over and over again. I also enjoyed the story of Merlin as he hunted for his father after the last battle at the Courts of Chaos.

Roger Zelazny's style, wit, and excellent characters will be sorely missed.

Summary: Forever in Amber
Review: I share the opinion that this is one of the best fantasy series of all time, and the first storyline comprises my favorite storyline of the last few decades. I waited months for this collection, and the story is certainly worth the wait. However, before buying this book you need to be aware that the type is rather small, which in my case is a significant point for consideration when deciding to buy a book of this size.

Summary: The Ultimate in Sword and Sorcery Fiction
Review: An amnesia victim awakens in a private hospital. He soon discovers that his keepers do not have his best interest at heart. He engineers an escape and begins to search for his identity. He discovers that he is Corwin, Prince of Amber, and claimant to the vacant throne. Corwin's quest of self discovery becomes in turns a quest for self aggrandizement, for revenge, to right terrible wrongs he has done, and finally to save the very fabric of the universe. This quest consumes the first five books of the "Complete Chronicles of Amber," and a rousing tale it is. Corwin has supernatural powers, but he is not the cardboard, two dimensional hero so often encountered in "Sword & Sorcery" fiction. Corwin is a complex, conflicted hero capable of great good and horrible evil, who experiences a spiritual transformation as the story progresses.

In the next five books, Merlin, son of Corwin, describes his search for his missing father. Whereas Corwin was a man of action who solved problems with his sword or his fists, Merlin is more cerebral. He is also a magician. Merlin has adventures every bit as fantastical as those of his father, and the story ends with Merlin in the most paradoxical situation imaginable.

Zelazny published the first Amber book in 1970, and the final volume came out in 1991. He obviously intended to continue the series because the chronicle abounds with unfinished business. Corwin's new Pattern never got explored. The nascent threat of Ghostwheel was never resolved. Frakir was left tied to a bedpost. It is unfortunate that these loose ends will never be tied up.

Roger Zelazny writes of unforgettable larger-than-life protagonists engaged in epic struggles, and his powers of description are nothing short of poetic.

Summary: Amber Series by Zelazny
Review: This series should appeal to lovers of science fiction, fantasy, and the collective unconscious (or, if you wish, New Age spirituality). Based on travel through an interesting use of the Greater Arcana tarot, it's a swashbuckler (as another source has said!) and always offers an interesting story. I always _liked_ Zelazny's world of Amber, although occasionally the story seemed to lag oddly or to repeat itself. I haven't read one in years, and my memory isn't good enough to give specifics. Zelazny is always worth the read, however.

Summary: Fantasy at its best
Review: Zelazny was one of the first sci-fi/fantasy authors to have his works become "classics" The Amber series is an excellent example why. He's a much easier read than Tolken or Bradbury, therefore his works are accessible to a wider audience. This compilation is great, the original books were very short, and while this great tome may seem daunting at first glance, you'll find you can't put it down until it's finished.

The worlds of Amber draw the reader in and keep you entranced until the concluding volume. Zelazny's use of first-person narrative in the beginning of the series helps the reader discover the intricacies of Amber along with the main character, something that is rarely done well, and definately not as well as Zelazny does here.

This collection is great for the true fantasy buff, but also an excellent portal for the casual or novice reader.

Summary: Captivating and beautifully written!
Review: I actually give this book 10 stars! I would not call myself a reader of Fantasy stories, but I absolutely fell in love with the Amber series. I have not read much else by Mr. Zelazny but from what I have read, this book tops the rest by a mile and a quarter. His words enchanted me from page one and I was to the point where I had a difficult time putting it down at night before bed. The worlds that he creates though his words come seemingly to life within your imagination with each flip of the page and you begin to feel the intense power that is holding you to the tale. Though I feel that this may not help with finding the perfect book for you, I think that you would regret yourself emencely if you let such a wonderful book go unread. Plus! For 10 books combined into one, $16 is a deal of a lifetime! Please don't pass this book by! It is the most enchanting story that I have ever read and believe that many of you would enjoy it also.
