Rating: Summary: An interesting opening to a forgetable trilogy Review: This book starts like most sword and sorcery books with a character that starts small but gains power and enemys as the books go. It started a long tradition of huge problems that just seem to fix them selves that last through the entire series. The story has some very interesting ideas which made me the reader incapable of stopping(I read the intire series in four days). The only problem that I saw with this book is that the author made jumps of understanding that as the reader i did not agree with. some of the things that happened in the also had this problem they made sence only because the author said they did.
Rating: Summary: Liked it A LOT!!! Review: I will definitely read the rest of the books in this truly compelling and highly imaginative series. Different from most fantasy novels, Assassin's Apprentice has created a richly detailed world where character development is a priority. I loved the Fool and Chade, and hope to read more about them in the next book!! Congratulations on a great read!
Rating: Summary: powerful character deveopment. Review: This is one of the finest examples of character development that I have ever seen. The series is bittersweet at best, but fascinating. The best review that I can give this is that I have re-read the series 4 times since its inception; sometmes you find a series just that much better than average...
Rating: Summary: Unforgettable. Review: One would think on first sight of this book that it would stand as an average fantasy. It surprises, from the very first sentence it is uniqueully different, with excellent character development and plot. Keep it up.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely, without doubt the best series I have EVER read! Review: The Robin Hobb series, "Assassin's Apprentice" is without doubt the best series that I have EVER had the privelege of reading. The author simply astounds me with consistantly superior work. You do not get a feeling of a constant building to a climax... rather, the entire 2,000 or so pages of the entire series is a continual climax that never stops. I could not stop from reading this series, and one of the many reasons is that there just was not any "low spot" to leave off on. My entire life stopped for this series. In fact, my life WAS the series, for a time. Seriously! I have never fathomed such incredible, absolutely INTENSE intricacies. The scene was constantly played not right in front of you, so that you may watch, but rather around you, following the main character, Fitz-Chivalry, around and about any and EVERYTHING he did. You did not feel sweet sympathy for Fitz in his immense (and seemingly endless!) troubles, but rather a deep, intoxicating EMPATHY for him. His troubles were your troubles. His pain was your anguish, as well. His elatedness (however rare these periods were) filled your very SOUL with joy. And at the end, you stand with stupified awe at the absolute superior skill... I repeat SUPERIOR skill, of the author. You now sit and ponder whether this breathtaking story... no, experience... you have just undertaken. Could this journey you have shared have been drawn out of the brilliant mind of a single man?
Rating: Summary: Captivatingly wonderful!!!! Review: This first book of the Farseer series is a must read for anyone! It is an extremely good introduction to all the characters and the land of the Six Duchies. Hobb's writing style of creating characters that seem to pop out of the page is delightful - Prince Chivalry doesn't even make an appearance but her account creates a vivid image of the legendary prince.A pass-midnight-but-can't-put-it-down novel. Bravo Miss Hobb. Bravo!!!
Rating: Summary: A very good book with a very real character Review: This book was one of the best books I've ever read. It has lots of action, interesting magic and a good plot, but the main reason I liked this book was the realism of the character. I am 14, and I found I could really relate to him when he was around that age (except for being an assassin). If you are deciding whether to buy this or not, all I can say is that you'll love this book. If you do read it and you don't like it (not much chance of that) you can e-mail me a very cross letter.
Rating: Summary: They need more than five stars! Review: Robin Hobb absolutely blew me away with the Assasin series. Not since Donaldsons "Covenant" Series have I yelled out loud at a book. I found myself unable to put this book down much to the displeasure of my family. Everyone to whom I have recommended this book to has come back to me with an emphatic "Thank You!" I just wish I could find some of her earlier work under the name of Megan Lindhom. (Hint Amazon.com!) Keep up the great work Robin. Also try the Liveship series. As of the typing of this letter the first book is out and it is a very good read as well.
Rating: Summary: Highly entertaining, and highly recommended! Review: This is the first Robin Hobb book that I have read! It was one of the best books that I have ever read. Mrs. Hobb has a love for her characters that is shown throughout the book, especially in Fitz. Not many authors these days have that magic with their characters. Its as if thay were allready there, just waiting for the right person to tell their story. Well, they did. Great job Mrs. Hobb.
Rating: Summary: Great Fantasy and more... Review: I think these books were incredible. I think that people that want to understand how teenage to young adult men think, this is the book. I was very surprised to find out that the author was in fact female. The descriptions of the author were so vague that I had no idea. I assumed from the author's knowledge of how guys think that it was a man. A wonderful story. Tragic in it's own way, but uplifting in another. Some of us don't know why exactly we have had the (dis)fortune that we experience, and these books personify that. A wonderful read.
