Rating: Summary: Not quite the pace of the last books but still a good book Review: The only dissapointment I had with The Path of Daggers was that Mat was not present at all-after the cliff-hanger of an end in A Crown of Swords I was expecting, and hoping to find out what happened to him with the Seanchen. Althought the pace of the book was slower, the characters were more defined and the plot was substantially (almost too much more) complex. Maybe not as easy a read as the last seven it was still a great book. I can't wait until the next!
Rating: Summary: PoD leads up to one of the great climaxes in the WoT Review: Anyone who has read this series from the first book to the current (PoD) can appreciate the subtlety with which Jordan writes. Although this book is not filled with the incredibly exciting events that characterized some of the earlier novels, it is setting up one of the best books in the series. In the next book the war for Tar Valon will happen. Masema will meet with Rand. We find out what happened to the Aes Sedai captured near the Black Tower. This book brought everything to a head and should be considered in the overall story arc as a set up novel. Robert Jordan is doing something that has never really been done before; he is setting up a world that is fully fleshed out. He is creating an ENTIRE world and if some of it seems a little dry at times it is because we all have tendencies to like some parts and not others, but we get the entire world in a nice package if we want it.
Rating: Summary: A Satisfying Weekend Review: PoD, like all of the WOT series, is immersed with creative imagery, enticing plots and a wonderful medium in which to lose yourself. Unlike the preceding books however, it lacks character development and the story lines, which normally progress quite nicely, are slowed to a crawl. Many of the characters are in the same standing at the end of the book as they are at the beginning. Despite that, I gave this book 4 stars. It is just as intriguing and entertaining as the first book, and like all of the rest I will read and reread it over and over. Besides, Robert still has credit from the preceding books. And to all of the cynics out there, you wouldn't have read this book if you didn't like "something" about the preceding. This book has that same "something", that is so hard to explain. If it's not up to the usual RJ standards, neither are all of the other books that are being released today. Keep up the good work RJ.Eagerly awaiting the next,
Rating: Summary: now he's really due for a good one! Review: After reading CoS i was disapointed. It hurt to read a great series and then pick up a stinker. But feeling every cloud has a silver lining, i couldn't wait for PoD. After all a writer as good as R.J. would only write an entire book of prologue for a really good reason. PoD came out and I finally had it, the gem I had been awaiting. then i read it. Another 700 pages of prologue. That's about 1500 pages of building up. Please R.J., Please give us that which we desire. Show us the way, for only you know where this is leading. Please end the prologue and start the book. Just in case you ever read this R.J. here are a few things i never want to read about again: stout shoes, chewing or pulling on braids, domani dresses, and helmets looking like insects. That's enough salad Mr. Jordan, give us a T-Bone!
Rating: Summary: Where does it ends? Review: Having waited for one and a half years for book 8, am beginning to wonder when it will end. Not that I really want it to, it's just that there are so many unanswered questions, and new characters are continually being introduced. In an attempt to be up with the play, I re-read the whole set before starting on Volume 8, and depending on the time frame for the next book, will most likely have to read it again. Volume 8 of the Wheel of Time, did not satisfy my thrist for answers, but created more! An excellent story, hard to start, hard to put down, and now, hard to wait for.
Rating: Summary: Slow & Boring Review: I've really enjoyed the series, up till now that is. The first 3/4 of the book was some of the most painfully slow and boring work I've ever read. I want to know how this series turns out, but if the rest of the books are as bad as this, I'll quit now. Mr. Jordan seems to have become self-obsessed with hearing himself describe every little detail. While this may help us get a better feel for this world, it bogs down the story. Spending an entire page describing what 10 women are wearing is not captivating reading. I'd also like to see the cast of characters thinned down. With a year between books, it's impossible to remember the thousands of minor characters. Mr. Jordan, unless you've got a character with an interesting story to tell, don't introduce them! I also found Mr. Jordan's repeated insights into how men & women don't understand each other very tedious. I've heard it already, move on to another topic! I hope Mr. Jordan reads this and some of the other critiques, because he is quickly losing a very loyal audience. I used to look forward to the books coming out, not anymore.
Rating: Summary: Here is my prophecy!!! Review: The Wheel of Time will be remembered as one of the greatest epics ever written. Even though not everybody can appreciate him for it now!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: More like a Dagger in the back. Review: I have now made myself read all eight of Jordon's enormous books and still have not found one character I can say I truly care about. What even surprises me more is the great reviews he has gotten in the past as well as the comparison's to Tolkien which are a complete travesty to the fantasy genre. The only thing that has kept me reading his books is the wonderfull concepts and great description that Jordon applies to each book. If he had characters with more depth then I could honestly say this series was a classic but sadly he has written another flat book in a tiring series. I would recommend anyone looking to see what real characters are like, combined with great ideas and description to check out George R.R. Martin's, A Song of Ice and Fire, which is the best series of the decade and the only fantasy series I would even mention in the same breath as J.R.R Tolkien.
Rating: Summary: Boring Review: He's so far of the story. Bring back the 3 heros. Quite with all these female yinnning!!!
Rating: Summary: Hoping for better to come Review: I just finished reading this book, and I have to say that I am quite disappointed. For a series as wonderful as the WOT has been, I expected more. I hope that Mr. Jordan will find his focus and get back on track with the storytelling skill he dazzled us all with at the beginning. Regardless, I'm sure I'll still read book nine... and ten ...
