Rating: Summary: responding to A reader from Canada , April 25, 1999 Review: yes, but... Tolkiens books were bad, so I fail to see the point or correlation. For the slow ones out there... Tolkien=horrible writer.(all books sucked) Jordan=Great writer(had one bad book) There's a difference.
Rating: Summary: Somewhat Tedious Review: This is a very fantastic series, but this book will put to you to sleep. The characters continue to add up which makes it next to impossible to figure out who's who in the field of secondary characters. Jordan continues to supply us with an over-abundance of extraneous information. This book is a must if you are a diehard fan. If you start out with book 8, you will be totally lost.
Rating: Summary: Good but not as Great as Previous Books Review: Ok this review is more pertaining to all of Mr. Jordans Wheel of Time series. These books are the most well written books I have ever read. Some peopls reviews say that it is boring at times and I say to this what do you expect every page to leave you spell bound or breathless? Well it isnt going to happen no one can write like that and mantain a story that makes sense you have to go slow at parts and take a break from constant action. Sure parts have been boring compared to others but thats no excuse to be little the entire book. Those comparing him to Tolkien in writing are foolish. writers have their own style by comparing him to Tolkien you are saying be more like this fellow and less yourself and that, of course, would be wrong. I have read tolkiens books and really liked them but had to really push mysef through some parts of it due to the slowness of events but i understood them and pressed on till the end and was extreamely satisfied with the outcome. All in all i consider The Whell of Time series the best series i hav ver read bu tthats my opinion take it or leave it I will not be swayed.
Rating: Summary: Give the guy a break will ya!!!! Review: I've read all Wheel of Time books and a bunch of the reviews here. And here is what I have to say. 1) You don't have to be blindly loyal to be a fan. His last book was NOT his greatest and it WAS kinda of slow compared to the rest. but... 2) He is building up to something. Something BIG! A REAL fan would not immediately dismiss him because of a slow book that did not meet your expectations. Who do you think YOU are. This series promises to be the best Fantasy series ever written. He BLOWS away Lord of the Rings. Personally, slow book or no slow book, I can't wait to read the next, and the next, until the end. Jordan is a smart guy, and he wont bore his audience. Give him a chance to fulfill his role as storyteller, and let your self be amazed by it. Its just a BOOK, so stop criticising. Just read...
Rating: Summary: The story seems to be moving too slowly. Review: I enjoyed the book, but not as much as the previous books in the series. I feel that there will never be any closure of the plot. I really enjoy reading Mr. Jordan's series and look forward to the next one. This latest one seems to just review many of the situations that peviously had been outlined and covered. I look forward to the story line moving along, and finally bringing this long, enjoyable venture to a conclusion.
Rating: Summary: Nothing Happened Review: I waited for so long for this book to come out and when it did, I was ecstatic. But after reading it, I can't believe I was so excited. The only significant things that happened were only mentioned in passing (i.e. Elayne's retaking of her throne). I hope the next one is better.
Rating: Summary: Not great, but good, plus some good hints on the next book Review: This book was not great, or up to the standard of some of the books Jordan has written. There were definetly a few boring parts in the book when it just dragged along. Also, what was with the borderland leaders in the prologue? But aside from this, this book was good. It kept me well interested, with many developments, like the Seachan campaign in Altara, the full takeover of the rebel Aes Sedai by Egwene, the capture of Faile (although the rest of Perrin's campaign was kinda boring), and the unraveling of the gateway by Elayne. There is great foreshadowing for the next book. What will happen with the attack on the White Tower? What about Mat? Will Rand untaint saidin? Will he even heal his two possibly mortal wounds? Will more Aes Sedai swear for the Dragon? What about the rest of the Seachan in Tarabon and Amadicia? The next book has the potential to be the best book so far.
Rating: Summary: Time to find a new series Review: I have enjoyed every book in the series except this one. I expected more. Now wait until 2000 for the next book? Perhaps not! I believe it is time to find a new fantasy series. When this series is finished, say when my 5 year old gets to college, I can begin again.
Rating: Summary: Let's let the guy finish Review: I don't think anyone can honestly say that this book is bad until the next one, or even the rest of the series has been written. Any single one of Tolkien's installments to Lord of the Rings is not itself a masterpiece of literature, just as a single movement of a symphony is not a great work in and of itself. It is the whole that counts. We complain now that Jordan's series has for the last two books entered a "slump", but doesn't any work require breaks in any kind of continuous action? Let's not forget that a work of this magnitude will hopefully entertain readers for years to come when we complain that this book's dull or its "taking too long".
Rating: Summary: A Disappointing Addition to a Great Saga Review: This book was a big disappointment. Unfortunately, Books Seven and Eight of the Wheel of Time have been the weakest entries in the series. What's worse is that the waits between books have been getting longer. Which means that the momentum that had been building up through the first six books has slowly faded away. The only silver lining for Wheel of Time fans is that this book ends with promise. If Jordan can't deliver the goods in Book Nine, it will be clear that his reach exceeded his grasp. Fans expect more after such a long build-up than countless pages describing a trip to a farm, or women squabbling like hens. Give us something to get excited about RJ! This just ain't gonna cut it!
