Rating: Summary: Jordan passes on his chance to be mentioned with Tolkien . . Review: I understand that Robert Jordan has been offered a large amount of money to write each book. If so, this explains why the series is really going nowhere fast. I thought that the first and second books really put him in a position to be mentioned at the same time as JRR Tolkien -- a true master of the fantasy genre. Obviously, that is no longer the case. Whether from greed or a severe lack of creativity, Jordan has lost his touch. There are some good chapters, but overall this book is a serious disappointment. Lots of words, little resolution. At this rate, he'll be writing this series for another decade. If you must read it, don't buy it -- borrow it from the library.
Rating: Summary: He's dead, Jim! Review: Quick, somebody call an editor
Rating: Summary: NOT ONE OF HIS BEST, BUT IT IS A GOOD ONE!!! Review: I HAVE READ ALL EIGHT OF TWOT BOOKS, ALL OF THEM HAVE KEPT ME UP LATE AT NIGHT BECAUSE I COULDN'T PUT THEM DOWN!! I WOULD SAY TO THOSE WHO COMPLAIN ABOUT THE LAST BOOK,"YOU MUST NOT BE A DIE HARD FAN". JORDAN HAS DONE IT AGAIN! I MISSED MAT IN THIS ONE BUT I'M SURE HE'LL SHOW UP IN #9. I'M WAITING {NOT PATIENTLY I MIGHT ADD} FOR THE NEXT ONE. EACH BOOK LEAVES YOU HANGING AND THAT'S THE BEST PART ABOUT THEM. I THINK THAT WITH ALL THE CHARACTERS, OLD AND NEW, IT'S ENOUGH TO KEEP YOU INVOLVED. TO KEEP THE WHEELS TURNING IN REGARD TO KEEPING THEM ALL STRAIGHT IN YOUR HEAD. AGAIN ANOTHER EXCELLENT ONE IN A LONG LINE {I HOPE}OF MANY MORE TO COME.
Rating: Summary: Another huge letdown... Review: I was anxiously awaiting this book, as I had been doing for the previous two. Another letdown, I must say. I actually purchased the hardcover version of this novel in anticipation of the forthcoming events. In retrospect, I can't remember one significant thing that happened in the book, as far as the major plotlines go. DO NOT purchase this book...take it out of the library or something....it was a complete waste of paper.
Rating: Summary: Very good innstallment , but no the best Review: Well , what can one say that has not been said already ? Not much. Still , let me share my views with you all. First , I truly believe that the TRUE fans of this series would NEVER slaughter this book the way some do , not by half. In my view it is a very good fantasy-book , though not the best in the series ( my favourites are books 4 and 6 ) . My biggest disappointment with TPOD was that it was too short ( I wanted it to be 300 pages longer ! ) and lacked a climax at the end. But what is the case here ? We have been spoiled by Jordan`s masterful books and so we expect brilliance at every turn. When a book comes along with rather less action but great development in plot and characters many whine and critisize. Well , read your other fantasy epics then , though I doubt you will find anything to equal Jordan`s outside of Tolkien and a very few others. And think on this : if TPOD had ended with the attack on the Black Tower followed up by the attack on the White Tower in a suspensful climax , everyone would praise the book as a masterpiece ! Still , I love this series and eagerly await book 9 ( "The Broken Seal" ? ). Jordan`s many plots must soon come to fruition. Myself I wonder especially : is Taim Demandred ? ( I think he is ) ; is Moiraine despite everything alive ? ( she has to be somehow , does she not , since Min`s viewings never are wrong ? ) ; does Lews Therin reside inside of Rand or is he simply mad ? ( I believe a combination of the two ... ); who is Moridin ? ( one of the dead Forsaken come back - male or female ? - or a new one ... ); who is Cyndane ? ( it can`t be Lanfear , can it ... ? ); is Arangar Ishamael come back or Aginor perhaps ... ? I look very much forward to the coming attack on the Black Tower , the battle for the White Tower ( and Elaida`s downfall ! ) , Mat`s reemergence in the series ( but still , why whine so much because he is out of one book ... ? He`ll be back ... ) and his travel to Seanchan where he meets the Daughter of the Nine Moons , and above all the cataclysmic finale at Shayol Ghul with the Battle Ajah , Ashaman , Aiel and Dead Heroes following the Horn of Valere against the Forsaken , Dreadlords and the Dark One ! What a climax that will be ! So let us eagerly await the next book in Jordan`s magnificently detailed series - and above all : there IS no doubt - The Weel of Time WILL be THE epic masterpiece of american fantasy ! Us , the TRUE fans , will never abandon Rand , Egwene , Nynaeve and the other characters we love no matter what ! And you who whine all the time : be gone , and read your other supposedly better books ! We will stick to Jordan`s great story. "The Weel of Time forever !"
Rating: Summary: stop whining!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! from casey of new york Review: Robert Jordan has provided the world with perhaps the greatest work of fantasy ever. The world he has created is unsurpassed in detail and complexity and the characters are as loveable as any. Those of you who say that the series is at a standstill and that jordan just want money obviously know nothing about the books. The reason the true fans of this series are hooked is because of its complexity, and then all of the sudden when each book is more all encompassing and interesting you all whine that it is going to slow. These books are not interesting because of the awesome fight scenes(and they are pretty awesome) but because of the diversity and complexity of the books. Those of you that say it is going to slow obviously need to pick up a little culture and learn what it is that makes a goog book. As I read PoD I was as enchanted and enthralled as ever by the doings of the characters. I do not think that the plot slowed down at all, it just became more interesting, and those of you that do, dont appreciate jordans work for what it is!
Rating: Summary: Robert Jordan lost his story Review: What a pity. When it all begun, it had been a good story. Nice charcters, great ideas. The women's character's have always been a bit weak (tugging at braids and skirts and sniffing all the time), but who cares? The Forsaken, Ta'veren, Aes Sedai... thrilling indeed. Now he's lost it. Jordan seems to have lost the read thread alltogether. I have the impression that he himself does not know anymore where this shall all lead to. A pity indeed. My suggestion: Read George R. R. Martin instead.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: Its been about a 2 year gap between reading book 7 and reading PoD. I can honestly say that in these two years, I have forgotten most of the storylines and characters. I have ceased caring for them. Everything has gotten so complicated and boring that keeping up with this series has turned into a full time job. What started of so magnificently and with such great promise has crashed and burned. And it continues to burn. I hope that Jordan can display some of the magic he had in the first 4-5 books and rescue this series, even if it means ending it and not milking his fans for all their money.
Rating: Summary: Excellent as usual-but leaves you hanging at the end.. Review: excellent...can't wait for the next one to find out what's going to happen.
Rating: Summary: Jordan is faced by difficult questions Review: Very simply: The story has become too big. Too many characters, everything takes too long to happen and there's no end in sight. Comparing PoD to Martin's Game of Thrones brings out the flaws nicely. Game of Thrones has a thick plotline, characters you love and carefully woven story. All this in one book. Can Jordan boast something similar with any of his books after say, The Shadow Rising? Jordan's vision has failed him. The idea of a grand epic with detail like no other book has had so far. Jordan has his arms full of stuff and unless he lets some of the junk go, he won't make it. Many branches should be cut to get this series on the right path again. If Jordan really goes for it and returns to what he did in tEoTW, it will feel forced. It will feel awkward, but I have hope in Jordan. After the initial shock, he should be able to pull it off. One of the finest tales in fantasy deserves to be finished, with as much grace as it's still possible. As for the book: read it if you are hooked to the story, but I wouldn't get it from a bookstore. If you are new to the series, let the dust settle. Read Martin, Hobb, Jones, whatever you wish and after a couple of years check out what Jordan is doing.
