Rating: Summary: A very good, important book. Review: This is one of my favorite installments in this brilliant series. I know that some people did not like it because they felt it moved to slow, but I feel that the intrigue is just as interesting as the battle scenes. Any author that completely fills his work with "action" is, in most cases, little more than a poll watcher. This is not how great, or even good works are written. Do what you need to to fulfill your vision RJ, and I for one won't mind how long it takes . . .as long as you live long enough to finish :-p.
Rating: Summary: Very bad. Review: I notice that many reviewers have high hopes for book 9. After reading the slow-and-going-nowhere plot of book 7, I too had high hopes for book 8, thinking Crown of Swords would lead to something great here. I was very wrong then, as this book was worse than the previous one, so I won't be entirely surprised if book 9 will be even more terrible. I'm not even sure if I will read it. At least I have the earlier books to enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Jordan is making the storyline crawl slower and slower Review: I love the Wheel of Time series. I have been a most loyal fan. But I am starting to feel some frustration with the series. When the first book came out I couldn't put it down! Things were happening and the prophecy was being fulfilled. However, I've noticed with each new book that comes out the story line slows down more and more. I swear this last book covered about 1 week in time with no end in sight. I would love the story to continue but not at this pace. Also, the characters didn't seem as full as in previous novels. The previous books made me feel each characters pain and desires - the characters in Book 8 seemed flat and distant. Let's hope Book 9 is more rich and full of life - otherwise let's end this story.
Rating: Summary: Don't crucify me for the four stars, but... Review: Robert Jordan has decided not to satisfy action starved morons by making this book an action packed 30-page story in which Rand gets his little Ter'angreal, gets Egwene, gateways off to Shayol Ghul, kills the Dark One, goes back, marries all three women in the Aiel style. No, instead, he took on the much, much, much larger responsibility to create a world. Yes, worlds have more than 10 characters. Yes, in worlds, people can have irritating personalities. In worlds, thinks take time to resolve themselves. I do agree with critics that Rand is a stale character, and I often find myself more interested in other characters' motivations than his. Well, I'll buy book nine anyway.
Rating: Summary: Just started to make for the second climax in the story Review: Robert Jordan has been putting a lot of work and thought on this story. It is so detailed sometimes it gives the feeling that even he loses track of it. So it is quite normal to get lost among those names. I think he gave the gradual improvement of the personalities very well. The characters were new to the world around them and the world didnot know about them before. This caused the Pattern to be affected by them easily. Later on especially in the last two books the Pattern accepted them and they found their places in their own society. This is why things are going a bit more slowly. I don't know if Mr Jordan thought that way but I think he gives the Pattern of Life well and his characters continue to live. It is life and the Wheel weaves. Path of Daggers is a turning point for the upcoming events.
Rating: Summary: Like vintage wine Review: if you whiners bother to reread the whole series, you'd find that POD continues the pace Mr Jordan set at the start of the series. he's even started tying all the threads of the story and gave some hints as to the future of the series. AND THAT IS: the wheel of time is meant to be savored like great vintage wine....slowly to the last enjoyable drop.
Rating: Summary: Patience is a virtue Review: Like most of you I was disappointed with this "work". I have spent countless hours reading this storyline only to watch the plot advancement slow to a crawl. I am also becoming confused with the overload of minor details as well as character names and roles. The series has started to test my patience, but I still have faith. Robert Jordan has provided me with MANY hours of enjoyable reading that I am truely thankful. I am not going to turn on him now and I will see this series through. Although I think that Mr. Jordan needs to realize that the patience and loyalty of his readers are not never-ending resources. Keep your fingers crossed for book 9.
Rating: Summary: Super! Review: Only The Triumph and the Glory held me as spellbound as The Path of Daggers. Robert Jordan has topped a remarkable series of books with his best novel yet. I was very, very impressed with it.
Rating: Summary: This book is like your sophmore year.... Review: It's right in the middle and completely forgettable. I really enjoy this series but boy it's dragging. Nothing monumental happens here, and there is NO information on Mat ( same thing happened with Perrin in a previous installment, errrr). I had actually re-read all the books and vowed to NOT read this until the series was finished. I ordered the book and left it in it's mailing box for months, then had to take a cross country flight and took it along. My advise to anyone out there who is into the series is to wait until the NEXT book comes out then read them both at once, you add to the chances of something substantial happening to move the gang along. One question before I go - What is the DEAL with the women in this series? They are so annoying it's getting hard to care what happens to any of them (except maybe Min). I hope they actually get fleshed out and more believable going forward.
Rating: Summary: can't wait for book 9 Review: i read some of the other reviews on the book and i don't know why they had such negatives reactions. the action did slow compared to the other books but that's to be expected because there are less prominent enemies and also because we've seen the whole world of robert jordan. part of the allure of the first few books was the various cultures that our heroes encountered and blended with. now we basically know the whole world and it's a bit boring. but i thought this book was great as a set up for book 9 because of the unfinished plots(with callandor, egwene, elayne, traitors from the black tower.) so i think book 9 will be one of the best in the series if robert jordan can tie some of those loose ends. oh, if your not a great fan of nynaeve and elayne, then think you'll find this book tedious since a great half is dedicated to them. i personally like them so it was fun reading for me.
