Rating: Summary: nothing happens!?!!!? Review: I waited a long time for this, and nothing happens! Since I've really enjoyed the series (overall rate it 4 1/2)I'll read the next one, but, I too will look elsewhere if subjected to 800 pages of fluff.
Rating: Summary: The "series" is a wonderful work of fiction. Review: [This is more a review of the series as a whole.] All those who say we should stick to just reading Tolkien remind me of movie critics who say every plotline has already been done, and everything else is just imitation. Even if that was true, it doesn't mean the original was the best version possible. There's always room for improvement. I have read the Lord of the Rings and I actually think Jordan's characters are richer and fuller, with a depth to their background as well as all societies presented that makes the reader care more about the characters. For those of you who say that they are all "cookie cutter", try reading the whole series, the interaction and description of how they feel towards one another makes the story come to life in a realistic fashion. Those who say that Jordan is 'too' wordy probably would be better off reading the constant action of some other "works" of fiction that will remain nameless. They obviously can't handle the massive scope of the story unfolding. Granted, the last two books are somewhat slower, but if they weren't we'd still have people complaining about Jordan smacking the characters into some new situation out of nowhere with no setup. The setup is not only necessary but also a beneficial part of the whole story.
Rating: Summary: The pace is slower, but it has so much more to offer.... Review: PoD is more blurred than the first books, and it seems like half an installment to me. But there is one thing it seems to offer that the others don't: hope. While Rand seems twisted past all recognition--truly the Dragon, now--we know that he is still a good person at heart, and that there are many, many people who want to help him.In the first books I loved Rand. He was considerate, almost brave, retiring, and responsible. But now he is so self-centered he refuses to see the sacrifices other people make for him. It seems like he's had a complete personality reversal. The excuse offered for this is saidin, the male half of the True Source's taint twisting him--'twitching, hopping, skittering'--but that's all it is. An excuse. Rand has gone from a sympathetic lead to something more than a little frightening. I would say Rand's rather convincing madness was a stroke of genius on Mr. Jordan's part, if it weren't for the fact that most of the other main characters have suffered the same fate. Inconsistant plotting, Mr. Jordan. You can write as many books as you like, and your die-hard fans will probably continue to read them. But you will make us hate both you and your story if you don't wrap it up soon. We're insulted; it looks like you don't believe we'd know the difference between a well written tale and a poor.
Rating: Summary: Enjoy it. Review: Yes, yes, yes...this one doesn't have the fast-paced action as, say, the second book. But it does set the stage for more to come. I think that everyone's so upset because it took him so long to finally come out with another book. He can remedy this problem by coming out with one this Christmas. (I HOPE) I've read all 8 books in the past 4 months and none have disappointed. While I wait for the next WOT installment, I'm going to read Jordan's other (smaller) series The Fallon Chronicles. What can I say? He's good.
Rating: Summary: Not worth the wait Review: Since reading the first book of this series, my life has changed dramatically. Now with a family and bigger career, there is not enough time to be wasted reading this much fluff. Mr. Jordan, please get to the point. Your core fans will have outgrown this series before you wrap it up. You'll need good recomendations to get new readers. Let's see if you can make it hapen.
Rating: Summary: I'm Ready for the NEXT Review: HOW IN THE WORLD CAN YOU BE LEFT HANGING LIKE THIS!?!?! This is the best setup book, and the next book will be the best one EVER. This is only chapter 8, not all chapters in a book are as good as the others, but they all lead up to something, and this chapter is leading up to a HUGE next chapter of the best "book" ever! :)
Rating: Summary: Worst of the batch Review: Taken as a whole the series is great, but this book truly degrades the integrity of Jordan's work. With a series already 8 books long and apparently a few more on the way, the law averages would dictate that some of these books will stink in comparison to the best books in the series. Jordan however has rolled out 2 consecutive bombs, that have somehow lost the fervor contained within the first 5-6 books. Seeing that the series will last at what I have heard will be in the neighborhood of 10 volumes, Jordan needs to recapture some of the intensity of the first few books. Then I will not look so harshly on these last 2 volumes, but instead think of them as some test of pain or mental stamina.
Rating: Summary: *cringe* aweful Review: i honestly can't think of one praise i can give to this book. all my complaints have already been laid out by other frustrated reviewers already. ill probably read book 9, but if things don't pick up, i'm through with this series. what a shame. it had such a promising beginning.
Rating: Summary: You will abandon... Review: after reading this boring drivel, i've decided to abandon this never-ending soap opera of a series.
