Summary: Engaging, but oh so slow...
Review: The WOT series really could have been one of the best--a true classic, if only RJ had settled on, say, six books instead of twelve. The plot started losing momentum after book four, and is REALLY slowing down now. As much as I enjoy the characters and the world RJ has created, I'm more than a little frustrated with the ever-slowing pace of the story. Not much happens in POD to push the plot along. Hooked as I am, I won't quit now, but I'm not certain I'd recommend the series to someone else at this point--at least not as wholeheartedly as I used to. Perhaps the final three books will change my mind, but nothing short of a serious abridgement will return WOT to "classic" status. Too bad.

Summary: The Grave Is No Bar To Its Call
Review: And the blind ones that rated this book did get devastated by the Lord of the Morning. And the lost ones who mocked it did get burned by the fire of the Lord Dragon. And the Dragon did come back in the next installment to further his battle against the Shadow. And the Shadow did get burned by the heat of the Light. And the Dark One did fall in Book 10 by the hand of the Creator himself. And the Blight and the Blasted Lands did fall back by the return of the tree-men. And Lews Therin Telamon, Rand 'al Thor did fight Tar'mon Gaidon and destroy the Dark One...

Summary: slow and uninteresting
Review: the first books where very good, the last few have gone downhill quickly i think mr.jordan is drawing the series out for money reasons

Summary: the wheel of time needs a little oil id say
Review: RJ seems to be quite lost as his caracters become more and more transparent as their world becomes an unending soap opera (days of our lives?) Rats, i really liked the first ones, he worked hard on them, the last ones just seem uselessly diluted. Oh, and really, please stop citing Tolkien, there are two very different categories here (MacDonalds vs a fine french dinner, id say)

Summary: Phenomenal
Review: This is the best book that I have read in the summer. My brother recommended book one to me and I have continued to read the other parts of this 12 book series. I can't wait for Part 9.

Summary: The slowwwly-turning Wheel of Time has broken spokes....
Review: The slowwwly-turning Wheel of Time has more than a few broken spokes. The series has devolved into pro forma hack prose marked by totally stagnant plotting. Even the normally-annoying misogynistic female characters have turned BLAND and only irritate out of habit, as it were. If there is a pattern here, then the next one should probably be entitled Road to Limbo . . . .

Summary: unbelievable
Review: Robert Jordan has stunned and amazed me. His series grown richer and more complex as time goes on. The detail in which he writes lets the reader grasp and imagine the scenery and feel like he has known the characters in the story ever since they have been alive, like childhood friends.

I cannot wait to read from book 9. I will agree that PoD leaves you hanging with nothign complete and only more problems...but, when isn't there a problem in the WoT. The only problem I had with it was, no Mat. But that can even be looked past.

Summary: Does not stand alone, but it is not supposed to.
Review: I read this novel the day it came out, and while i agree with many people in that the book can certainly not stand alone and be a good book, but it doesn't have to stand alone. This book is another book in this ongoing series, which makes this book 5 stars. As a reader stated before, this is epic fantasy. This series has enthralled me so long and so deeply, I would die if it was as skimpy as Lord of the Rings. This series is long, but not every page must be action and violence. Every page contains suspense and each page is put there to lead up to something later on. Many of you seem to want this series finished all too soon. Please let Mr. Jordan finish his work, and then, judge the final product. To judge so harshly on only one book that is part of a series is unfair. In order to become so attached to the characters and the world of the Wheel of Time takes time and I feel we should all give him time to complete the series before we cut to criticism.

Summary: How much?!
Review: I've finished reading the book, after I have waited about a year and a half, and I have been greatly disappointed. Why does keep doing that? Aren't there enough characters, plots, sub-plots and mischief for several parallel universes? I love the series, know it by heart (as any human light-loving being can) and I hope that RJ will bring us a big (obviously), finale that will leave us with wide-open eyes. I certainly hope so.

Summary: This series is amazing, and is just building up.
Review: I was recommended the WOT after I read Terry Goodkinds SoT series. I was engrossed from the beginning. I quickly read all of the 7 books and then got the eighth in hardcover. The depth and complexity of this world that Jordan has created is astounding. I anxiously await book nine.

When I look over all these reviews, I wonder if these people actually read the book. Look at any of the 8 books and you'll find high action, romance, and all the things that make a great novel. So Mat didn't appear in this book, SO WHAT? He's off somewhere, and he'll probably be a major part of the next book.

This series seems to be losing quality. I'd wager it's building up. I bet the Last Battle finally comes in the next two books. Just like The Phantom Menace, this book is building up to something, and is being critisised for it.
