Summary: Not the Best Sequel yet
Review: The Path of Daggers is a good book. I felt that in the Wheel of Time every book improved in some way from the one before it. This one didn't. It still had the action I liked while reading the Great Hunt, but it was very repetitive. This book was a transitional book setting up book nine. It was shorter than most at only about 21 chapters as opposed to over thirty in other books. I have hope that things will improve, Jordan said he thought of the ending of the story before the begining. If not, than we will all know that he is just in it for the money now. But still overall the Path of Daggers is still better than Terry Goodkind.

Summary: Good, but less better than Crown of Sword
Review: The Path of Daggers is a good book, but I think that the earlier books have been better. That's because I think it happens to little in this book. Rand does'nt even kill a Forsaken. And there's nothing at all about Mat. Yet, all Jordans's books are enjoying to read and Path of Daggers is no exeption. I'm looking forward to the next book.

Summary: To be crazy or not to be crazy?
Review: Path of Daggers was good but slow at times. I think it should have gone farther with the story lines started in it, but I'm sure Mr. Jordan has something big in mind for Book 9. For some reason I was really bored reading the chapters to do with Rand. Is he going crazy or no. There was a big mood change for him from Book 7 to this one, I hardly felt as if I even knew him, but after he reunites with Min things get better. All in all good reading, I just wish it continued on longer...now I have to wait for book 9........YUCK! I hate waiting!

Summary: The path of daggers
Review: I love Robert Jordan's The wheel of time book. It keep me suspense to know what is going to happen to the characters of his book. I can't wait for his 9th book. I will read on and on until the end of the story.

Summary: great
Review: I think WOT is the best Fantasy world that I ever read. The characters are described so that you understand why they are doing what they are doing.

So many people are coplaining about the the many details but if you read it carefully you see how they hint at future events. I hate waiting for the next book for two years just as much as you do but a 800 Page Book takes some time especially with so many characters and storylines. I can't waint to read the next book.

Summary: Why the disappointment?
Review: All right, so it appears that volume eight of the WoT series doesn't quite measure up to general expectations. It focuses on minor characters, it lacks memorable action and the personalities of the protagonists are growing to be static almost to the point of charicature. Should we confine it then to the category of 'worst recent titles belonging to the fantasy genre'? Maybe not. I think the reason for so much disappointment is that our expectations concerning Mr.Jordan have rocketed so high that we expect to find in every new book of his series that thrill we had back in the days of 'the Eye of the World' and its immediate successors, when we just started discovering the world he created and the characters that populate it. Mr.Jordan was never a careful writer, so why expect him to magically turn into one in volume eight? He has always been long-winded when it came to details, so why are we complaining that he should change this and be more succinct? Volume eight is in my opinion a natural outgrowth from all the preceding volumes. It can't fail to fufill any promise, because we only imagined that there even was a promise of better things to come. I do not expect literature from Mr.Jordan; I expect a nice long read with a chance to rediscover the host of characters that have become real to me through his books. PoD is therefore satisfying to me despite its fallacies, and I would suggest that no one who is willing to accept the author's standards of writing be put off by the negative reports. If you hunger after something better, reread those Tolkien books that are probably collecting dust on a shelf somewhere, for heaven's sake! Meanwhile, appreciate PoD for what it is, not for what it is not.

Summary: Better than expected
Review: After reading other reviews of this book, I expected it to be slow and uneventful. However, I found it to be an excellent read, with my main criticism being that it is too short. I enjoyed the further developement of plot and characters and wait eagerly for number 9.

WOT Rules

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: This book as part of the WOT series
Review: I have seen some mixed reviews and would like to give what I think is a response to the extreme opinions or maybe just a discussion of plot. I WILL GIVE AWAY PLOT. I have just finished THe Path of Daggers which is the 8th book in the series. I read the other seven books as well. Many people have complained that after the first five or so books the series was of lesser quality. I have seen complaints about the portrayl of women also and on the other hand have heard that Jordan does write strong female characters. To address what other reviewers have said: I know from my own experience, working hard to write stories that have interest and to find publication that it is HARD work. I see many people complain that Jordan does not write fast enough. My suspicion is that much of the time between the release of books is the responisbility of the publisher and is taken up by production and marketing and digging up those illustrators for the rather generic fantasy covers (the illustrator actually drew recognizable objects from the book on the version of POD that I have but the rest were cheesey.) Anyway, it probably takes a good writer some preparation time which would differ greatly on how much research is needed and then I guess no more than six months to actually write the story, some time to edit (It's not entirely the author who is to blame for obvious typos in the end result, which there have been.) AS for pace within the story: I see what the problem is I think. If Jordan were to ever ask my advice or anyone in his situation I would say this, "When you beginn the first real chapter of a book do not tell of events long prior to the ending of the previous book, don't spend time on villan POVs when you can fit more of hero POVs and how they suspect, detect and deal with villans or do not detects, etc. And though in some cases it is desireable and interesting to tell of a long journey if one is uneventful tell only of the relevant part with little lead in and then skip to the next important thought ot action even if you have to say, 'and three years later they .actually discovered the villans in their midst,' or such." character traits such as licking lips or pulling braids. This is how we know characters even when in disguise. I am convnced Dashiva is Asmodean who was Natel but that he doesn't show his former love of music much, but it would explain why Natel just isn't around anymore. The braid pulling gets to be a bit much sometimes but well may as well have Perrin never thumb his axe nor Rand ever take his sword belt on and off while stressing over females. And as for female characters...being a female and of an age with Nynaeve roughly, I wish to say it IS true that women can be very girly and concerned about clothing even when their life is in danger. It doesn't make one weak to like fashion, only girly. And if not for the plot device of being a major Ta'veren I would wonder why female characters flock about Rand so, being he is pretty wool-headed. But, being a device has introduced to explain why practical strong women could suddenly be goo-goo-eyed there's really nothing for it. Having girls saving half the world while still managing to attain immense wardrobes is just as likely as men saving the world between gambling, drinking and carousing night after night. I think that even with detail and style intact each installment could be longer...some books have had thousands of pages and others nearly half as much so they are hardly evenly spaced. Perhaps having the last two books in one or the last three split in two would have been better, but it is done, it is not always easy to know when to quit. AS for characters missing from books I'm sure long-time readers will recall that many mnor characters show up again after several books and Perrin and Mat have been pretty much left out of one book each. But Mat is not dispensible because we know he is going to Marry the daughter of the nine moons. And so in the 9th book it may very well begin: Mat fondled his raven-marked spear thingy and looked for Olver as Thom flipped a knife from his sleeve and Seanchan flooded the port of Ebu dara...' Of course that is at least two weeks before the ending of the previous book...and consistent with Jordan's pattern. Of course Mat has to meet up with them eventually so he can discover the Court of the Nine Moons is of The Seachan Blood and a daughter of such would be quite interested in a man who actually remembers the time of Hawking and speaks the Old Tongue, we have read the Old Blood is strong in the Two Rivers. And most likely Galad will show up momentarily in Gheldan or somewhere and maybe even recognize Morgase who has been take as gai'shan. And Gawyn will likley show up in the environs of Tar Valon and be torn between the tower and Egwene...maybe she will realize she never used to have headaches before "Halima" showed up to soothe them and Rand will realize where the remaining Forsaken have been hiding. It's a good book for part of a whole but hardly a stand alone.

Summary: I cannot go lower than one?
Review: Apparently my first review was far to strongly worded so they cut it. Nothing happens in this 'cash cow'. Extrememly disappointing.
