Rating: Summary: The Path of Daggers Review: The series is great, this book is so-so. I think he is building up to something. Plus I think the 3-star rating is a bit skewed. If you look at the end of the reviews you find alot of 5-stars from people who hadn't even read the book. Hmmm... Maybe we should rate it with 2 instead.
Rating: Summary: It's Way Past Time to End This Madness Review: How long must this Series go on? Mr. Jordan seems intent on taking what should have been a Trilogy (ok, 4 volumes at the most) and turning it into a Baker's Dozen of books.Nothing original here. It's the same old, same old, again and again. Rand almost goes mad again (surprise, surprise) but can't quite get over the top. What a shame to see an excellent premise turn into a sham by churning out meaningless book after meaningless book.
Rating: Summary: Long time Reader! Review: Hi All! I have to say that I first started this series back in 90 or 91 (?). A wonderful story that takes you to another world for a time. Where you feel a part of the story. I got the chance to meet Robert Jordan in 97 at a book signing, very exciting for me! But probably a very long day for him! Remember, like in all great stories you will have ups and downs, action and planning. We were taken on a roller-coaster ride with the first 6 while the characters developed, and found themselves. Finally, to cement themselves into their rolls with the 7th and 8th (although it would have been nice to see a few plots come to an end!). With some much still up in the air, the 9th book could only be what none of the first 8th could. The best book ever! That is a lot of pressure for a writer to take. I am assuming that is why it has taken two years for this one to come out (I believe it took two years for 8 to come out because RJ took a break from writing Fantasy? ). After nine years or so of reading and rereading the story (each book, except the last, five times) I do get impatient for the next! For those of you trying to get through the 8th, take your time with it. Because book 9 may be the best you have ever read! I hope!
Rating: Summary: Mr. Jordan, please heed my plee! Review: To: Robert Jordan From: His frustrated fans Mr. Jordan, Less is sometimes better. If nothing significant is happening to a character or group of characters, then please do not waste pages writing about them. I have read all the WOT books, so obviously you have me hooked, but I don't know how much longer I can take it! The plot line that is selling these books is the adventures of Rand and his compatriots, not, those god-awful, boring Aes Sedai characters. Speaking for myself, and every WOT fan that I have conversed with, we would be much happier with a 400 page book that moves along at a reasonable pace than a 900 page monstrosity that, at times, I feel my eighth-grade english teacher is forcing me to read. If you want to keep this series alive for another few books, you're going to have to change your ways or you'll find your fans have fizzled out!
Rating: Summary: Bad Review: This has been said before, but I'll say it again to voice my extreme displeasure at this cash cow. If I can give zero star, I would. Read the 1600 reviews below, saying that this book is terrible is an understatement. Nothing happens to progress the plot, does Mr. J. still remember that the last battle is coming amidst the henpecking women, smoothed skirts and tugged braids? Well you know what I mean. Probably I'm still going to buy the next one (still a sucker at how things will turn out), but no more hardcovers, this time I mean it. R.S.
Rating: Summary: Loved the book but hated being left hanging Review: Loved the book but Robert Jordan left me hanging with no book 9.
Rating: Summary: hmm Review: This was an interesting book. After having read some of the reviews on this book, I think I have isolated one of the real problems with this book. The writing in this book is much more advanced and complex than Robert Jordan's earlier works. Many readers who were entranced with "Eye of the World" will find this book dull and hard to understand. On the other hand, the fact that this book will be above many people's reading levels is not a reason to give it a low rating. It was written very well and you really got a sense of what the characters were going through. It was not the best book in the world though. Despite the number of people that have compared Jordan with Tolkien, Tolkien's plots are well planned enough to make even "Path of Daggers" look like "Harry's Day Out". It was however a wonderful book.
Rating: Summary: Oh what a tangled web we weave Review: Though well written and well detailed, Robert Jordan lost his magical touch he had in the first six novels. Jordan' problems are that he creates too many plots and charaters without following through and he does not want to let go. His storyline his now so scrattered, that as a reader, I can't see how he can bring it(plots and characters) all together in the next novel. If the next novel is as "The path of daggers" in the end, he'll not only lose Rand at Shayol Ghul, he'll lose his faithful fans as well. Can the Dragon be reborn in his next novel? I do hope so.
Rating: Summary: Not full of action, but still worthy of Jordan Review: Shame on everyone who is saying that because of this book you will never read the WOT series again. After writing seven of the best fantasy novels ever you are now so quick to drop him because this last book didn't "move fast enough for me." I will admit that not as much action took place in this book as in the last seven, but it wasn't ment to be action filled. This books perpose was to futher the plot to the next leval so that when the ninth book comes it will be great. Robert Jordan has established such interesting plots and characters that he needed to use this book to stop and sum up all of the story lines to get them ready for the big event, which is obviuosly coming in the next book. In my opinion Robert Jordan is still one of the best authors writing today. And to all of you with short attention spans who need continuous action on every page I am sorry that you are going to miss the last books in the best fantasy serious ever.
Rating: Summary: Short, slow but moments of hope! Review: The three rating is one that implies mediocricy. This book though, although well written will be largely judged by its plot. On that ground the 3 out of 5 is fair. The developments are interesting but too slow and they incremented marginally over the last two books without any climax. A good read particular towards the end. Don't expect any major surprises. Robert Jordan has his work cut out with the next book in the series, titled "Winter Hearts". Lets hope he saved the best for last.
