Rating: Summary: Worst WoT book Yet Review: I started reading this series about two months ago, and got deeply hooked in the first few books. Then, the quality degenerated rapidly. The novels got shorter, and the plot development by page went down. Trivial matters are given dozens of pages while the important issues are either put into a paragraph or stretched out beyond belief. If you've already started, you might as well read to this one, if anything will put you off the series, this is it. If you haven't read WoT, I would recommend you read the first book, then stop there since the ending is conclusive, and you won't have to read through the pages of drivel inherent in the later novels.
Rating: Summary: don't stop Review: I liked this book, not he best in the series. Needed an ending and it was sad and disturbing compared to many of the other books in the series. I guess life sometimes can be like this. You start out on a fun teenage adventure knowing everything and as you go along things get very complicated and you realize that you don't know much.P.S. I hope this series never ends and each book gets longer with many more characters and plots. Maybe Rand can go back in time to the first age or even to another planet!
Rating: Summary: Could be worse Review: Although I agree that "The Path of Daggars" was a little slow, I think that it was laying an important foundation to come. In a saga this huge, you cannot expect everything to be utterly perfect. Exercise a little discipline for heaven's sake. Jordan is not through yet. I do not doubt that what comes next will be as breathtaking as anything that came before. I, for one, am nowhere near ready to throw in the towel. Since Mr. Jordan is willing to put in the vast amount of effort needed to make this series come to life (and it does), I am willing to put up with whatever framework he considers essential to completing the story. Once the series is finished, I have no doubt that all the information presented in these two books about which so many people complain will be used to the utmost. Remember that with Jordan, no detail is insignificant, no matter what it may seem to be at the time. By the way, does anyone have any idea when book 9 will be released or what the title will be?
Rating: Summary: The Wheel Needs Mending Review: A friend of mine has been bugging me to read a wonderful series that he had read: The Wheel of Time. Up until this book I whole heartedly agreed. Don't get me wrong, this is still a wonderful series, but this last book is not up to par. (I read the whole series in under a month, skiping school to do so.) This book focused on two unimportant, and nearly uneventful, journeys when there were vastly better ones that needed telling. Mat Cauthon, recently showing his importantance, is in dire need of aid and doesn't even get a chapter! Rand is begining to have sevre problems and isn't even in the book until it's nearly halfway done! The ending doesn't even qualify as such! It looks like he simply ran out of time and tried to put some closing remarks in as quickly as he could to tie up so lose ends and he didn't do it very well at that! I understand the need for filler or plot advancement on occasion (Mind you, I'm seeing the end of the series nearly twelve more books in the future. So much for Rand having next to no time to prepare!), but due to the lengthy descriptive that I've come to see in Robert Jordan's books (Is he trying to make it as long as possible? All description, little advancement.) This book does little to further the plot. No need to buy this book unless you're a die hard fan or need it when the next book comes out for a few details; trust me, this book can be spoiled with one paragraph. I hope the next book is truly outstanding because I think time the sense of urgenency that was so prominent in the previous books is all but last. After all, why be jumping around as fast as you can when you can wait around for weeks or months doing nothing afterward? And the forsaken are practically being reborn right after Rand kills them. The Dark One is definitely winning. P.S. A little beef I have: Why would anyone in the Age of Legends go to all the effort of making the Waygates and Portal Stones if they could Travel? Portal Stones require so much of the One Power and so much knowledge that they're useless next to Travelling. Waygates also pale next to Travelling.
Rating: Summary: Not as Good as Past Books Review: I had been waiting for over a year since the last book which was pretty good. The latest Jordan book was a little disappointing. I feel the author did a lot of stretching with unnecessary detail. I would have prefered more action between the Dragon Reborn and the bad guys magical or military would have suited me.
Rating: Summary: If you are still reading Wheel of Time--STOP Review: Honest, the first four books of the series are readable, by book 8 (this book) there are so many characters that you don't care about with descriptions that go into AGONIZING detail about thoughts that you don't care about that the book doesn't even get to the main characters (I think Perrin had one chapter, Mat maybe got a paragraph when someone thought about him).
Rating: Summary: Disapointement yet again Review: I found the Eye of the world a great but Jordan's later books don't seem to advance the plot at all! I just hope Jordan's next book will be more interesting then this one.
Rating: Summary: Path became clogged Review: I have to admit that I approached this series from a unique perspective. I started reading it in October,1999 and completed it in January,2000. As I was reading I wondered how I would be able to leave the series and wait for the next installation. That was until I read Path of Daggers. This latest installment was so slow-paced and more narration than action, I lost the zeal to continue reading and though it was the shortest almost by half it took me the longest time to read. Though in comparison to the others this book fails to measure up, it is still a vital addition to the series as it serves to add a few new elements and reacquaints us with old elements. Unfortunately I'll have to echo my fellow reader and reviewer and inquire as to whether R. Jordan is being paid per word, not only did we get a very short book but according to the prologue we only received half of the book. All in all though, any true fan would buy this book because though alone it fails to measure up, it is a spoke in the Wheel of Time, that alone recommends it to WOT fans. ps. do not start with this book, do like me and buy and read all 8 books in succession.
Rating: Summary: Hopefully Better Next Time Review: In Short: You can skip this volume, pick up the next one and not miss a thing ! I've read every volume in "The Wheel of Time" epoc and have enjoyed each one until now. As much as I hate to say it, when I finished reading "Path of Daggers" I felt I had totally wasted my time! There appears to be gobs of extraneous 'pros' that add nothing to the characterization or plot - an attempt to bulk up the book ? In typical Fantasy fashion, the book splits apart into its seperate story lines, which is fine, except the story lines never reconverge or even interact. Worse, they barely advance the plot at all! If quality of this volume is the future of the remaining volumes then its time to end the series. I wish I could return this book and get my money back plus reimbursed for the time I wasted to read it.
Rating: Summary: Five stars for the best fantasy book of the last year Review: I am a big fan of Jordan although my interest ussually go more toward the classics of 70's sci-fi. The Wheel of Time got me hooked since the first volume, Path of Daggers just keeps with the good work and helps to continue the plot. A lot of things happen that i needed a friend to remember me of a couple of characters i have forgotten, Jordan has the ability to never forget anyone no matter how small their part is in the history and just when you no longer remembered them they return with a bang. My opinion, buy the whole series and lear to gnaw your fingers while waiting for the next number. I really hope he ends on the next three years because i'm getting mad of just waiting for the next chapter in the saga.
