Rating: Summary: What just happened? Review: I picked up the series less than a year ago and finished book 8 a month ago and I can not even remember what of significance happened in the path of daggers. It must of been a challenge to fit a chapters worth of information through-out 100's of pages. I stand watch at night sometimes from midnight to 4 am and the book did keep me awake so it can't be all that bad it does keep you busy.
Rating: Summary: Come On ! Please resolve some of your many threads ! Review: I agree with many of the critiques here noting the lack of plot movement. Seems as if Jordan has created so many sub-plots that the main plot gets lost in the process. If he just gives 1/8 of a chapter to each sub-plot we never reach one of the main characters until 1/4 of the book is gone. That is exactly what happened in POD. Repeat the process and only 3 chapters in the entire book are devoted to one of the big 3 characters (Rand, Matt or Perin). No wonder NOTHING happens in this book. So why do two bad books warrant 1700 + reviews. Because like many of you, I was captivated by the first 5 books in this series. I care about when, who and if the song will be found. I would like to read about Perin and the broken crown. I want to know about Matt and the Daughter of the Nine Moons. Actually, there are laterally hundreds of questions that Jordan has raised in his last 7 books that I would like to see answered. Some of these questions were raised 8 years ago ! I can think of only 1 major thread that Jordan finally resolved in this book. ONE lousy thread answered. Come on ! Mr. Jordan, make a list of the HUNDREDS (this is no joke) of outstanding issues that you have left to write about. In your next book, I would like to see 1/3 of them resolved. Kill off or don't write about all of the insignificant characters that you have developed. Maybe then you can make my Must Read' list again.
Rating: Summary: Trying my patience Review: Years ago I truly enjoyed Jordan's Wheel of Time books. The first few volumes showed great promise, but in my view, the quality has been deteriorating. After finishing The Path of Daggers, I had the same feeling I had after reading A Crown of Thorns: I was amazed that the author had managed to fill 700 or so pages without very much happening. I'm finding Jordan an increasingly undisciplined writer, lingering needlessly over various subplots without notably moving the overall story forward. I am also finding the characters stale and increasingly uninteresting (particularly Rand, who seems to do little but rage at everyone). Although some people admire Jordan for giving women a prominent role in his story, I am getting fed up with his corny war-of-the-sexes style of portraying relationships between men and women. Although I'll probably read the next installment, if there's not much more improvement he'll probably lose me before the end of this saga.
Rating: Summary: Dissapointed Review: After such a long and painful wait for the next book in this great series, I was totally disappointed. As I read I kept hoping the story would pick up the pace but it never did. I won't be waiting for the next book with as much anticipation. I think Jordan is just writing now to get books on the shelf.Maybe he should wrap this series and start a new one, he is a very talented writer.
Rating: Summary: Reader loyalty poll, not a book review Review: The book stunk. It failed on its own, it failed as part of a series. The reviews are entertaining, however, although some of them miss the point of a specific book review. I was amazed that one chowderhead actually gave this book a 5 star review, because he/she has heard "good things" about the NEXT BOOK, even though the last 2 were "slow." After reading a considerable number of these reviews, its obvious that the hard core Jordan fans want to give this book a good review because of the earlier books in the series, or because they hope the next one (or two or ten, etc.) will be better. Face it folks, this book stunk. Your loyalty is no doubt an economic boon to Mr. Jordan, but the fact of the matter is he lost interest in this series long before you did. The reviews of this book were skewed at the outset by rabid fans writing reviews BEFORE THE BOOK EVER CAME OUT, and now the rating is being skewed by more rabid fans (or maybe the same ones) giving 5 stars to THIS BOOK because they hope that the NEXT BOOK will be better. THIS BOOK should have a one-star rating.
Rating: Summary: Sympathy for the Devil Review: Speaking as an evil villain, I feel that the great Lord of the Dark has been getting a bum rap in these books. Hey, c'mon, he's been walled up for eons; how would YOU feel? Some of my best friends are Myrdraal; although I don't care much for trollocs unless they've been well-cleaned before cooking. Rand et al seem like very intelligent people; why can't they see that the Darkfriends have their best interests at heart? Judging by the way this book is bleeding to death I'd say the Darkfriends are winning. Is Terry Brooks ghost-writing this episode? Snore....still it's a rich, deep fantasy world, even for an omnipotent superman power-trip. Take a chance, Jordan. DO something soon. You're drawing too much tainted saidin from your 'fans.' Finish it, THEN compare yourself to old JRR.
Rating: Summary: Good but not the best Review: As many people have stated this book does not advance very much, unless you look past the cover page and start to think about it a little. The major plot lines are not adressed as well as I had first hoped, but some new twists have occured that will make the next book alot better. This book has gotten away from the Rand vs. the forsaken, which is good since it was getting old. Instead Rand now has more enemies(some the last anybody would suspect)that do not serve evil,is suffered his first defeat and betrayal by people he thought were loyal. This book is not quite as good as the rest but it is still filled by Jordan's great writing.
Rating: Summary: Please let it end Review: When will poor Rand be allowed some peace? Path of daggers was quite a good read, but it felt like too much of the same old thing. Lets hope number nine is out soon,so I don't feel compelled to slog through itagain, just to pick up the plot.
Rating: Summary: Yawn. Review: This is an installment only a hardcore WoT fan could love. Some other reviewers have talked about world-building and how it takes time and imagination to make a believable fantasy world, but eight books and counting is getting ridiculous. One more like this and I am going to quit this series(Really!) and re-read The Lord of the Rings to remember what a real fantasy series is all about.
Rating: Summary: Worst Yet Review: I just finished this book and I feel that it was the worst Wheel of Time yet. I was immediately hooked by The Eye of the World and obsessively devoured each book since then. Halfway trough this book I was bored to tears. Absoutely NOTHING happens in this book. My favorite carachter Mat is only breifly mentioned. The plot goes absolutely nowhere. Get on with it already Jordan. I'm starting to wonder how long this series is going to on. At this rate I think we're looking at at least 12-15 volumes in this series if the plot keeps advancing at this rate. None of the major plot points are even addressed. Before I started reading this book I actually said to myself that Egwene better realize Halima's true Identity or I would be very disappointed and sure enough I was. If I hadn't ivested so many hours(and so much money)reading the other seven I'd Have quit halfway through. Iexpect alot more from the next edition.
