Rating: Summary: This book really let me down! Review: After so long a wait I was really expecting something much better from Jordan. It seems to be a few short stories combined together. And the lack of Mat in this book is horrible since one of the first things that happens can be directly related to him... I hope that the next book doesn't focus almost entirely on him because of this. Though I believe his story may well be 10 times better then tPOD.
Rating: Summary: it's a great book...stop complaining Review: I honestly don't know why some reviewers are so upset about this book. You know Jordan is a puzzler and likes to leave things out to make us wonder. You have to know he'll put all the pieces together for us by the end of the series. After all...he's known the last scene of the last book since the very beginning. Just relax, he'll get there.as for plot: I agree that it's a little slow..but things are picking up intensity in the plot overall. Elaine and the windfinders used the bowl of the winds...that is just awesome! I'm sure that with more books in the series things will iron themselves out.....I'm enjoying the book immensely.... the series just keeps getting better
Rating: Summary: Could have been better Review: I think that this was a Seinfeld book, a book about nothing. Most happenings in it were minor, and Rand has been turning a little more dark, almost to the point of being unliked by most. I am interested in what happens in the next one about Tenobia and other Borderlands rulers from the prologue, but I will have to wait for 2 years to find out. I am wondering if anything will change that, like fan complaints... I am mostly giving it 3 stars because I like the series.
Rating: Summary: Worst book in the series. This book does not stand up. Review: I was very disapointed with this book. After waiting years, nothing hapens in this book. It jsut drags along. Everyone just teleporting from one place to another, and getting no where. Rand dosent apear untill chapter 13, and then has mabey 4 chapters, Perrin has about 2, and Matt none. Nothing hapens to move the story along at all. There were a few good scenes in the book I will admit. If you love this series like I do, you have to read this book, then you have to wait with much longing to book 9. If you are new to this series, start at book one. The firest 5-6 books are wonderfull, take your time and enjoy them like I did. Then join me in the wait for the next book that hopefully will be what we were waiting for. Path of Daggers should have taken about 4-5 chapters to tell. Jordan is still then man, and I beleave he will make it up to us.
Rating: Summary: A lot of words, but nothing happened Review: Fans of the series could skip this book and never know the difference, because the trend established by the last couple of books in the series continues... A lot of pointless chatter and very little action. Elayne and Nynaeve chatter mindlessly for most of their portions in the book (which seemed to be half the book). Perrin wanders aimlessly and accomplishes nothing. Rand worries about going mad and talks to Lews Therin some more. Mat is hardly mentioned and never appears. Egwene hassles with the Hall some more. I just hope Robert Jordan isn't milking the series. At least the end of the book contains some action and provides a good setup for book nine. Unless you must have the hardcover edition, wait for the paperback. Or just read the last chapter or two; they contain the only bits of any consequence in the entire book.
Rating: Summary: Stagnation and Daggers Review: While I waited with trepidation for Book 8 (two years worth), I learned finally that the book would come out on Oct. 20. I naturally reserved a copy with my local bookstore, and when the day came about, I got the book and went home. I tried to limit myself, but I still finished it in two days. This book is stagnant, much more so than CoS was, because in that book, you still had major character, storyline, and plot development. Now, I'm sorry to say, the book is the worst of the series, and there is really no major plot developments (barring two or three). If I were to advise a reader on it, I would say wait till it comes out in paperback, or get it from your local library. Don't waste twenty bills on it. I am a diehard fan, and it really pains me to say this, but the book was almost a waste of my time, and a disappointment. I'm probably going to get heat over this, but it's my opinion. Some of the plotlines that I thought were going to develop didn't, such as the Galad one, and others that I knew about developed over the course of a few hundred pages (Elayne, Nyn). Too much time, too little return. Honor's truth. About the only positive outcome from the book coming out was that I was able to pick up a new, hardcover copy of CoS for 4 bucks. Again, ignorance is bliss with this book. Don't waste your money.
Rating: Summary: This book will be good in 2000 Review: It's evident to me that the Path of Daggers is a buildup for the next book. Once anything reaches a peak of action in this book- Elayne finally reaching Caemlyn, etc.- it is never talked about again. This means that Book 9 will start with a constant stream of action, but it also means that Book 8 really doesn't have much in it. It also meant that Book 8 has *nothing* about Mat! Mat was the one character who was truly involved in events, and he wasn't even in the book. The only thing I thought was really great in this book was the chilling portrayal of Rand- it leaves you wondering how much longer he can hold on. But does Rand do anything interesting? Not really. All in all, this book is like the prelude to Book 9; not a problem in itself, but since Book 9 is an estimated 2 years away, I felt slightly disappointed. I know that anyone reading this book in 2000 can just hop over to the library when they're done and check out Book 9, but all the loyal RJ fans are going to have to wait 2 years for the 'real thing.' But unlike all you critics out there, I'm not worried. My patience will be vindicated when Book 9 is published.
Rating: Summary: The Wheel is missing a few spokes Review: Jordan is going nowhere very slowly. While the book was decent nothing really happens. If you want to read a GREAT book pick up George R.R. Martin`s "A GAME OF THRONES". He makes Jordan look like an amateur, and that is saying a lot because I really like W.O.T.
Rating: Summary: Nice Prologue!!!! Review: If it was'nt for the first 7 books I would have put the book down after the first few chapters. It seemed to be a transition book. A lot a build up with no resolve. Jordan better start wrapping things up or were looking at another 8 books and 10 years. I love the series but I'd like to finish it before I grow old and die. By the way is Mat still berried in Ebu Dar???
Rating: Summary: Lots of potential but somewhat disappointing Review: After reading Path of Daggers, I have to say that I am disappointed with the lack of any real developement in the story. The plots were interesting, but they all seemed to be leading up to the next book. I was very disappointed with the lack of Mat's character. A lot of interesting things were started, but not finished. In all, I was let down after more than a two year wait. It was a decent book, but not up Robert Jordan's standards. I hope that the 9th book will be more enjoyable. Here's hoping!
