Summary: 2 years of waiting. Hrm.
Review: After "Crown of Swords", I bet any Jordan fan couldn't wait to see what was going to become of Mat. The Seanchan were finally coming back, The Daughter of the Nine Moons with them. Mat? I think he was *mentioned* 3 or 4 times. Instead, we get another 600 page book that gives us details on how much Nynaeve *hates* it when somebody bosses her around(which was already apparent in the 7 books before). "Ouch" is all I could say when I finished this Pre-ordered $20 book. This was honestly a "good" book; it still had the Jordan drama that WoT fans love so much, but I felt very unsatisfied with it. Now hopefully in book 9 Jordan doesn't choose Rand to leave out this time (Like Perrin in book 5, Mat in this current). I will definitely buy the next book, but another $20 really doesn't seem to be fair for a book that I thought was going to be this book (if you understand what I mean). I am hoping book 9 will be the great WoT moving book, but then, I had the same aspirations for 8... 2 years again huh? "Ouch"

Summary: A good read for WOT readers but slower than earlier novels.
Review: I did enjoy reading this book (after what seemed to be an endless wait since book 7 of WOT). I was a bit disappointed not finding out what happened to Mat and in general, wished for more resolution. RJ continues to develop more characters (as if there aren't enough to keep track of) and unveiled several minor surprises along the way. Hopefully, we won't have to wait 2+ years for book 9 as I am ready for it to be out!

Summary: Disappointment doesn't begin to describe it
Review: Okay, anyone who ordered this book has probably already read the first 7 and liked them. So no review is going to stop anyone from buying this. But be warned. This not good Jordan. This is not even good writing. This is an attempt to meet a deadline and quiet us starving fans down a bit. Only it's gonna backfire and make us moan worse.

The scenes with Rand are utterly worthless. I could barely get through those chapters. The character has lost all depth and has no introspection. These chapters are endless fight scenes with characters we don't know or like or hate (and there are just too many of them). He gets marginally better when he brings in Min, but this just basically feels like outline. None of the storytelling we learned to love.

The bits with the girls are marginally better. At least the characters draw us in and we get the Jordan voice again. We care about what is happening. The problem is that nothing happens. None of the questions or puzzles of the last books get solved, and nothing major plotwise is accomplished except they use the bowl of winds. Big surprise.

Perrin's scenes are on the same level as Rand's and Mat NEVER APPEARS AT ALL.

I don't know if this series has just gotten too big for Jordan to handle, if his editors rushed it to print before he was done or what. This is simply not up to the series standards. AT ALL.

Now he'd better redeam himself PDQ or I'll be so disgusted I may not even buy the next one...GRR.

Summary: It's finally here!!!!!
Review: I'm only about half way through with this book and this book definitely keeps up with the rest of the books that Robert Jordan has written. The only disappointing fact about this book is the fact that it hasn't covered all the characters, Matt, was one of the characters that is tied in with the Seanchan and nothing about him has been discussed. This book definitely is leading up the ninth book and I can't wait to finish up this book and get onto the process of waiting for book 9.

Summary: The saga continues for Wheel of Time Fans
Review: It has been almost two years since the last release of the Wheel of Time Saga, "A Crown of Swords". With such a long delay from a normally fast writer such as Robert Jordan there was concern from his many WOT fans. Had his health deteriorated? Had he lost his formerly sure touch and did his book need serious editing? Fortunately, "The Path of Daggers" maintains the very high standards set by Robert Jordan in the previous volumns of the series. The book maintains the "patient" if not glacial pace of his previous books. That is not to say that things don't happen, but with a created world so detailed, and so many (well over 100) characters to follow, it all takes time. The Path of Daggers follows the progress of the main female characters, espcially Egwene and Elyne, far more than in earlier books. This is done at expense of some of the other main characters. Mat Cauthin, for example, who was left in a critical fix at the end of Book 7 is hardly mentioned. Further, even experienced readers will have to go back to refresh themselves on some of the characters. Mr. Jordan is a demanding author. But all this is the price of a work of such monumental complexity. If you are a Wheel of Time devotee, get the book. If you are not familiar with the WOT series, I am afraid you will need to start from the beginning and read all seven books first to have any hope of following the characters and deeply interlaced plots. It will be worth it. Once again, a WOT book ends with many strings left hanging, and very few issues finally resolved. Let us hope we do not have to wait another two years to find out what happens to our heros and heroines.

Summary: good, but nothing happened!
Review: Ok, I'm an ultra-obsessed fan of the Wheel of Time series, and have been waiting in agony for the book to come out. I love anything that has to do with the series. While the books was good, nothing was really accomplished by any of the characters except for minor things. Readers are still unenlightened about Mat being alive or not at the end of the books, because it does not once go to him. That upset me quite a bit. On the up side, Jordan's writing was exquisite, as usual, and I couldn't put the book down. I was, however, kind of on the short side. It only took me about a day to read it. It's definitely worth reading though, and if you have the rest of the books, buy this one to complete your set. If you don't own any other, though, just get it at your local library. You may have to wait awhile, because I'm sure everyone in the world will have it on reserve, but we've waited two and half years for it, so you can wait a little longer. I just hope Jordan pops out the next book soon, or else I'll go nuts. And read the series for the eighth, ninth, and tenth times! Well, read the book; it's good. And that pretty much covers it.

Summary: A lot of filler and transition
Review: All in all, I can't believe we had to wait two tears for this. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the book, but it seemed to me that most of it was simply an attempt to get characters into the proper places for the next book's events. Dragging it out for 600 pages wasn't really necessary. In adition, did you all note that while the book contains 600 pages, it is printed in a LARGER FONT than previous books? I guess that explains why it took less that 4 days to finish the entire book (and it could have been read in two). I didn't really get excited until the final 100 pages when things actually started to happen, but even these events just seemed like devices to position characters for the next book. We were all expecting something phenomenal, but this was a bit of a let down. Let's all hope that Mr. Jordan now has everyone where he wants them and things can really start happening, like the siege on the White Tower, the inevitable Rand/Seanchan war (not just a couple battles), Elayne taking the throne, and hopefully the utter annihilation of the Shaido, who seem to be just wasting pages at this point. make something happen Mr. Jordan! All this filler work and exposition is killing your loyal readers!

Summary: Now I am ready to read the book, BUT WHERE IS IT.
Review: This book is just one long prelogue. The story lines do not progress at anywhere near the rate I expected. Jordan accomplished more in 100 pages in the first book then he did in all 600 pages of this one. If I was not hooked on the story I would not read anymore books from this author.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Title of book should have been "Disappointment Reigns"....
Review: It would seem as though all the loyal WoT readers have come to the same conclusion: This book is a 600 page preview to book nine. I myself am torn between wishing book nine to be the last book and not the last one. I would have given this book only one star, except that I thoroughly enjoyed Egwene's catching the Hall in their own trap. For that was the high point. One serious question I have: Will their be a Book Seven 1/2? I guess like all other loyal WoT readers, I will have to wait and see. And wait I shall

Summary: There is no such thing as a set-up book!!
Review: When I finished aCoS I decided that if PoD was as bad, I'd stop reading WoT. I am stopping now. PoD was nothing. Someone said, "oh, it was just a set-up book for book 9." Sorry, there is no such thing as a set-up book. The previous books were also set-up books to a great extent, but at least some things got resolved occasionally. In PoD RJ introduces a bunch of new plot lines and 100 new characters (most who will never be mentioned again). And he finishes off only the bowl-storyline which was dead to begin with. And his writing has gotten terribly disjointed and even more repetitive than it already was. Read the chapter "cup of sleep" and tell me I am not right. Well, RJ, I'm done with your series.
