Rating: Summary: Bored Review: This book took much too long to produce and with very little to show for it. The first half of the book was too bogged down in relating details about the dress and mannerisms of the characters. I was literally bored. The writing was disjointed and frankly difficult to follow at times. This series needs a significant shot in the arm in order for me to take any time to read further. If anyone wants a good exciting read try Terry Goodkind or "The Runelords" by David Farland. I wont continue to read this series until Robert Jordan figures out where he's going with it.
Rating: Summary: Get Your act Together Mr. Jordan Review: I live in Pakistan and if u know anything about it we are under sanctions...teh dollar is very much hiked......so this book cost me a small fortune for which i had to save six months.... however Mr. Jordan let me say that i have been completely let down by your betrayal of my loyalties to the wonderful series that u started......teh wheel of time has become nothing more than a money making machine for you.... When i first read the books i was enthralled and completely captivated by it..... I didnt even mind A crown of swords but i have to draw the line here!!!!!! I do not have the money or the time to wait around for your next book to come out for i consider it to be worthless..... This book does not compare with books 4,5 had more action of substance, MORE (please note) content than this filler of hardly 600 pages of crap. Rand was much more agreeable to me as he was at the end of book 5....ruthless, innocent, burning wiht rage, still finding his way, we could empathize with him....but that does not seem possible now....... All the real interesting characters are missing and the plot lines not covered up (Asmodean, Herid Fel, Isam, Luc etc...) What irks me most is not that this book is worthless in context of hte series but that i have to wait another two years for you to come up with something to redeem yourself for this farce... so i have decided to leave reading this series They say "all good things must come to an end" The wheel has stopped turning Cheerio
Rating: Summary: Lost and adrift. Review: The Wheel of Time has become the Death March of Time. Calling recent offerings ponderous is kind. I am forced to take notes as I read this book in an attempt to keep track of all the characters and plots. I find the writing repetitive and dull. As others have noted, how many times can you tolerate scenes of Nynaeve pulling on her braid. I long for the writing of the early books where there were fewer story lines, faster paced plots and characters that you could like. Unless he refocuses, the author deserves to see a dwindling reader base for this series.
Rating: Summary: Nothing happened, very frustrating Review: They didn't do anything for about 400 pages and then it was Rand(who is really getting freaky) fighting a battle that I didn't think was all that great. I love this series, but if he can't write a book with at least something significant happening, I don't think waiting for the next book will be worth it.
Rating: Summary: Almost no fantasy books can match The Wheel of Time. Review: The Path of Daggers is another great from Robert Jordan. I was hooked halfway through Eye of the World, and The Path of Daggers does nothing to make me dislike this series. Robert Jordan has once again mesmerized us all. Maybe it could have had a faster pace, but who cares when the author is this talented?
Rating: Summary: A good book, but not up to Par with the others Review: I love the WOT series so I rushed right out and bought the Path of Daggers. I was disappointed with the storyline. I love Robert Jordan's writing style and will read this series until it is finished (sometime in the next century) but this book just missed the mark. It jumped around in time far to much. For example, Perrin (my favorite) has a few chapters in the begining of the book, setting the stage for what is described in the books summary as "Perrin faces the intrigues of Whitecloaks, Seanchan invaders, shaido Aiel and the Prophet". Ummm. excuse me, but that NEVER HAPPENS. The stage is set, but then suddenly, we shift to someone else and he is ignored for the rest of the book. The next time we hear of him is the finally chapter of the book, it is MONTHS later, god knows what has been happening, and he is riding in to talk to the prophet. How did we get there? Happened with some of the other characters as well, but not to that extreme. And where the Heck is Mat?? After hating him in the first two books, he was developing into a first class hero, threating Perrins spot as my favorite. I am sure that once this series is complete, I will look back at this book and rate it higher, but it just wasn't enough in a seemingly never-ending series.
Rating: Summary: Disappointing Review: What there was of the story was very good. But where is the rest? Events barely advanced. True, Elayne made it to Caemlyn, the Bowl of the Winds was used, the Seachan were engaged, ect. But the overall story was lacking. Over 500 pages just to advance a few events? Hardly worth the hardback price. I will wait until the series is finished and purchase the remaining books in paperback. I think Mr. Jordan is milking a cash-cow.
Rating: Summary: 600 pages with little more info than the jacket cover Review: First of all, it's difficult, if not impossible, to give any Wheel of Time novel less than 3 stars. That being said, this was the quickest read of the series for the simple fact that there's not much there. The book could be summarized with a one sentence description of what happens between Rand and the Seanchan (read it to find out what). The rest of the book details what is ABOUT to happen with Perrin, Egwene, and the rest of the crew (except Mat, of course). Unfortunately, the anticipation that usually accompanies Jordan's development of plot lines was exhausted sometime during Crown of Swords. A series that is this well-written, complex, and long is bound, just as life and any struggle is, to have periods of relative inactivity. Fortunately, most writers don't choose to dwell on these periods. Admittedly, the series would lose its stunning realism without attention to these times, but based on this book the projected number of books in the series is approaching infinity. The good news is that this remains the greatest fantasy series of all time bar none. Jordan is the only author I make time to read. Let's face it, if you've made it this far you're hooked. We're all along for the ride and can only hope Mr. Jordan continues to make it as fascinating as possible.
Rating: Summary: Someone oil these damn hinges Review: Scan, see description of Aes Sedai facial expressions. Turn page. Scan, find out what local grass, gravel and general foliage looks like. Turn page. Scan, learn for the eighth time what one of several hundred thousand characters looks like. Lay down, go to sleep. Dream of the days when I would re-read every preceding book when a new one would come out.
Rating: Summary: Wow!! Review: Well I guess I do not want to bash Robert Jordan, but I did expect a little more. It can be said that he does not know where his series is going but would you? If I created a world where there were so many possibilities, I would probably be a little lost on where to go myself. This book is not his best, but it it better than Crown of Swords, which I found dreadfully boring...although needed. If you write a book, it needs a beginning, splurge in the middle, a wonderful climax, and then an ending. The same is true for a series. The middle books were not as exciting as the first few...but they are good. My point is this, NONE OF YOU WILL QUIT READING THEM!! We are all going to finish this series, and I think we will all enjoy it. There is a reason that we cannot put these books down. They are wonderful books, although tedious at times. We enjoy them and the last hundred pages or so of The Path of Daggers was really good. Jordan came back to what made him fun to read. I trust that in the following books, maybe not the next book, his writing will revert and the series will move at the speed of light. Finally, I want to put in a word to those that are thinking about starting this series. DO SO!! They really are wonderful and an enjoyment to read. Go buy Eye of the World and fall in love with the Wheel of Time. Forget all the negative comments and read the books for yourselves. Do not let anyone make you miss out on a series that will bring tons of enjoyment to you. Happy Reading!!
