Rating: Summary: Great Book Review: This book was great fun. As ever Robert Jordan has created an exceptional fantasy filled with romance, mystery, and high drama. The ever-twisting plot lines are crafted with great finesse and subtlety, and the joy of the author is fully apparent. I hope he does not become as impatient as many of his readers, as his pacing continues to be remarkable. Overall, an exceptional effort. My only wish is that the author would expand the glossary to include minor characters. Thank you Robert Jordan, you have created a dream worth remembering.
Rating: Summary: By Far the Weakest of the Series. Review: With book 8 of the Wheel of Time Robert Jordan introduces nothing new and not much exciting. This is the weakest in the series and if it takes two more years for the next to come out, I don't know if I'll be able to hold interest that long. This seems like a book in the middle with no new plots twists and no character development. It seems like he just put this out there to appease his fans and he did a half way job of it. And one final note, where is Mat anyway? He's the most entertaining of all the characters. He is to Rand what Sam is to Frodo in The Lord of The Rings.
Rating: Summary: Disgusted Review: Like many of the other Jordan fans, I was anxiously anticipating the arrival of this book, only to find that it was a waste of time and money. The storyline positively stagnates. There was nothing in this book that required an entire book to be written about it. This book was about 600 pages worth of bun, but "where's the beef?" Where was Mat for that matter? (not that having Mat in this book would have saved it, but it might have enhanced it in some ways) I can only hope that in the remainder of the series Jordan can recapture that special !umphh! in his writing that drew his fans to this series in the first place.
Rating: Summary: What has happened to The Man?!? Review: I have read the WOT series cover to back more than 5 times. I dreamed I walk in the streets of Tar-Valon, I called my girlfriend "Shade Of My Heart" and Miashara.. However, is it true that all good things must end? I M a REAL Jordanite - I have WOT both in Paperback and in Hardcover which is no easy task when u live in Israel. To make a long story short, Path Of Daggers, the 8th book in the series, SUCKED! It alot of what makes Jordan so special, but ONLY those things, just doesnt work. I have been VERY disapointed to say the least, but I will still buy the 9th, just so that I may find out that the series is not shot to hell..
Rating: Summary: Better, but how long is this series going to be? Review: Things are beginning to happen - the whole world has basically just hung out for the last 3 books. Sure, there's a lot going on - but at this rate, this will be a 20 book series - there is no way that he can finish it in 2 books. I like Jordan, but his characters are getting annoying - isn't it amazing that NO ONE HAS A CLUE ABOUT ANYTHING? And they are always angry - OK, the world is about to end and everyone is stressed out - some anger is justified. Path of Daggers is good - but I am no longer sure that I will continue buying this series in hardcover the day it comes out. I think it was Emerson who once wrote a letter to a friend and put as a PS, "I am sorry to have written you such a long letter - I didn't have time to write a brief one." - Jordan has clearly never heard of that.
Rating: Summary: Jordan fills u with wonder from Edmonds Fields Review: Is the book really bad? I do not know cuz I didn't read it but ordered it. People even that u think THe Path dosen't match up to all your expectations its just starting another adventure if not trying to finish it. Well maybe sometimes Ewegene and Elayne and the other girl spend way too much time at certain places. But who cares I know u all are waiting for the moment of The Dark and Rand but do we really want this to happened right away? Jordan left us wondering with dismay since the Crown of Swords was finished. Now after the Path bigger gaps are of wonders are in the story. The Seachen, Borderlands, LAnds Beyond, Rand, Mat, and many more. So much to answer in the next book. Hopefully Jordan will give us a spectacular finish on the next book. but every ending is a good one and brings us closer to the prhochey
Rating: Summary: This book is too short! Review: First off, I love this series. Jordan is a genius and has created, in my opinion, the best fantasy series of all time. That said, I'm highly irratated that the books keep getting shorter. Jordanites, pull out your book six, seven and eight and compare them side to side. Tor has used larger type and fewer lines to create the illusion that the books are similar in length. When you calculate the average characters per line with the average number of lines per page and number of pages, you find the following: Book six-- 3,015,360 characters. Book seven-- 1,861,704 characters. Book eight-- 1,493,115 characters. Book eight is less than half the length of book six! Well, at least it costs more. Unlike some other reviewers, I don't wish for this story to ever end. This has been the best read of my life. But c'mon Robert, let's get with the program. You are too good to spend two and one half years to write half a book. How about a whole book next time sometime late in 1999?
Rating: Summary: This book takes too long to get to the last 150 pages! Review: TPoD is a book in the WoT series, and therefore is great by defalt. However, when compared with the other seven books in the series, I believe this one is the worst. I agree with many of the things said by other reviewers. All the women talk too #*!% much, and we already know that most of them have bad tempers. I was beginning to wonder if the Kin, the seafolk windfinders, and the Aes Sedai would stop glaring at each other long enough to actually do something. And, yes, Lan should beat the pee out of Nynaeve. I found myself skipping over far too much of the book just to get to the meat of it, something I don't like to do with Jordan because I enjoy this series so much. Prior to this book, I have not agreed with those that criticise RJ as being far too windy, but only in the last 15O pages of TPoD does he get the show on the road. Those 150 pages were very good, but they don't make up for the tedium in the preceeding pages. I can only hope that this book is sort of analagous to "The Empire Strikes Back" in its build up aspect. We may all see a payback in later volumes (I hope!). I just hope the wait isn't as long.
Rating: Summary: Another book to leave you wanting more Review: that darn Jordan.. This is another example why we should bring back the death penalty. Robert Jordan will be the death of me and it is premeditated, as he knows exactly what he is doing by tagging us (the readers) along his long travels in the WOT. Robert Jordan is brilliant as usual...and as usual he does not deliver enough (pages). he has also not mentioned Mat in this book whatsoever...which is fustrating as the last book had Mat in all sorts of trouble. Mr. Jordan has go to learn that even a great series as his will have a threshold of time for it's readers....if we wait too long, we will move on...the Path of Daggers took two years ..if I have to wait another two years...I think I will move unto another author...No I won't...but I would like to think I could....
Rating: Summary: I feel taken advantage of Review: Now that RJ has us hooked on his facinating world, he can squeeze our wallets for all they're worth. 8 books? Nah. 9? 10? 11? 12? At the rate PofD moved he could drag this series on forever. Maybe it's prophetic that in each book's "about the author" blurb RJ says he'll "be writing until they nail shut my coffin." Maybe he meant he'll be writing disappointing WofT books until they nail shut his coffin.
