Rating: Summary: Book Eight WOT stands for Waste Of Time Review: Jeez, what a tedious, overly complex, well you get the idea. We could expect one book of a series to lose momentum but two in a row is not acceptable. Some one else can suffer through the next two years in the making disaster, it will not be me.
Rating: Summary: Book Keeping Review: Book keeping is what I call this latest novel. I see it as Mr. Jordan needed to tie up loose ends before he kicks our butts with book nine. Please, 3 stars should be the lowest anyone should go. I hate it when from chapter to chapter characters travel these great distances just to get to another key item in a plot line. Kudos to Jordan to keep the Randland time line honest and not leave alot of gaps or loose ends in his story. If book keeping needs to be done... so be it.
Rating: Summary: Book good, but nothing finished! Review: Although RJ's newest book was well written, it seemed as though there was about 300 pages missing. The end was not as strong as his previous books. For a book which took so long to be released there should have been more to the book. Maybe RJ had so many other projects to work on (WOTWOT, Legends) he had to rush this one out preemptly. Let's hope the next book has what this book should have in it, namely Mat, the continuing story of the borderland lords, the battle at Tar Valon, etc. This book was good, but when I was finished I was looking through the last pages again, wondering if I had missed anything.
Rating: Summary: Slow and Painful Review: We are just holding on for the end now. Not quite ready to write off the series, however we will be able to wait for the softcover next time, even at an estimated 4 year wait--the pain of reading this volume and tracking all the subsidiary characters will be remembered for some time, although the plot won't be.
Rating: Summary: Robert Jordan once again fails to disappoint. Review: Robert Jordan's 8th book 'Path of Daggers" fails to disappoint readers. While the book did not advance the plot much in most areas, it does set the reader up for massive changes in the next volume. The book was definitely worth the wait and the price.
Rating: Summary: Like a lot of fans, I was extremely disappointed Review: I hate to add my voice to the cacophony of criticism that has preceded it, but I must say that I was extremely disappointed in RJ's newest. The two-year wait was extremely anticlimactic. RJ seemed to be struggling for a plot--and for the first time, I wondered whether he actually knows where the WoT series is going. This is the eighth book in the series; we don't need more character development, and certainly not without any plotline. This book was so lacking that I found myself questioning whether it was worthwhile to read book nine when it comes out.
Rating: Summary: keep it coming Review: This is not the best work in the wheel of time saga, but i must say that it still has me engrossed after seven years of reading the series. Prior to reading this i was hoping for a conclusion but now yet again i am looking forward to the next episode. Thank you Mr.Jordan for all the entertaining evenings Patrick Brady
Rating: Summary: A necessary book in a long series Review: As I read through the comments made on this book I see a lot of people disappointed by the way the book dragged on and on in the beginning (thier opinions). A lot of people don't understand what Jordon is doing in his books and decide that this book was boring, stupid, unnecessary, etc. This book was very much a necessity in this series. As a lot of WoT readers know, Jordan leaves out a lot of things in his books. He does that on purpose, you are suppose to think for yourself. Where is Mat? Well obviously he was captured by the Seachean. He's on his way to the Princess of the Moon to fulfill his destiny, did that really need to be elaborated on in the book? If any of you have noticed, the book only spans maybe a month or two of happenings to the characters. It takes a long time to cross an ocean on ships with sails as some may know. And remember, the land where Arthur Hartwings armies went was VERY far away. Why does Jordan have to elaborate on a very boring ship journey in which Mat is most likely enslaved. I'm sure he'll tell the story in the next book, but it will at most encompass a chapter at the most, maybe even only a page or so.Jordan writes his books the way he does because he isn't writing for you. He's writing for himself and the characters whos stories he is telling. That is why you write, you don't write because a whole lot of people buy the books and make you a bunch of money. In this series, it was essential to see what was happening with the characters. Rand especially it seems. As you all know, Rand does something very distructive in the battle seen. That was essential to the way the series will go. Was I the only one to see how important that part was? Sometimes, the best books are the ones that tie up all the loose ends, and this book seems to do some of that tieing. Or course, I'm not saying this was the best book in the series either--it was far from it. But remember people, he is not writing for you, he is writing for himself and those characters. That is the markings of a good writer. I for one am very proud that I am a fan of such an intelligent and profound writer. He writes things out well, and I'm sure he'll continue to do so. About the time element....remember that Robert Jordan may not be his real name. I know for a fact that he has used other identities and maybe he wanted to explore other writing fields, but knew he needed to pull out a book for all you raving fans out there that were wetting their pants waiting for the next book (hey, I was one hehe). So he decided to do some character development and other important things he's needed to do from the beginning. Sometimes--I've found--you need to look a little deeper than the cover of a book to see what is really being written. Everyone, enjoy the reading, but keep in mind about what this entire series is about. An exploration into the human soul, but slam packed into a very fun and amazing journey!
Rating: Summary: Dont buy this book!!! Review: Jordan once again give us a sub-par effort. However, the quality won't improve as long as people keep snapping up the trash he is currently putting out. If you are like me and miss the good old days when this series actually had books with conclusions, do us a favor and check it out from the library.
Rating: Summary: Plot lines left dangling in the Machin Shin Review: Is it just me, or did anyone else think that the cover blurb wasn't written by someone who'd actually read the book? E.g. what was that about with Perrin's soul and Faile in danger? Or could it be that Tor has chopped this book into two in order to double its revenues....I hope that this is the case and the state of this book isn't entirely down to Jordan.
