Rating: Summary: Another masterpiece! Review: I don`t see how any of you can give this book a low rating. Sure, it may be a little slow in the action yet Jordan still is magnificent. No author can even come close to his quality of writing. I loved this book and think it was worth the wait! Book 9 will probably be the best in the series. It makes me mad to see people compare Jordan to Eddings or Goodkind. Although I admit Eddings is a terrific author, he cannot compare to Jordan. As for Goodkind.... I couldn't even finish his first book...terrible. Anyway, POD is an exceptional book. I recommend everybody to read it!
Rating: Summary: Jordan is not the whole world.... Review: As we are treated to the latest installment of Robert Jordan's epic celebration of his stamina as a writer, I cannot help but wonder if Jordan helps or hurts the rest of the genre and indeed if his success hurts the much better writers out there. If you are disappointed by... 1. Jordan's inability to resolve anything of moment. 2. The tedium of good Rand vs. mad Rand... 3. Jordan's inability to write a female character who is not an arrogant bully.. Then read the best series out there...George R. R. Martin's Game of Thrones and his upcoming Clash of Kings. Imagine....characters who respond like people, not archetypes, dialogue that doesn't sound like the average dungeons and dragon's game, and ACTUAL STORY MOVEMENT. So avoid the Path of Daggers, it leads nowhere.
Rating: Summary: How can a novel be this good and still be so disappointing? Review: I have always defended Jordan in the past. Truly, it has always astounded me that people would want him to wrap this series up so quickly - why not let it stretch to 12,13 books, as long as the quality is there? Well, Path of Daggers is beautifully written, and still has that tense drama and flecks of humor and... what we've come to expect from Jordan as a writer. Yet, I couldn't help but feel disappointed (maybe too soft a word) after the feverish 2+ year wait for this volume. Yes, there are some great moments.... I'm grasping here. Rand's trip to war with the Seanchan just wasn't that interesting. Nor was the ending, a repeat of the balefire romp that ended volumes 3 and 5.... The political intrigues that Egwene wades thru are interesting, but.... Nynaeve and Elayne's storyline is the weakest link, the only great moment being the murder, which is sortof ignored after it happens... Perrin, nothing special happens, really.... Mat is ignored, but so was Perrin in a previous volume, so that would be acceptable if the rest of the book wasn't so, well... Could it be that Robert Jordan (still the best writer in the genre, although watch out for George R.R. Martin) has written a book that is not so sublime? Surely not. Surely I just need to re-read Path of Daggers, I must have missed something.
Rating: Summary: Sheer and utter disappointment Review: I remember one critic calling Jordan the next Tolkien. What a joke. The Wheel of Time started off with so much promise...what happened? All I know is that absolutely nothing happened in this book! The only way I'll pick up Book 9 is if Robert Jordan posts a letter of apology to fans on the Internet. It's the least that he could do.
Rating: Summary: Do not start this series!! Review: This is a very bad book, but my main message is to tell people to not start the series. I'll reserve judgment on the series until its completed, but it is painful reading it at its current rate and pace. However, I do disagree with many of the negative reviews. I think that a lot happens in this book and it does move the plot along. It just does so very poorly. I find it harder and harder to care about the characters or what happens to them. The plot moves along without development or tension. Gone are the hints and foreshadowing that kept you guessing about future developments. Most of the text is simply filler. He desparately needs a decent editor.
Rating: Summary: Terribly disappointing sequel Review: Like most, I started reading this series years ago and was immediately captured by the rich and inventive storylines and the fascinating subplots. I had never even been a fan of fantasy sf before I read Eye of the World. However, despite its original promise, I have to say that I am a bit embarrassed by purchasing this last novel. While I have not been one to criticize too harshly, even as I thought some of the earlier books contained some major deficiencies, I have to say that I was terribly dissapointed with this novel. To put it bluntly, this is a very bad piece of storytelling. Indeed, it would be difficult to detail all of the problems in such a small space. I think that the most annoying thing to me was the fact that it introduced even more irrelevant and useless characters. But perhaps the most telling comment that I can make is that after spending a couple of days reading this novel, I felt a great deal of remorse for having completely wasted this small portion of my life.
Rating: Summary: Will there ever be an end to this series! Review: I am a truly devoted Robert Jordan and Wheel of Time fan however, about the only good thing to say regarding Path of Daggers is that I finished it. It was pure torture. I know Mr. Jordan realizes that the year 2000 represents Armageddon, I can only hope he finishes this series before the end of the world comes. Hey Robert, stop dangling a carrot at the end of a string... GET TO THE POINT, FINISH THIS SERIES; YOU'RE KILLING ME!
Rating: Summary: From Promotion- to Slow Motion- to No Motion Review: It was with eager aniticipation that I picked up this novel, but after the first 100 pages, I realized that it had not been worht the 2 year wait. Much as I have been enjoying the entire WOT series, I have realized the publishers and the almighty dollar probably had more to say about this book than the previous ones. I am embarrassed to say this, but I am beginning to wonder if even R.J. knows where this story line is going. Where are the strong characterizations and deep interpersonal communications of the 1st 5 books? Now Nynaeve acts more like a besotten 12 year old than village Wisdom ( much less Aes Sedai ). And Rand has continued to act the buffoon in all BUT his domineering plays to overtake the world. And enough of the sniffing Perrin, try TALKING.... All said and done, I do hope that the public is not held at bay another 2+ years for a book to finally start gluing all these subplots together. I gave this one an extra star in honor of the previous books, but it wouldn't have earned it on its own.
Rating: Summary: One of the best yet! Review: This book was wonderful. A lot happened. Do all of you really want the series to end? None of it was boring. Jordan sucks you into the WOT world with lurid details and great action scenes intermingled. Keep it coming RJ!
Rating: Summary: Not quite up to snuff! Review: The Path of Daggers just does not do justice to Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time series; This is definitely the weakest link in the chain. Nothing novel is introduced in this volume and no further character development is seen. More or less, it is a rehashing of the finer points of the other novels in this series, except without the punch that leaves the reader in awe. In each of the previous novels, the story builds and reaches an epic climax. This one just wavers and then fizzles at the end. Hopefully the next one will be much more like The Shadow Rising or The Fires of Heaven in intensity. Otherwise, let the series end.
