Rating: Summary: Fine book, just not what i was expecting Review: I've beaten Halo multiple times. No, i don't own the game. Yes, i've read the "Fall of Reach", yes, "The Flood" isn't perfect. I like this book, but it doesn't deserve a 5. The Master Chief seems...weak. The battles aren't written "right". IT skips thru verrrrrrrrrry important levels in diologue like "he ran through many corridors filled with covenant and flood. He took them out. After the 20th corridor..." It bugs me. I like it. i don't love it.On to the good: "the flood" has a MUCH deeper storyline than the game. You learn things that weren't in it, and it make you want to play the game through parts that you already have beaten, just to hear "that one crucial line". The Master Chief is shown as an emotionless person, good or bad? You're choice. The ending about the marines is simply breathtaking. Cap'n Keyes is strict, and Cortana is funny. The flood are...well, they're the flood. Freaky creatures that need phsyciotrists. And food. The twists in this book are nothing new if you have beaten the game, but it makes you gasp if you haven't. A great companion with the "Fall of Reach", a completely awesome 5 star official prequel to the book and the game.Although "the flood" is slightly dissapointing, it's an awesome read. Buy it.
Rating: Summary: Halo - The Story Continues! Review: Wow! I have finished reading Nylund's "The Fall of Reach" just a month ago. The way the story was told was incredible - it breathed true life into this Bungie masterpiece, and Halo: The Flood continues the tradition! This book is complete with a fresh new perspective told from the Covenant's point of view, in addition to the action we have come to expect from the Master Chief. Similar to Halo: The Fall of Reach, The Flood contains the finest ideas from other science fiction works - in particular the Helljumper's pods remind me of the vehicles used in Starship Troopers (the book). I'm pleased to see that such ideas have carried over to this work. The Halo book series tells the incredible story of Halo and the human-covenant battle that rages across the galaxy. Sure, the book is based on a video game, but don't let that stop you from reading it! You don't even need to play the game if you read both books in sequence - they are packed with pleanty of detail. Overall I give this book an A+. Now I just wish Bungie would comission a novel or two to tell the story of the UESC Marathon.
Rating: Summary: Much better than the Fall of Reach Review: I have recently purchased, the novel, Halo: The Flood, because I loved the game. The book is thrilling and exciting. Plus it is so much better than the Fall of Reach. The Fall of Reach was also a great book, but Halo: The Flood is so much better. It begins when the crew of the Pillar of Autumn led by their captain, Captain Keyes, is the only surviving crew of the battle on Reach. The only spartan, which is a human cruely transformed into a super soldier, The Master Chief is the main character. With the crews artificial intelligence concealed in his battle armor, the master chief crash lands on Halo in the midst of a covenent, the evil alien group, occupation. The aliens are curiously searching for something on the ruing. Built by a long, dead race halo harbors many secrets, but one overshadows them all. Now, the Master Chief must lead the scattered troops in a brutal race to unravel halos darkest mystery and unleash its greatest source of power. The spectacular plot is filled with twists and turns. Also, the author, William C. Dietz puts parts of the story from Captain Keyes point of view. Some of the story in fact is from a covenent's point of view. The novel has plenty of action and is exciting from beginning to end. This novel is definitely worth buying and reading over and over again.
Rating: Summary: A novel for the game? Review: I was overexcited when I first saw this book being a huge fan of Halo. I bought it for $11.79 and finished half the book in less than a day. This book is an okay book for Sci-fi readers or Halo fans. If you beat the game, you might not want to read the book because it's like a walkthrough. But... Halo: The Flood also brings in the Human Covenant War through the eyes of other characters. You'll read about Sam Marcus, Capt. Keyes' killed and unknown comrades, and even about a Grunt called Yayap (Yayap makes you feel sorry for the Grunts and despise the Elites). I would recommend this book for young adults, there's a little too much of profanity (unless you're not sensitive).
Rating: Summary: Good adaption, but not as good as The Fall of Reach... Review: The author does a good job bringing the game into the book -- complete with most of the dialogue and quotes you hear with the game and the book adds a great dimension to the events happening on Halo. However - just as the game - it's very action-oriented with a majority of the book being about how he tosses a grenade and sidesteps. Focusing on the action instead of the story or characterization gets a little boring. The first book really lets you get to know the characters AND lets you get in on the action. Also, the other difference from the first book is that in "The Fall of Reach", the Covenant are tough and mysterious, making them interesting. "The Flood", the Covenenant are pretty dumb and easy to kill, which... well, which makes them dumb (regular marines puts them down with a bullet). Master Chief is inexplicably a lot less strong here also. It's like "The Fall of Reach" was played on HEROIC or LEGENDARY level, while the setting for "The Flood" was EASY level. This is still a good read (unlike other series such as the STARCRAFT line), and you'll love it as long as you don't get your hopes up.
Rating: Summary: Timeline: where does the FLOOD fit in Review: Here is a quick timeline on where First Strike fits in: The Fall of Reach >>> HALO + The Flood >>>First Strike >>> HALO 2 (Nov 9th 2004) __________ The Fall of Reach: Planet Reach has fallen and the Human Covenant WAR rages on. This books introduces most of the terms and charachters, so is a must read. sort of "read this first" __________ HALO (Xbox game): you have to play the game to find out what happens. Believe it or not the game has a very strong storyline to it. __________ The Flood: Ok, you cannot play the game because you don't have $200 to invest, read all about it in "The Flood". This one tells you what really happens on HALO. It also talks in Covenant first-person. so you get to know what the Covenant think about the war against the humans. No other books talks as much in Covenant first-person as this one. so Its a good read even if you have played the game ___________ First Strike: After you have played the game or read "The Flood" you would want to know what happens before HALO 2. So "First Strike" fills the gap. ___________ HALO 2 (Xbox game): Comes out Nov 9th 2004.

Rating: Summary: GREATEST BOOK EVER!!! Review: Halo: The Flood is basically the video game called Halo: Combat Evolved in novel form. This book is a must read for any type of science fiction fan. This story starts out on the Pillar of Autumn, a human spacecraft. The main character is known by several names: Master Chief, Spartan-117, or John. He is a physically augmented super soldier called a Spartan II. The ship he is on, The Pillar of Autumn, is attacked by the Covenant (a group of alien races out to destroy the human race because of religious beliefs). He ends up on an escape shuttle which crashlands on an ancient forerunner facility called Halo. which is a ring world that has a very similar climate to Earth. He and his fellow UNSC soldiers must fight for their lives against the Covenant and they thought they had a chance too, until the worst happened. Another alien species called the Flood appeared. The Flood start out in a spore form which invades its prey's (human or Covenant Elite) body. It then takes over all bodily functions and the body sort of rots out, so that it basically becomes a walking corpse called a combat form. Combat forms are capable of handling both human and Covenant weapons. They also have whiplike appendage which can really do a lot of damage. Suddenly the UNSC Marines find themselves really in a fight for their lives. Will they defeat the Covenant and the Flood and escape, or will they spend the last moments of their lives on Halo? Read Halo: The Flood to find out.
Rating: Summary: It is a pretty good book Review: The flood is a really good book but it is just like the game, and has a little to much profanity. borrow this one dont buy.
