Summary: A game of Thrones was a fantastic book.
Review: I thought that George R.R. Martin did a great job on A Game of Thrones. It was interesting to the last sentence. It was full of adventure and magic and many old old tales or myths. A Game of Thrones managed to keep me interested the whole way through, and I dont usually read 800 to 900 page books. If you aren't sure whether or not to go with this book, JUST DO IT! In the end you will love it and be just as anxious as I am for the sequil to come out. I hope that the sequil will be as good as the first book and that Mr. Martin will hurry up and finish it.

Summary: Absolutely the greatest fantasy story ever told!
Review: Martin's "A Game of Thrones," is absolutely the greatest fantasy story ever told! Forget Tolkein, Jordan, Kurtz, and all the others. It is obvious that Martin will lead the fantasy pack by leaps and bounds going into the next century. His characters are so real, and his plot so eloquently devious that it touches us on an emotional level. The hardest part about turning the last page, is knowing that I will forever despise the Lannister's, and because they are only fantasy characters, I will never be allowed to exercise the hatred. Mark my words, Martin will be recognized as the undisputed heavyweight "King." I urge you not to read it until the next installment in the trilogy is available. Otherwise, you will go through withdrawls while waiting for "A Clash of Kings"

Summary: The best book I have read in a long time.
Review: I can't believe this book has not gotten more attention! This is to put it mildly the best fantasy book of the last two decades and my personal favorite of all time. In a fantasy field that has grown boring and repetitious, Martin has done the impossible and created a story that is original and full of depth. His many characters are so full of life and so real that you can become lost in the story. I read the first three books in the Wheel of Time by Robert Jordon and they do not even come close to what Martin has created with A Game of Thrones. To be fair to Jordon though I do think he has created a very interesting world but what he lacks is the depth of character and plot twists that Martin has mastered. I do not want to reveal any of the plot because it is among the best ever and should be enjoyed without any review getting in the way. For those of you who are used to kiddie fantasy this is probably not a book for you because it is very intense at times and requires a level of conciousness and thinking which even a avid Sci Fi reader could appriciate. The next book in the series is called, "A Clash of Kings," which is already getting rave reviews in the U.K. If it is as good as A Game of Thrones like they are saying in England then we could be in for the greatest fantasy series of the modern age.

Summary: The series I can't wait to own
Review: I have been reading fantasy for over 20 years and I've read all the greats: Tolkien, Jordan, Eddings, Howard, etc., and I now think that Mr. Martin has joined the elite of fantasy authors, and may very well be sitting atop his own throne. This book takes the 'traditional' approach to fantasy and snaps it like a twig, delving into areas that most fantasy authors don't dare, and through all of it providing a sense of realism and anticipation that will likely cause lost sleep:) Along with nearly all of the readers here who have reviewed this book, I would say that if you are going to read just one fantasy saga in the next decade, this is it. I can't stand waiting for the sequel.

Summary: Excellent Political Fantasy
Review: Simply amazing. Not only does this offer all the basic requirements for a fantasy epic--vast world, colorful history/myths,a very complex and wonderfully decietful political backdrop... but Martin's prose in among the best, far better than most the filler on the shelves these days. The descriptions are vivid and lush. Best of all, he really gets into the skulls of the charicters and makes them breath, fear, hate, and love. Recomended.

Summary: The Game of Thrones- A Song of Fire and Ice
Review: I was introduced to this by a Robert Jordan Fan. The Dragon and the other Houses were a grand start and the ignored intrusion of the Others and all beasts of the outer wall. The magic is costly and worthless and the Blood-Magic was only evil. The sexual parts were tasteles and annoying as well as spoiling, for I would love to share a G version with many friends.

Summary: A great start for a new series
Review: I have been reading fantasy for over twenty years and have to say this is one of best first novels for a new series I have ever read.

If you have been disappointed by Robert Jordan's Wheel of Time, which has been stuck in the mud for the last three years, then buy this book.

A huge cast of characters, lots of plots, great battles and a dose of old fashion fantasy. The book is lite on magic but very heavy on politics for a great change of pace.

I am counting the days until the next book in the series is released

Summary: Amazing
Review: I have been reading fantasy since I learned to read and have at last found a series and world which can compete with Tolkien's Middle Earth. AGOT is spectacular not only for what it includes, but for what it only hints at - Where did the Targaryen Dragon Kings actually come from? Are they truly human? What lies beyond the Wall? I eagerly await answers for these and other questions, not least of which is anticipation of the first meeting between Dany Targaryen and the Starks of Winterfell. Will the dragons with Dany arrive together with the winter which is coming, and will they prove a match? I eagerly await the next book, to see if my questions will be answered (or more intriguing, not answered). The most satisfying characteristic of this book is the stimulation given to one's own imagination. Can't wait for the next one!

Summary: A breath of life into a dying fantasy world
Review: This book was the best I have read in a long time.In a world where Tolkien reigned supreme, there is finally a new leader in the fantasy world, and his name is Martin!!! In contrast to Anthony's Xanth, which has been drawn out far too long, A Game of Thrones is a fresh look at a new world with new and interesting characters and a plot that keeps one spellbound. I picked up this book dubiously, thinking "Here we go Again", but this one kept me locked to my chair until I was done. This book beat out Goodkind's series barely. This selection has a better plot, many new characters, and a more "earthly" feel, created by the author. Let us just hope that the rest of this series performs at the level this one did. E-mail me if you want to compare reviews...

Summary: A very original and well paced book
Review: I never give out 5's but this book comes close. Very nice plot, great characters and real tension. It just feels so new and it will be hard to choke down other fantasy books after tasting this one. I look forward with great eagerness to future volumes.
