Rating: Summary: "When Last We Left our Hero..." Review: This halo book returns to its roots; starting on Reach with the Spartan battle against the aliens, then contuines the saga of Spartan 117 Master Chief. This book is also the 2nd by Nylund and avoids the ploting of The Flood book. Nylund's quick paced prose makes for quick and action packed reading while he keeps in the high tech stuff that's just plain cool. The only thing wrong with this book is that it is a pretty short read and it will be some time before the 4th book comes out.
Rating: Summary: Nylund is great Review: Nylund does a great job on these science fiction books. Enjoyed The Fall of Reach. The Flood was pretty good, I wish Nylund wrote this one. First Strike was awesome. Nylund is a great writer and i like his books.
Rating: Summary: Nylund is great Review: Eric Nylund is the perfect author to write these books. Even though The Flood wasn't written by him. Loved Fall of Reach, didn't like The Flood as much but was still pretty great, First Strike was awesome.
Rating: Summary: Obey you masta! Get dis book, mon! Review: This is an excellent addition to the Halo Series. I actually enjoyed this one more than The Fall of Reach. I believe once Halo2 comes out, this book will fit seamlessly between them. This book is very interesting and exciting. You also get to know more about Covenent Engineers as well as the introduction to the Brute which will be making SEVERAL appearances in Halo2. You will get this book! Get the game! Get the series! Or DIE!
Rating: Summary: More of the Good Stuff Review: Halo: First Strike is seemingly one of the best books I've read. Eric Nylund had a tough job in front of him; not only did he have to meet the high standards he set with his first book, Halo: Fall of Reach, but had to find an exciting and plausable story to fall between the games Halo and up coming sequel Halo 2. What he came up with is not only amazing, but the perfect way to continue the Halo universe. Right from the start this book grabs the attention of the reader and draws them in. There are so many surprises and plot twists that you couldn't predict the ending if you tried. The only major complaint I have is that some areas were slightly confusing and didn't go into enough detail. This was rare however, and is easily forgiven due to the exceptional story as a whole. If you like Halo in any way, do yourself a favor and check out this book. Halo 2 can't come fast enough...
Rating: Summary: Timeline - What goes where Review: Here is a quick timeline on where First Strike fits in: The Fall of Reach >>> HALO [+] >>> The Flood >>>First Strike >>> HALO 2 __________ The Fall of Reach: Planet Reach has fallen and the Human Covenant WAR rages on. This books introduces most of the terms and charachters, so is a must read. sort of "read this first" __________ HALO (Xbox game): you have to play the game to find out what happens. Believe it or not the game has a very strong storyline to it. __________ The Flood: Ok, you cannot play the game because you don't have $200 to invest, read all about it in "The Flood". This one tells you what really happens on HALO. ___________ First Strike: After you have played the game or read "The Flood" you would want to know what happens before HALO 2. So "First Strike" fills the gap. ___________ HALO 2 (Xbox game): we will all have to wait and see what HALO 2 has in store for us. Hope this helps
Rating: Summary: I DON'T PLAY THE GAME, BUT I'LL SURE KEEP READING THESE! Review: Eric Nylund does it again! I was very happy to have waited for his next HALO arrival. When I read the 1st novel, I was pretty blown away from the great writing, simply from a game I knew about, but don't play.To my surprise, I was hooked quickly in this series. But when the 2nd one came out, and it wasn't written by the same author, I declined. And from what I've read from Amazon.com reviewrs - its a good thing that I did. But Nylund has a truly great knack for this storyline plot for a game that I don't even play, but find utterly fascinating. This novel is chock-full of action and adventure, sure to please several types of fans in both game and reading arenas. I for one, am looking forward to his next installment.
Rating: Summary: Unlike any Other Book(or anything based on a video games Review: Many people think that things like movies that are based on video games really suck. Actually.........they're right. But these books are diferent. They were made by a talented author called Eric Nylund, who can make books that are pretty cool. The first book talks about the developing of the super-soldiers known as the Spartans, and the desperate defense of the planet Reach. The second book talks about the war on Halo, through the eyes of Covenant aliens, human soldiers, and the Master Chief Johnathan. Last but not least, the third one talks about how the Master chief rescues some marines from the remains of Halo, and creates a daring plan to-actually, I should'nt tell you. If you like books about war, futuristic stuff, and the fact that the main character is an invincible alien killer, then this is your game. Totally recommended!
Rating: Summary: Very Well Written Review: A very innovative look on the war between the Covenant and the Humans. The novel is very well written, and one can find suspense and humor throughout its pages. It's very interesting to read a book where the Humans are losing so badly - it's a unique point of view, the losing side that is. This book fully explains all events leading up to the X-Box game itself, and makes you appreciate the game all the more.
Rating: Summary: A touching, inspirational, perfect story. Review: This novel is a must for Sci-Fi literature and Halo fans alike. Eric Nylund is one of the best authors whom's books I have ever read. His vocabulary is impressive, the story is very original, and it will keep you hooked to the book reading it for hours. Nylund's characterization of the different figures, new ones to the novel and old ones from the game, is perfect. The characters in the novel seem as though they could exist in the real world. The novel is touching to the heart because of the hardships the team must endure in the face of death from their alien enemies, the Covenant. For those who have read Halo: The Fall of Reach, and enjoyed Nylund's work on that book, Halo: First Strike is at LEAST five times better. I rate it a 5-stars out of 5, because it cannot be rated 10 out of 5. My short summary (hopefully non-spoiled): After Halo has been destroyed, the Master Chief ends up in the middle of space with nothing but a fighter with no Slipspace drive, and an AI who cannot help very much given the situation. However, the grim situation is soon turned around for the better when the Master Chief discovers that there was a handful of survivors that made it off of Halo, as well as some other unexpected, but pleasant, company. Together, the squad moves on to plan a way to make it back to Earth, to take over Covenant ships, and survive alone in space while Covenant ships float in every direction, danger lurks everywhere. As with Halo: The Fall of Reach, and the XBOX/PC Game, Halo, expect many twists in the storyline, expect to be shocked, and expect to be hooked to read this book in one night, to want to re-read it, and anxiously await the next book's release. God-willing that Nylund writes the next books. Eric Nylund is such a talented author with his latest works on the Halo books. He should continue writing the stories for the Halo series.
