Rating: Summary: One of the all-time best imaginative books! Review: This book became one of my all time favorites before I was even through with the first chapter. A wonderful classic story of the wicked witch, like you never knew before. Definatly, one you'll read again and again
Rating: Summary: Wonderful book... Review: The imagination with which "Wicked" must have been conceived and written is truly spectacular. Similarly, the creation of the Land of Oz, a place which most children come to know through the original tale, is utterly fascinating. The characters are wonderfully created, and the stories of their lives and how they came to be known as witches in "The Wizard of Oz" is intriguing and thought-provoking. I highly recommend this book to anyone who grew up with "The Wizard of Oz", you will never look at the Wicked Witch of the West the same way again!
Rating: Summary: Fascinating, witty account of the Wicked Witch of the West Review: Wicked is one of the best books I've ever read (twice)! It is incredibly witty both in the style of Maguire's writing and in his imagination of the Witch. This is one of my most recommended books for people who are intelligent and can appreciate a well constructed story that challenges the myth of the Wizard of Oz. Having been frightened as a child by the movie, Wicked allows the opportunity to change our thinking. That it is done in such as way as Maguire's prose and Smith's illustrations makes it that much more enjoyable.
Rating: Summary: It was great! Review: It was a great book filled to the brim with imagery and imagination. The ideas of equality and politcal aspects took this childhood wonder of a book beyond to an adult satire of the world around us.
Rating: Summary: Personally, I always liked the "Wicked Witch" Review: As a child, my favorite movie was the Wizard of Oz. My favorite character is, of course, the witch because I always felt that she was unfairly judged and mistreated. Because of that, I think that this book is fantastic. I knew she wasn't evil. She's just misunderstood. I never trusted the wizard behind the curtain for even a second. Someone who has to make himself look so powerful definitly has something to hide. The only down side is the last few pages. I don't think that the author knew how to end such a wonderful tale properly. You just have to read this book.
Rating: Summary: Thought-provoking in a sneaky and funny way. Review: This is a classic tale that eloquently illustrates "the other side of the story". After all, sometimes people portray anything they don't understand as "wicked". This is a must read for any adult who has a sense of humor, and might be good for teens to read as well. This is a treasured book in my library, and after you read it, it will become one in yours.
Rating: Summary: Reminds you to always consider both sides of the story. Review: It has been a few months since I read this book and I find myself referring to it on a daily basis. I loved this book and have recommended it to EVERYONE! It is fun to take a different look at a favorite old story.
Rating: Summary: Good Vs. Evil? No, Just an amazing novel of imagination Review: What an amazing novel. Maguire debuts in fine form with his first time out writing a highly original piece on a land we really didn't know at all. Although I wouldn't say there is a indepth portrayal of good and evil I will say that this book was amazing, down right brilliant at times. Don't miss this wonderful read.
Rating: Summary: This book will change your views of The Wizard of Oz Review: This book has so many sexual undertones and subtle references that your imagination cannot help but be captivated. Few books produce a quality reference from a story board, or lack there of. If you like a pictoral of a twisted side, then this would be a book worth reading
