Rating: Summary: Hillarious!! Review: "Island Of Life" is absolutely the funniest comedy I've read in the past twenty years. This author, Stephen, sure knows how to tickle the ribs. Tears were running down my face before I finished the first chapter, and I barely made it to the bathroom before an accident happened. You sir, are a funny man with words, and have a wonderful sense of humor to share. I look forward to more of your work in the future, with pleasure. Thanks for the laughs Stephen. Linda....librarian.
Rating: Summary: A Review from Scribes World Review: 'Island of Life' by Stephen R. Foster ISBN 1-59129-922-5Island of Life is a myth. Somewhere out in the wide ocean, there's an island where life is . . . different. And somewhere on the island is the Singing Lady, who will answer one question. That's where Peter and Susan find themselves, in an Alice in Wonderland sort of adventure. Talking squirrels and turtles straight from the 1960s, demons from some unknown underworld, and strange and wonderful berries. Did Peter and Alice really find it? Or was it just a joint (pun intended) hallucination? Foster's imagination shows through on every page and a wondrous thing it is. But (and I admit, this might be one of those Mars/Venus sorts of things). Peter's antics and troubles that he finds himself in are, well, imaginary. He's not, unfortunately, a hero, although he rather fancies himself as one. Susan, on the other hand, is two-dimensional. We can't quite get a grip on who she is or why she hangs around with Peter. And the plot-well, because anything can happen-and does-we don't find ourselves worrying about whether or not Peter and Susan will overcome their obstacles. We know they will, even if they just find a convenient magic berry. So, unfortunately, the suspense just isn't there. Still, the author's imagination is what draws the book together. And that, in a way, is suspenseful-because as readers we simply don't know what he'll come up with on the next page. Perhaps the best way to look at this book is as an exercise in imagination. Imagine that!-Reviewed by: Ann Beardsley
Rating: Summary: Great Comedy!! Mind Blowing Fantasy!! Review: I'm a High Schooler in Dublin Ohio, and a book reader at heart. I must say, "Island Of Life" is one of the very best comedy/fantasy books I have ever had the pleasure to read. It is what I would personally call, "The most relatable book to lives adolescent years that has come along in all of my reading and learning years. So many of the hillarious stories within the book are so familiar, I felt I was the main character. I would strongly recommend this marvelous comedy to all middle-schoolers, high-Schoolers, and college students-you will laugh till you hurt!~ Let's don't forget the hidden fantasy within either, which is of itself, a story, within a story, within a story; a colorfully written storyline about a kaleidoscope world of magical legend, and wild berries growing on the vines, just waiting to be picked and take the reader to new, and higher heights of euphoria. Congratulations by me, and friends, on this being one of the funniest, and most entertaining books for high school students that we've ever read. Big Thumbs Up!!
