Rating: Summary: Another enjoyable book by this author! Review: This author always seems to write such original characters. Jack and Pris are a wonderful couple, each one an individual and not trying to change the other. The supporting characters are well-written, keeping the story entertaining. I was especially touched by depiction of Jack's grief at the loss of Camille. The plot was never predictable, the pages kept turning to see what would happen next. I can't wait to read her next book.
Rating: Summary: Simply Divine Review: This book is not your usual cup of tea. The hero is in love with another woman for the first half of the book, and it is only through the second half that he falls in love with the heroine. Yet, throughout the book Ms Hingston writes almost like Laura Kinsale, with elegance and grace. I had to wake up at 7 the followind day when I started reading this, but I couldn't stop even when the clock chimes 3 in the morning! It was then I knew I have a keeper in my hands. Simply wonderful. I finish this book with a smile on my face. True, the book may be about 100 pages too long, but hey, if you want an easy elegant read with a likeable couple, don't miss this.
Rating: Summary: Do Yourself a Favor and Leave This Book on the Shelf Review: This book was a terrible example of both Hingston's work and the romance genre. The hero, Jack Cantrell, is at the mercy of the lovers charm he wears around his neck. First one woman claims him, only releasing him from her spell upon her death. Jack then falls in love (apparently without help from the mystic arts) with the Bishop's daughter, Priscilla and they get engaged. Priscilla is sickly sweet. How sickly sweet? Well, Jack's evil mistress puts a spell on Jack, causing him to jilt Priscilla and spend a week shacking up with the evil mistress in an orgy of drinking, smoking, and, of course, sex. Priscilla forgives him for this transgression since Jack was under a spell. At this point, I stopped reading the book. Jack had no self determination. He was at the mercy of whoever knew the secrets of his lovers' charm. Romance novels are supposed to provide an escape. But who wants a man with no will of his own who runs around on his fiancee in real life, let alone in fantasy? Save yourself the 4-6 hours of reading time and skip this book.
Rating: Summary: Entertaining Review: This book was hard to put down, loved the heroine.
Rating: Summary: Thoroughly entertaining and thought-provoking. Review: When Jack Cantrell returns to his home in Lincolnshire after 10 years in the Caribbean, it spells trouble for all concerned. Jack must leave his beloved mistress, and his brother's death has left him with the title of earl, a decrepit manor, and a family in shambles. When Jack first meets his brother's ex-fiance, he can't figure out how his nasty brother wound up engaged to a bishop's daughter. But there are plenty of surprises in store for him as he works to undo the damage his brother has done, to Priscilla Wilcox and to the family. I thoroughly enjoyed this entertaining story. My favorite thing about the book was how Priscilla "came into her own" as the story progressed, and it was refreshing to read about a heroine who was average-looking, rather than beautiful--it's easier for the typical woman to relate to. I also liked that fact that Hingston brings some controversial issues into play. Keep up the good work, Ms. Hingston!
