Rating: Summary: It is one book I will never forget! Review: Since I read this book some twenty years ago I have recounted the story to many people. An excellent read. It brings together a variety of fascinating topics/stories culminating in a very plausible theory. The reader will be entranced from beginning to end. Unfortunately I lent it out - never to be returned again. I have been searching libraries and second hand book stores for it since. Highly recommended to all!
Rating: Summary: Global warming ring a bell ? Review: The personal drama that is used as a backdrop to this story, which offsets the scientific theories which may scare some readers away. Don't let it! Even those without sci-fi leanings will find this an intriguing read. Are we truly reaching for the ultimate in technology or lagging behind those who have gone before us? I've loaned out copies, never returned. NEVER AGAIN
Rating: Summary: Outstanding tale that may indeed contain some kernal of trut Review: A recent UPI story talked about the possible ancient tilting ot the earth on its axis - an explanation of ferns found in Antarctica, hidden rivers found by imaging radar in deserts. Brought to mind HAB Theory. Fantastic read. Well written in all aspects: plot, characters, history, and (mostly) science. Intriquing all the way. Also: an EASY read - which counts when pressed for time but still searching for quality material. Highly recommended....
Rating: Summary: Simply a SUPERB Yarn Review: I first read this book 20 or so years ago, having borrowed it from the library. Subsequently, I bought copy after copy after copy, none of which were ever returned after having loaned them to friends. I last read it again, for the 7th or 8th time, about 12 months ago and the chills it sent shivering down my spine are no less tingling today then they were 20 years ago. Be warned! After your first reading, you will be forever haunted with the book's plausability! I'd pay handsomely to acquire a copy (which I'd never EVER loan again! PROMISE!)
Rating: Summary: One of my all time favorites, for all time. Review: I first read this book in Germany on a 2 week holiday. I kept hoping it was time to get back on the train so I could get back to it. This happened in 1978, I imagine at the time the book was first released. I have been looking for a copy ever since.
Rating: Summary: Velikovsky would be proud! Review: The geology here is very slightly shaky, but the story is a riveting one. This sounds a lot like what Velikovsky has postulated. The book is a very good read. It holds your attention without being preachy. It does its job - it provokes thought. Science Fiction is supposed to enterain you while making you question your own life. The story can scare you out of your wits.
Rating: Summary: Where does science merge with fiction? Review: This is the one book in my library that I will never ever loan to anyone. I found it in a used book store in an old house on Capital Hill in Seattle. I too first read the book over ten years ago and have been haunted with wondering about where science and fiction meet and merge in this novel. Are there any geologists, archeologists etc out there who have read this book?
Rating: Summary: One of the 10 best reading experiences of my life. Review: I first read The H.A.B. Theory over 10 years ago. I simply could not put the book down! While the plot was interesting enough to keep me reading, the scientific facts that have stumped experts for centuries were simply riviting.Somewhere along the line, I lost my copy and would love to find another. If you haven't read this book, by all means, give it a try. It will occupy all your free time till you finish!
Rating: Summary: Eckert's The Hab Theory, Best SF Ever Review: I first read this book over 10 years ago and couldn't put it down. My copy is now in peices and held together by tape. If I could find it I'de buy a dozen to give to friends. Right now I'de settle for one for myself.
Rating: Summary: Incredible !! Review: An incredible story that will haunt you, possibly for the rest of your life. As you read you begin to see signs everywhere verifying this theory. From the first chapter with Herbert Alan Boardman making wax bullets, to the last words of this novel, the reader is taken on a journey never to be forgotten. My first edition copy (found in a little book store in Roseburg, Oregon) is one of my greatest treasures!! I would love to see a movie of this story. Mr. Speilburg; are you listening???
