Rating: Summary: I'm very sorry Review: It's me again. I have another review down there somewhere. I recently reread this book and realized that there were some mistakes in my review. first the characters: Bossk-dead on target. He did not die in Prize Pelt. He dug out I think. Dengar-too wimpy. His character was okay but he wasn't the physical speciman we know from Payback. 4-LOM-his appearance in Hard Merchandise makes him out to be just a little flat. He seems to simply tolerate Zuckess rather than be friends with him. At least Jeter tells us why. (The events of Sahdows of the Empire.) Zuckess-too stupid, whiny and not intuitive enough. Nothing els to be said. Boba Fett-close to the target but Crispen, Moran and Montogomery did a better job. IG-88-Yes he did exist and the character was dead on too. IG-88 was created around I think a year and a half to two years after ANH. The THEN part of this book takes place around two and a half years after ANH. Check Ted Edwards Timeline in the excellent Unarthorized Star Wars Compendium.
Rating: Summary: Can you say "barve?" Review: First of all, I nearly gagged from reading the word "barve" on every page. I wonder if the author knows what a thesaurus is...? But I haven't read any of this author's other works, so I can't judge how the book campares to them. Second, I had a hard time keeping the time jumps straight. I found that if I took a day off from reading the book, I had to re-read a bit of the previous chapter in order for it to make sense. Thirdly, I almost fried my brain trying to figure out who was out to get who, and what everyone's motive was, etc. I haven't read Tales of the Bounty Hunters yet, but it seemed like Bossk was an adolescent heading for an anger-management program, and Zuckuss was too dang dense to even be a bounty hunter. From what I've heard, these characterizations are not accurate, based on other Star Wars material. However, I liked the Dengar/Neelah storyline, and I dig Prince Xizor. All in all, it was so-so, but not great.
Rating: Summary: Avoid this trilogy like the Deathseed Plague Review: Before I get down to the review, I want to issue a disclaimer. I respect Jeter's work in every other story of his I've read; he writes VERY well. If that were not the case, Lucasfilm Ltd. wouldn't have let him write this trilogy in the first place. Now for the review itself. "The Bounty Hunter Wars" trilogy is, unfortunately, execrable. It's a blot on Jeter's otherwise exceptional career. I mean, forget that Boba Fett has already been set as an interstellar Clint Eastwood-type who rarely speaks and thinks he's upholding the law. Forget that Zuckuss is one of the most sucessful and respected bounty hunters -- who also uses Gand speech patterns and refers to himself in the third person. Forget that Bossk also ranks high in the profession and is about 54 years old, hardly a neophyte. Forget that there is more than one bounty hunter Guild; House Benelex Guild, House Tresario Guild, etc. etc. outlined in several volumes of source material which have come before. No, let's make Fett a loquacious, evil sonnuvagun, Zuckuss a whiny greenhorn who speaks like everyone else, Bossk a young idiot, and have only one guild of bounty hunters. Let's just ignore everything which has been written before. This series, which had SO much potential, was ruined by the apparent lack of research into already-published source material. I hate to cut down someone's work, especially when so much time has been put into it, but this trilogy is just plain disappointing. If you're not really a "Star Wars" fan just looking for a good read filled with duplicity and back-stabbing, then you'll probably like this book. If you're a die-hard "Star Wars" fan, however, you'd probably best save your money. Buy something ELSE Jeter has written. I can almost guarantee you won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: Great premise....not such a great book Review: I normally avoid any sci-fi books like the plague. I am an avid Star Wars fan though. So, the premise of Boba Fett surviving the Sarlacc's digestion was intriguing. Then I found myself wound up in the author's world where the bounty hunter's are at war with one another. Like most Star Wars novels, the writing is dull and witless.
Rating: Summary: Who is the real Boba Fett? We'll never know Review: Well I generally like Jeter and his style of writing so what happened here? Hated the way the storyline jumped back and forth in time, and I was more interested in Dengar and the slave Neelah (who ended up hardly being in the book at all) than the basic one-dimensional members of the Bounty Hunters Guild. Where HAVEN'T we read characters like that before - in every darn book that's where! Use stereotypes much? Well background and some personal histories would have been compelling, but too bad for us. This book was not what I had hoped it would be. And how many times do you have to use the word "barve" and the adjectives "obsequious" and "coruscating" before you're all used up? Geez.
Rating: Summary: Boba Fett is a lot better than Luke Skywalker Review: A friend of mine read The Mandalorian Armor, I guess that's why I read it. After reading other Star Wars books about Luke Skywalker it's good to read one that's actually about the better characters (Boba Fett). The best part was the battle at the Shell hutts' planet. I'm going to agree with the last person that 'Barve' was WAY overused. If you're a Boba Fett fan read this book.
Rating: Summary: bait and switch Review: At last the story of Bobba Fett, well not quite! I was looking forward to reading a great SW story about the most enigmatic character from the movies and what did I get? A warmed over plot about Tertiary characters, and the main character is unconscieous for half the book! My biggest gripe is that we are not even treated to the slightest history about the famed armor. Come on, it's the title of the book. I am sorry Jeter decided to phone this one in. And finally, I hate stories that jump back and forth in time every chapter, a plot mechanism best reserved for 3 out of every 4 star trek books.
Rating: Summary: BOSSK AND ZUCKUSS WERE TOGETHER THANK YOU VERY MUCH Review: As my title should have indicated to everyone, I am well aware that Bossk and Zuckuss were partners in this book. Next step, get over it. 4-LOM wasn't in the book. Maybe that is why Bossk and Zuckuss were working together. Granted Dengar didn't act like the superman we thought we knew, but oh well, he is in love (regardless of what we think about this, it did happen. Like he says in Tales of the Bounty Hunters now he has something to lose.) Barve was a little over used. Maybe a lot. Okay, I'll be happy if I never hear the word again. Now I'm going to get over it. I agree that Xixor should not have appeared in this book. He is perhaps the only villian that I really hated. I was so stinking when that barve was blown to atoms at the end of Shadows of the Emprire by Steve Perry, nicknamed the b-word. (Barve)
Rating: Summary: Slow at first, but makes sense later... Review: I liked this book fairly because it was creative and did an alright job of representing the Star Wars universe. It contained many Star Wars characters such as Boba Fett, Bossk, Zuckuss, Cradossk, and Kuat of Kuat. It also helped me develop my vocabulary skills and sharpen my reading skills. I also liked the author and look forward in reading other books that he has written, including the Star Wars books. I also look forward in reading the rest of the Bounty Hunters Wars trilogy (this was book 1 of 3). The book was about Boba Fett escaping the Sarlacc Pit in which he was swallowed om Return of the Jedi. Dengar then finds Boba Fett in the Dune Sea and revived Fett from death. Along the way Dengar teams up with Fett and a slave named Neelah. Word gets out the Boba Fett is dead and could be in serious danger. At the same time, this book takes a look at Boba Fett's past. Alien Bounty Hunters Bossk and Zuckuss are trying to collect a bounty, only to find Boba Fett taking the bounty first. Again they battle in their space ships in outer space with Boba Fett taking another win. Later on Boba Fett is forced to join the Bounty Hunters Guild and team up with Bossk and Zuckuss as well as a new bounty hunter. The ending goes directly into the next book in the Bounty Hunters Wars, Slave Ship, which I am currently reading.
Rating: Summary: a well written book that covers the hidden side of the SWU. Review: Wonderfully written. The auther totaly understand politics and adds in enough suspence to get you through the really descriptive parts. I couldn't put it down. He totally describes the life of a crimal trying to make an "honest living". Very similar to "Shadows of the Empire" without the romance and the including of the main charactors.
