Rating: Summary: Anonymous Rex Review: a good book and detective story with a twist, leaves you trying to figure out the solution to the mystery yourself. an original idea and although it is humorous, it still has enough seriousness for the average mystery novel.
Rating: Summary: Just The Facts, Please. Review: A wonderfully oddball idea. But what's going on? Where's the origin chapter? Every comic book I ever read had an origin issue. Batman, Superman, The Flash, Hulk, Spiderman...all of them. And so I couldn't leave my disbelief at the door long enough to allow dinosaurs to don human costumes and speak language, etc., because I was never told how the whole dino thing came about. I couldn't even finish the book because I wasn't allowed access to the KEY. All I could do was riffle the pages looking for the origin chapter before giving up in disgust. Bah!
Rating: Summary: I can never look at a female Allosaurus the same way again! Review: Although it takes a slight suspension of dis-belief to accept the premise that dinosaurs faked their extinction and are wandering around disguised as humans, this book is very enjoyable. I am a dino-nerd so I also found some technical flaws, but they can be easily overlooked in what has to be the best hard-boiled dinosaur novel ever written. I recommend that anyone, mammal or reptile, who wants to be entertained read this book. This book is not a one-trick pony -- or a one-trick stegosaurus for that matter. The dinosaur jokes do not get stale.
Rating: Summary: Amazing -- Can't wait for more Rex... Review: And now I'm a Rex-a-holic. Got this book after initial skepticism, on advice from a friend. And after the first ten pages, I didn't put the thing down, except for bathroom breaks and some food. Just about the funniest damn thing I've read in a long, long time, and Garcia keeps the twists coming. If you can figure out the end of this book before it happens, write me and I'll give you a prize. Wonderful book -- get beyond your own thoughts and read it now!
Rating: Summary: Dino Noir Review: As expected, this book was the usual combination of detective yarn and... uh... dino flick? True, the 2 don't seem to combine well but that is where Garcia's book has its greatest success. Some of the elements are laugh out loud funny and to top it all off, its a pretty clever detective story. Certainly great summer reading. growl. You never know who to trust...

Rating: Summary: So much for extinction Review: Cross an apex predator with Sam Spade, spend a lot of evolutionary time reading Raymond Chandler and you have a serviceable approximation of Vincent Rubio, the hero and protagonist of this story. But that's just a hint of the fun to come. There's action, sleuthing, wise-cracking, science, sleaze and high society along with a clever plot and our hero moves deftly through it with a lot of grace for a guy with a tail and wearing a girdle. The pre-quel, 'Casual Rex' is in the works, by the way.
Rating: Summary: It's JJ Walker!! Review: Dino-mi-i-i-ite!! Aah...someone my own age, 26, who relies on his talents as a creative story teller to communicate to his audience, rather than on the pretentious appeal of post Gen-x (blech!!) cynicism. I appreciate the allegiance to the hard-boiled genre, which the author wears on his sleeve while allowing his imagination to freely stomp the familiar terra. I liked the book to start with, but became even more captivated by its affecting humor after reading an interview with Garcia on the www.anonymousrex.com web site, wherein the author seems the type genuinely inclined to fulfillment. Being pursuant of such worthwhile pleasure shows in his writing. I'll read the next book, I'll see the screen adaption, and one day -- when the franchise has been run through the plot mill's detail cog for the umpteenth installment (see the web site for Garcia's grand plan) -- I'll remark about the author, "Yeah...but I really dig on his old stuff."
Rating: Summary: GARCIA'S TALE Review: Eric Garcia has created an alternate universe of private eyes, dinosaurs and humans, where people are never quite what they seem and danger lurks around most corners. Clever and "fiercely" original, Garcia spins a highly unusual tale mixed with social commentary and satire. Highly recommended and four very big stars for originality. You will never look at a basil leaf the same.
Rating: Summary: Put this book in the winner's circle! Rare & one of a kind! Review: Eric Garcia has written a fabulous, humorous and highly entertaining novel. The first page grabbed my attention and from then on I couldn't put the book down; stayed up all night reading it and when finished I wished it was longer....I am going to recommend that the English and creative writing teachers on my faculty incorporate it into their curriculum. Let's hear more from Mr. Garcia...and soon!!! (Is it possible we might find this on the silver screen in the near future? It could be quite a film!)
