Rating: Summary: Myths Review: A myth, or a story that is considered factually untrue, but nonetheless important because it provides insight into a culture's history, values and belief system, is a very vital method that express things that might not be true, but that everybody needs to know. In Point of Impact, Mr. Piecznik, the writer of the novel, uses the myth of Thor the Greek God to express feelings of power, and strength. Take this passage, for example. "Seventeen times he had swung Thor's magic hammer, and not once a bad trip." If the reader were not familiar with Greek Mythology, he/she would probably be confused by that passage. Obviously, the character mentioned here is not actually swinging Thor's hammer. The hammer is a symbol of power and absolutely corrupting strength that fills him when he uses a drug. Therefore, the myth element plays a very key role in this novel. Thor's hammer is also a symbol. It symbolizes the feeling, as well as the figure of authority that inspires this character while he is under the influence. That is another point. If fear were a literary device, it would also play a key role in this novel. The only reason that the character is able to assume this authoritative position is because any one that would happen across him would be petrified. Just think about it, a man, not exceptionally tall, maybe 5'8", carrying a mail truck on his shoulders. It would allow him to essentially take over. Pegasus, Thor, and Zeus are all myths. But without them, our society would have no cultural, international, or creative values.
Rating: Summary: my review Review: A very special drug has been designed by a chemist/dealer. This drug has an enormous effect on people and is being sought after not only by the DEA, but also by most Pharmaceutical companies. Only Net Force has the capability to find the people behind it.This is the typical plot by Tom Clancy, but always very entertaining. There could be some extra technical information, but I am sure some tech buffs just love this! The characters are real, interesting and interact well. Places and situations are also interesting and the plot never gets bored. Good reading.
Rating: Summary: POINT OF IMPACT - Wired dot.com thriller Review: An elite federal agency of Internet cops goes after a California dude whose chemistry set includes the wherewithal to manufacture a superman designer drug that is probably immune to kryptonite. Bunsen burner hot shot Bobby Drayne sells purple capsules of Thor (God of thunder) to his rich web clients at a grand a pop. With Thor in their veins, they enjoy hours of ecstasy and ultra strength of body and mind that has the U.S. government and the pharmaceutical companies green with envy. The military application of Thor would give new meaning to the notion of charging up a hill; and the drug companies would salivate for a Viagra pill for the rest of the body. The stage is set to find the source of the purple wonder. NET FORCE: POINT OF IMPACT is the fifth in the Tom Clancy inspired Internet mystery series. It is nouveau pulp fiction: fast paced, action packed, with thinly-developed characters whose role is to drive the storyline ahead at lightning speed. POINT OF IMPACT delivers on the pulp fiction promise. It is guilt-free summer reading at its best.
Rating: Summary: Not the usual standard expected of Tom Clancy Review: Be warned if you do not like bad language you will have a problem with this book. I put up with it until page 299 and decided no more. I found the plot interesting but contrived and certainly no comparison with his previous books. I then took another look at the book cover and realized I had been conned. Tom Clancy didn't even write it. There it was in large letters Tom Clancy, to catch my eye in the bookshop. At the bottom in very small letters, created by Tom Clancy and Steve Pieczenih WRITTEN BY Steve Perry. Need I say more except how very disappointed I feel.
Rating: Summary: Good Book Review: Exiting through the whole thing.... The climax(about the last 100 pages) is full of action and susspense.... I highly recomend this book.
Rating: Summary: disappointing Review: First off, the first thing that turned me off from this work was the obsession the author has with swearing and the many times he profanes the name of God or of Jesus Christ. I have enjoyed many of Clancy's earlier works and none have had such problems. And although as an evangelical Christian, I may not be the typical reader of such novels but I have always liked good military fiction and also having served for seven years, I have read and heard it all but this was a bit much. Secondly, some of the high-tech gadgetry seemed rather confusing and kind of out of place. The whole bit about common day computer interfaces as we know them today being replaced by some type of VR interface (and in just a few short years from now) that seems like a hybrid of the VR interface in Lawnmower man and the Holodecks of Star Trek was totally unbelievable. In one section, a user of this technology describes walking in a cool stream.. and they described feeling the cool water rushing over their feet. How am I supposed to envision this? There is very little description of the VR interface and the supposed technology behind it. I just didn't get it. However, that's not all. Apparently, the whole purpose of the interface was that it was engineered to perform searches and queries of crime and intel data systems. Obviously it is meant to replace the arcane method of using a qwerty keyboard, the typical CRT and your favorite mouse. That doesn't seem like a very intuitive or provocative use of such an advanced system. I mean how productive would it be to take your average desk jockey, and immerse them into this system to go track some bad guy when they would most likely change the "programming" at the first opportunity and be surfing perfect waves off the north shore or off sailing along with the dolphins in Micronesia. Lastly, the ending was awful. Not to give out to much, but it's an extremely violent ending that terminates abruptly on the very last page of the book. This is then followed by an epilogue that has the hero's literally sitting around talking over coffee (or was it a beer) as if what just happened was an everyday event. Bottom line, this is the worse book I've ever read with the name of Tom Clancy on the cover.

Rating: Summary: Good tech thriller Review: I liked this book a lot. It was quite full of technical details, which tend to catch my interest. The characters are well-developed and unique, and the climax is tense and full of action. One of the better Net Force books by far.
Rating: Summary: On the edge... Review: I normally don't read Clancy, I admit, because of his ability to detail a book to death. I'm reading books for fun and enjoyment, and this hit the mark. What a great book, seriously. It grabbed me from the begining and held me til the end. I liked it so much that I read while I walked to work everyday. I've already ordered 4 net force books and can't wait til they come. -bernzy
Rating: Summary: One of the best Review: I thought it was one of the best thriller books i've ever read! Kept me on the edge of my seat the whole time!
