Summary: Fun Series
Review: The Area 51 series is good, pulp fiction. A bit over the top, but if you like UFO conspiracies and history, this book is for you.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Looking back this is amazing.
Review: Looking back on this series now that I just finished book 5 I see the place of this novel better. It sets up quite a bit especially what happens in the Sphinx and the whole Sir Richard Francis Burton thing. I'm amazed someone could have thought through all this so far ahead-- years in the making. A GREAT SERIES.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Good continuation of the series
Review: I came onto this series late and have read the first four books in order. This book is not the best, but it's still strong. It moves the plot forward and introduces the Mission which has apparently had a big role in our history. Now I have to check out the Grail.

Summary: Good, but ...
Review: "The Mission" is the third in a series of 4 (soon to be 5) books by Doherty relating to fictional events surrounding the existence of aliens on Earth. The premise of the series is quite interesting. Area 51 is a top secret government installation that has been studying aliens for a long time. Actions by the researchers have re-ignited a civil war between two alien factions that landed on Earth a long time ago. The story ties the aliens into many of the mysteries of ancient times, e.g., the existence of Atlantis, the Ark of the Covenant, the building of the Sphinx and the Pyramids in Egypt, and even the building of the Great Wall of China.

What I found most interesting about the series is how Doherty ties together many of these historical enigmas into Area 51 and the history of the aliens. The work seems to be researched quite well and the first two books in the series (Area 51 and Area 51 The Reply) are both entertaining and satisfying.

This book, however entertaining, suffers from a fatal flaw in my opinion. Many subplots in the book are begun but not completed within the book's pages. Whereas the first two books are pretty well self-contained (i.e., the story ends at the end of the book), subplots in this book and the 4th book (Area 51 The Sphinx) are not completed before the end of the book. They leave the reader hanging until the next book is purchased. By the time I got half way through Area 51 The Sphinx, I became tired of everything dragging on and not knowing how many of the subplots will end. I wonder if they will even end with the publication of the next book (Area 51 The Grail).

I have sworn off reading any more books in the series because of the unsatisfying feeling I had at the completion of Area 51 The Sphinx. It is a shame, actually, that such a great premise and a great start to a series seems to have degenerated into a tactic just to sell the next book in the series.

Summary: Awesome story
Review: The Area 51 series is one of the better sci-fi book series I have read recently. I really enjoyed this book and all the other ones. The story just gets bigger and bigger with each book I can't imagine what's next.

Summary: Excellent, Excellent Book!
Review: Very good book. I picked this up by chance while shopping for other more widely known Sci-Fi but this turned out to be enthralling, imaginative, intelligently written, and fast paced. I am already halfway through the second book and find myself looking forward to the next book and the "soon-to-be-released" volumes.

Book follows the lives of several different people from different walks of life and each character was written with a diverse and fascinating life story. From the duty-crazy area 51 commander to the former Nazi scientist to the white house scientific advisor these are all well written characters that will keep you glued to this book.

I recommend the book to anyone with even a passing interest in Area 51, government conspiracies, or aliens.

P.S. There is a screenplay created for this book already so I can't be the only one who liked it.

Summary: Good continuation of the series
Review: Following the REPLY, this book brought the plot deeper by introducing The Mission, a mysterious group affecting the course of human history. Juggling both the currrent plot line of a biological threat and delving into history, the author keeps a tight grip on the story.

Summary: Super series
Review: I got hooked with THE ROCK. This author's first book. Since then I've read everything he's put out and enjoyed them all. I like the way Devil's Island, the Great Wall, and many other real places are brought into this story. Very imaginative.

Summary: Don't Be Fooled...
Review: Despite the apparent intriguing story-line, you should not let yourself be fooled into buying this book. That is, unless you enjoy (and have free time on your hands) to piece together the complicated twists and turns, the MANY names and places and the 500 or so pages of useless "National Security" information. The Ebola plot which dominates the back page only appears in a few chapters. Unless you are a fan of the series I find no reason for anybody to buy this book...to summarize... it is CUMBERSOME & TIME CONSUMING....

Summary: Not The Best
Review: Area 51 the Mission that was written by Robert Doherty was not the best. For three differant reasons one, it had tech. terms that nobody would understand; for example DOD, FLTSATCOM. It also had to many characters and you could not keep up with them and forget who everbody was. Finally it was pretty much boring the only action in it was when the man litteraly tore the girl in half with a pistol. When rated it would probably rate a TWO!
