Summary: An Average Story, Light on Fantasy
Review: This is my first Raymond Feist book so I can't compare it to what has been before or since, but this book as a whole screams average. Which is not to say it is a bad book or badly written. The writing was average, i didn't throw the book down in disgust nor did his lingual prowess stupify me. The story was also fairly average, somewhat formulaic with a few shades of uniqueness on occassion. The verdict is: If it's lying around pick it up but don't go out of your way.

The story centers around the adventures of Erik and Roo, primarily Erik, with a few side pages on a magician named Miranda and her search for Pug of Stardock, a Master mage from previous books. Erik and Roo are shanghaied from their comfortable little province outside of Krondor to the far off continent of Novindus where an army of otherworldy lizardmen led by a mysterious Emerald Queen are ravaging the nations there. Prince Nicholas of Krondor believes it is only a matter of time before the lizardmen have laid waste to Novindus and set their red eyes across the sea upon Midkemia. So Erik, Roo and a force of brigands and cutthroats recruited by Calis, an elven son of Tomas (from earlier books), sail to Novindus to join the Emerald Queen's army disguised as mercenary band in an effort to glean information about the forces driving this invasion.

The story is light fantasy, little magic and mostly swordplay. I hope I helped. :)

Summary: Why people like this stuff is a mystery to me...
Review: This is the first Feist I've ever read, and the last I'll ever read. The only epic fantasy I've ever enjoyed has been Weis & Hickman, but I thought, hey, this guy's popular enough; maybe there's something to him. So, I read the whole thing, just so I'd be able to tell for sure that I didn't like it. Well, SOMETIMES I've discovered good books that way--not in this case, though. I swear, this reads like something I would've written in eighth grade. Plot? Hackneyed. Characters? Cliched and boring. Action? Plodding. I don't understand how people can enjoy this. It's really not worth your time to read.

Summary: Legendary Story to to be read
Review: This is the only book that I have read from feist and I think it was fantastic!!!!! I have read the Finnish tranlation and I am waiting for the next book to be bublished and Iam going to byu all Feist's books I can get. My favourite character was Erik and now he is in my top ten character list (right next to Rand Al'Thor, Drizzt Do'Urden , Alvin and Seoman). By the way in the Finnish translation the characters have other words for swearing besides damn.;)

Summary: A good addition
Review: This series is a good addition to the Midekema series. There are new interesting characters and a interesting plot. If you have read Feist's other books this is a must read, if you haven't it is still very good. It has a heated ending that won't let you put the book down.

Summary: From one Army to the next plus a free vacation.
Review: This was the first Fiest book I ever read. It made me feel right at home. I picked up the book two days after getting home from basic training for the U.S. Army Reserves. I jumped right into the book. Within the first week I had read it five times, each time in a single sitting. I felt like I was right with Erik and Roo when they were going thruogh their training. Fiest makes you feel like your part of the book. Whenever I need a vacation to a distant land I pick up one of his books and just sit and readfor hours on end. When I'm done I feel great, like I had the week off and traveled, all the while staying at home sitting in my favorite chair. To top it off I didn't have to spend a penny

Summary: You have to LOVE this author!
Review: Well, Feist... One of todays most prolific fantasy writers! I have just finished re-reading the RIFTWAR and SERPENTWAR sagas, and even though I know all the twists and turns, plotlines, and characters, I always feel welcomed back to the world of Midkemia. See, thats the talent that Feist has; he sucks you in, and never lets you go! He has a rare talent also, to create worlds all too real to our own. The characters are real, even the places seem real. I highly recommend these multi volume epics to any fantasy reader who just wants to slip away to another realm...for all eternity...

Summary: Lots of fun
Review: Well, I picked up my first Feist novel about 10 years ago, and have enjoyed his writing ever since. The Serpentwar Saga is set perhaps 50 years after the end of the Riftwar. If you have not already read Feist's riftwar saga, then I suggest you do so before picking up this book. Also, you should read Prince of the Blood and The King's Buccaneer, because these two "in between" books chronicle the events that lead up to the "Serpentwar".

In general, Feist's writing is clear and entertaining. These books rarely bog down, and are generally a quick read. There is nothing particularly new or genre-altering in Feist's work, but his novels are quite a bit of fun all the same.

I would wholeheartedly recommend the Serpentwar saga to anyone who has already read the Riftwar books and is looking for more. These books won't change your life, but you'll certainly have a great time reading them.

Summary: Another Feist Classic!
Review: While this novel does not compare to the wonder of Magician, Silverthorn, and Sethanon it does start a whole new chapter in the world of Midkemia. The newly introduced characters captivate your attention while there are still enough characters from the previous books to allow fond rememberances. I look forward to the conclusion to this newest tale

Summary: Feist leaves Tolkien in the dust.....
Review: With "Shadow of A Dark Queen" Feist reopens the portal that captures the imagination. When this book came to the stands my heart jumped for joy. I knew beyond a reasonable doubt that Feist would not let me down. I have followed the story since the beggining. I have witnessed the orphan Pug step into his Powers; Winessed Tomas evolve into A Velheru, and have felt the pain of Lord Borric's death.I've read many a book but I've never felt a greater tie to any fictional characters as I do to those on the worlds of Kelewan and Midkemia. Raymond's style of writing keeps you on the edge of your seets like a rollercoaster with a 400ft. drop. He isn't afraid to kill anyone off, but when he does he does it in a way that makes you feel you have just lost a loved one; and indeed you have. My only suggestion to those who haven't read any of his books is this: read as many books as possible before reading any of Feist's novels. Because everything else will pail in comparison after you have giving yourself the privilege of reading his books. Never have I read a series of books that have touched me, heart and soul. Never have I been able to find anyone to rival Tolkien's The Lord of The Rings, until I came upon the novels by Raymond E. Feist. I would give anything to have half The Man's imagination. I bow at his feet and beg him to continue his incredible stories. Until his next saga comes to the stands, this is Eddie wishing Raymond the best of Luck. (If you need any ideas for your next book----I'm your man!)
