Summary: A masterpeice of writting!!!
Review: Feist's book 'Shadow of a Dark Queen' is a great adventure, worthy of praise. The story revolves around an honest, hard working boy named Erik and his mischivous companion Rupert Avery, as they are thrust into the army and shipped off to face unspeakable horrors together. During that time Erik and Roo learn the art of warfare, as they are chased about the continent of Novindus by the Serpent Queen's army of malicious Sauur. The plan of the Queen of darkness is to pilage the world, and only Erik, Roo, and the other men in his small company are left to stop her

Summary: Garbage
Review: Feist's other series was passable. This one was horrible. The characters were unrealistic and stupid. I hated them throughout the whole book and only kept reading because I hoped they would be killed! The whole plot is unbelievable. Using convicts in an army, whatever? If this worked in real life, we could use serial killers in the army, and save money training the real thing!

The characters are shallow and about halfway through the book just suddenly change and become different people. The whole book is just a thinly veiled rewrite of his first series, unfortunately a very poor rewrite.

I will never understand why people enjoyed this garnbage, or why Feist is so popular. If anything he is a very mediocre writer and this latest series was absolute trash.

Summary: Disappointed
Review: I am a HUGE fan of the Riftwar Saga. It's one of my favorite series, and I've read it many times over the years. I also loved the Empire series that he wrote with Wurts.

However, I was very disappointed in this new series. As a matter of fact, I only read the first two books (and what I think about Rise of a Merchant Prince is better left unsaid.)

The characters are shallow. When I read the fake execution scene, I honestly didn't care whether or not they were actually going to make it out alive. And I disliked the character Roo so much that, by the end of Rise of a Merchant Prince, I was wishing that Feist HAD killed him off earlier.

Feist hasn't written anything worth my time and money in the past 10 years, which is sad considering how brilliantly he started off.

Summary: Incredible...if you've read the other books....
Review: I can't stress enough the importance of reading the other books before you start this series. Read Magician1&2, Silverthorn and A Darkness of Sethanon, Prince of the Blood, King's Buccaneer in that order... The people who have rated this book (and perhaps the rest of this series) poor, has obviously not read Mr. Feist's other work. This is a work of art and, Mr. Feist is the only one who even comes close to Terry Goodkind and Robert Jordan as Fantasy authors... Read the others first but eventually you'll have to read these as well!

Summary: Not Logical
Review: I enjoy a good fantasy book, and most of the time I read nothing else. But it seemed to me, as talented Mr Feist is as a writer, as a fantasy writer, 'Shadow of a Dark Queen' sux. for instance, how can he use emotional endearments such as 'mommy' for mother? the term was not created until the nineteenth century. and there are lawyers in the story (of a time tv was not even created) that uses American law at a time when America was not even found! furthermore, there is a specific mention of the zippo lighter in the story (huh?). But there is one point that i find quite unable to accept is when Prince Nicholas was called quite casually 'Nicky' in a formal conversation, and i take it as an insult to my knowledge to medieval culture. Think about it, how was can King Richard I become Ricky? Thomas Beckett become Tommy? It's so outrageous! In conclusion, the book is far too mushy to be of a time where emotions are for women and weak ppl. There is nothing like a good fantasy book, most of all a fantasy book that is believable to its time. there is such a thing as researching before you write a book, and if this book shows how Mr Feist writes ALL his books, then he should write something about the present, even if there will be serpents in them.

Summary: Better than I expected
Review: I got this book with the last of my Christmas gift certificate money. While Feist may not be a Geroge RR. Martin he does manage to craft an enjoyable story with charecters that you can care about, particularly Erik and Roo, but I also like Bingo. There are times when the story seems to fall into a pattern but it never stays there for long.

Wonderful read I think this serise will tide me over untill the next book in A Song of Ice and Fire comes out.

Summary: A very entertaining read
Review: I love Raymond Feist's world of Midkemia. Shadow of a Dark Queen continue the hours of enjoyment I've had reading his books. Again he's given us great characters, Eric and Rupert. Feist has a gift for writing, and he continues to keep me turning the pages well into the night. Bravo
