Summary: Good just got better
Review: I have read all of James Rollins books and have considered them good especially with so few adventure stories out there. But Ice Hunt is the best of the rest. This ranks up there with Cussler, Matt Reilly, and David Dunn. He has developed the characters more than any other of his books. I read this book in one sitting and now will have to wait impatiently for the next one. No, I think I will read this one again and again. Thank you Mr. Rollins.

Summary: Good Read
Review: I just wanted to let everyone know how good ALL OF ROLLINS books are. I discoverd Rollins about 2 months ago. Since then I have read all of his books. I am eagerly awaiting his next novel. Trust me on this one pick up any of his books and I think you will enjoy the ride. Just my 2 cents worth.

Summary: Reading entertainment at its best! Two thumbs up!
Review: I'm not going to bother giving you a synopsis of the storyline for this novel, the publisher's blurb preceding these reviews does a fine job of that. Personally, I think this book is probably the most action packed of Rollins' collection of novels. I was hooked by page 25, talking to myself as I cheered on the good guy as he escaped from snipers by page 59, was forgetting to make myself some supper by page 150, living on popcorn and Coke Classic by page 300 with nothing on my mind but reaching the end of this fun ride! This book is packed with nail biting chases and battles, a white knuckle plane ride in the first 100 pages that will leave you breathless and hoping you see it on the big screen one day and more than enough interesting twists and turns to make you drool with anticipation and suspense. I won't give anything away in regards to the base storyline or what you'll find lurking deep in that ice station but believe me, it will be worth the time you invest to read this book. All the excitement comes together into a climactic ending that will make your jaw drop. Rollins incorporated a nice mix of different characters, some more intense than others but all relevant to the storyline and for moving it forward. An absolutely brilliant story with a very imaginative ending. I absolutely LOVED this book!!! This was how action/adventure was meant to be written!

Summary: THIS IS THE ONE I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR!!
Review: I've been a reading fan of this man's novels since his first one - subterranean. But to my distress, the resulting next couple of books fell well short, but we're still good.
But I knew he had not reached his all-time high yet.
And here, James Rollins has finally raised the bar on his own writing, taking it to the next level in maximum entertainment.
Like his competition, Matthew Reilly, James Rollins gives us heart-stopping, non-stop action/adventure in the artic wastelands.
But unlike Reilly, James Rollins puts in more characterization to his main protagonists, making his readers actually feel for the main characters loss and redemption.
Matt Pike and his ex-wife were a thrill to read about. From their pained past to their slow and strange way of getting back together again, Rollins weaves a tale with so many twists and turns that it's virtually impossible to put the book down.
If you like wild romps through reading fast-paced adventure with everything thrown in - from monsters to Soviet and American Special Forces - and more inbetween, then this one's for you!
A must read for anyone who loves adventure and romance.
Thanks James for entertaining me to the utmost once again.
Looking forward to what you will bring us next...

Summary: Definitely an "Eeeeeee" Ticket!
Review: Ice Hunt was a fun surprise for my reading circle. Our consensus: Hoo-yah! Each of us liked it, often for very different reasons. I enjoy how Rollins mixes people, critters, and circumstances to give us a rippin' good, high-energy tale. The people in this story kept us turning the pages from one fast-paced scene to the next. Even the secondary characters are interesting, but I must admit that I had found my favorite in Matt, the Fish & Game guy, by page 2 of chapter one.

Ice Hunt presents a vivid sense of place, whether in the "Cyclops" chamber of a research submarine, the Brooks Range in Alaska, or the turns and wormhole twists of a creepy crawlspace carved into the polar ice. Rollins weaves science and nature into the plot (boy, does he!) and lets characters use their expertise in their own branch of science to deal what is thrown at them. I recommend this heartily. The only caution I have is: be careful how much caffeine you drink before and while reading. This story will get your blood pumping!

Summary: Terrific Techno-Thriller
Review: In Ice Hunt, James Rollins has written a fast-paced thriller of 500+ pages that incorporates everything a reader of this genre would want. There are well-developed and believable protagonists, evil villians, and many characters that are not what they seem to be. There is a huge amount of techonology and off-the-edge science that makes the book a real departure. Rollins is a ready user of the cliffhanger, thrill-ride approach. It has been a long time since I have been so transported by the relentless threats our heroes face. This nice fat book gives ample time for a very complex plot to evolve, develop the characters and set the technology / biological issues in motion. I highly recommend it for a fun, exciting escapist read. It leaves you breathless at the end, like a world class rollercoaster.

Summary: Arctic cold war
Review: In James Rollins' "Ice Hunt" a lethal race to the North Pole between the U.S. and Russia developes when a defunct and abandoned Russian ice station is discovered by a U.S research team stationed nearby. The station called Ice Station Grendel is a vertitable morgue of frozen Russian personnel. It harbors a terrifying secret that both sides are striving to suppress. It also is the habitat of a dangerous, thought to be mythical creature called a grendel, a bipedal ferocious and ravenous beluga whale type of beast that lurks in the labrynthine ice caves surrounding the station.

Russian forces are lead by Admiral Viktor Petkov, commander of the Northern Fleet. Petkov's father Vladimir, who disappeared years ago, a brilliant scientist was the head of Ice Station Grendel. The U.S forces lead by Captain Greg Perry, commander of the sub Polar Sentinel are supplimented by a group of unlikely civilians. Matt Pike, an Alaskan fish and game warden and his ex-wife Jennifer Aratuk, a sheriff for the native Alaskan tribes are sucked into this conflict. They both aided in the rescue of a Seattle reporter Craig Teague from a plane crash in the Alaskan wilderness. They follow Teague into the mess that developes in Ice Station Grendel.

Rollins formulates a pulsating and rollicking imaginative adventure that displays his extensive creativity. He continues to demonstrate his uncanny ability to combine science with fantasy in a chillingly horrific and entertaining manner

Summary: Rollins' Best Book Yet!
Review: In my opinion this is his best book yet and an unusually good read! The book startes with a confrontation with polar bears, then a rescue from a crashed plane. Another plane drops a couple of armed men determined to see that the crash left no survivors. From one trouble to another the book keeps going at jet speed all the way to the end. Along the way there are several sub-plots, numerous unexpected plot twists and, at the end, the worst fate for one person I could possibly imagine. Just when you think you're safe, Rollins finishes with an appendix explaining how major points of the fictional story are based on factual events! Something like this *could* happen! Now that's really scary! Despite the pace of the book, Rollins takes time to develop his characters and make them seem real. He also painted the arctic scenes so vividly that I can still picture them some weeks after finishing the book. Highly recommended but I have to warn you... other books are going to seem pretty tame after this one!

Summary: Beneath the ice, Hell has frozen over!
Review: It's almost an accident: a research sub stumbles upon a lost military base settled deep beneath the ice--Ice Station Grendel. At first, it all seems dead; but then they realize that there is indeed life...but it's not human...

Enter Admiral Viktor Petkov, commander of the Russian Northern Fleet. Petkov's father oversaw Grendel's research facility...and Petkov is determined to restore his father's legacy, even if it means throwing the world into a new ice age...

Matt Pike is a Fish and Game officer, former Green Beret, and divorced from Inuit sheriff Jennifer Aratuk. The couple find themselves in the middle of events, thanks to a mysterious reporter who still has a few secrets up his proverbial sleeve.

Along with a whole slew of characters, they are about to discover the secrets of Ice Station Grendel, and are about to experience the most horrifying days of their lives. Because in a covert battle between the Russian and American governments, the enemy isn't always clear, and those closest to you may in fact be your worst enemies.

James Rollins has written some outstanding novels. His first, "Subterranean," remains one of my favorite books of all time. "Ice Station" comes close to topping that list, too. With all the adventure of his previous four books, plus some amazing character development (even the evil Petkov is drawn as a human figure; I felt myself feeling sorry for the poor guy several times), "Ice Hunt" is a bonafide thrilling ride. It fits the two big "U's" of great suspense novels: unpredictable and unforgettable.

Summary: A literary roller coaster ride
Review: It's books like "Ice Hunt" that makes you stop and be thankful there are people who have dedicated their lives to creating the printed word. This book is AMAZING. Oh, sure, it's a check-your-brains-at-the-door kind of premise, but once you buy into it (and that's easy enough to do here!), you will be on the edge of your seat, turning pages quicker than ice melts in a BBQ. I love Rollins' style: he sets up one cliffhanger situation and suspends the tension over at least 3 or 4 other cliffhangers at the same time: he visits each of them in time, but not until you're ready to scream out, "I CAN'T STAND THE TENSION ANYMORE!" It's Indiana Jones in extreme. Read this book. You'll certainly become a fan of Mr. Rollins' writing, as I have.
